Big Sky ref in the I-AA title game?!

Post by BelgradeBobcat » Fri Dec 16, 2005 9:38 pm

I don't know about the rest of the crew, but the referee is definitely a Big Sky guy-in fact I think it's the guy who refed the infamous playclock game against Portland State two seasons ago. I haven't seen any major bungles so far, but I haven't been watching the whole thing.

Don't they generally keep officiating crews together, and use the same crew for a game?

It was a Big Sky crew all the way- announced during the pre-game. Must be national exposure, because it looked like they called a fair game.

the Big Sky ref who worked the NC is a great guy and one of the better refs for the BSC. They don't just randomly pick refs for the NC game, and in this case they based picking him on his rating for the last 5 years, I believe. I assume that is how they've done it in the past, taking ratings over a 5 year period. Not sure why they didn't take a crew that had worked together, but this year they didn't.
Anyway the crew he works with is also one of the top crews in the BSC, which may not be saying much, but it might be the one crew that is actually pretty good.
The crew I've noticed him working with also, along with him, ref'ed the GSU/TxST game, and did a good job, and weren't flag happy.
We need more like him ref'ing this conference.
Anyway, just my opinion.

Have to agree. Just too bad that there seems to be only 1 crew when there are multiple BSC games on any given weekend. Fullerton thrives on the fact that they had BSC officials, but the rest of them are certainly not the cream of the crop.
