Receivers for ISU Game
I read where Kramer said having Ricky Gatewood back this week will be important as it allows us to stretch the field vertically. Last week at the game Cardiac and I were talking how we never tried to go downfield and all the passes were sideline routes. Maybe this is why we didn't try? My opinion though, unless Gatewood has regained his ability to catch the ball, we are far better off with Sullivan on the field. He had a very nice game and needs to play. I am also anxious to see how Roosevelt comes back from his best game of the year. He made some good catches but I was more impressed with how he ran after the catch. With a bigger involvement from the running backs, the receivers could have a great day.

Re: Receivers for ISU Game
Yeah, Gatewood has been nicked up with his ankle I think and hasn't been at full speed this year yet. Hopefully the week off will help him. I know this, he was a stud over the middle in the spring scrimmages and really caught a lot of balls over the middle. I'm thinking ISU is gonna try and stop the run as well and we will bust open some big plays. Are receivers are starting to take form now and overall they WILL BE better than the overall unit last year. This team is getting better EVERY week. We need this game early so that we can get off on a good foot in BSC play.WYCAT wrote:I read where Kramer said having Ricky Gatewood back this week will be important as it allows us to stretch the field vertically. One thing I'm sure happy about now is that at least we don't have to travel to Portland State this year as they currently look to be very strong this year. ISU is a very important road game for us and ONE WE MUST HAVE.

As much as I've been down on the receivers this year - I have to agree with everyone in Bobcat Nation that they made a huge improvement last weekend. I was impressed with Chaz on the field, and also with his committment to getting better before, during and after practices. That type of leadership will pay off, making everyone better.

I hven't seen the CSU tape yet, but from what you all say, I am excited to see the improvement of the wr's and more receptions out of the te's.
Two thoughts though:
1) I have not been impressed at all with Guinns reactions after he drops a ball. There have been a few drops when he appears to be p!ssed at Lulay. Lulay has struggled, but would look like a hero if some of his balls were caught.
2) Leave Gatewood on the pine and let Sullivan play. Who cares if you can run a 4.2 if you can't catch. Maybe we should line him up at RB a few times a game.
3) Is Kellen Alley going to see the field?
ok, 3 thoughts

I agree completely about Sullivan playing. He did a lot of things right against CSU and Gatewood has earned some time on the bench. Maybe with his speed they should move to CB - all they have to do is run with the receiver and knock the ball down, he should be perfect at that. Never saw Alley other than warmups. I have been in support of him getting some time but it doesn't look to be an option.

From what I remember from Saturday, he didn't complain once at the bad throws. Of course there weren't near as many, and he also did catch two touchdown passes. But I imagine it would be extremely frustrating for him, I remember a good number of passes from the first two games went directly at his feet while he was running. Those are near impossible balls to catch when you are running full speed away from the ball, or even just perpendicular to it.94VegasCat wrote:
