I think the argument is that Durham didn't even offer a kid who is seeing playing time as a true freshman for a Pac-10 team.wbtfg wrote:Your arguement that McGillis is a star in the making is that he scored 7 points against Texas-Pan American? At least that is what I am interpreting from the McGillis postings. There is NO EXCUSE for Durham (allegedly) giving the kid the brush-off.

I am saying that if this kid is SO good, why did he get brushed off by both Durham AND Krysto? I think these two have been around the game long enough to evaluate talent.PapaG wrote:I think the argument is that Durham didn't even offer a kid who is seeing playing time as a true freshman for a Pac-10 team.wbtfg wrote:Your arguement that McGillis is a star in the making is that he scored 7 points against Texas-Pan American? I think a lot of the reason why McGillis was offered (VERY LATE) by OSU is because of the internet hype. Someone posted his name all over the internet, and did a great job of marketing him.
If it weren't for the message boards, I think most of us would be saying Jack who?

SO, you are telling me that a PAC-10 coach who was Lute Olson's Head Assistant at Arizona for 5 years before coming to OSU and seemingly turning the program around gave Jack McGillis a Full-Ride $120,000+ scholarship based on "Internet Hype".I am saying that if this kid is SO good, why did he get brushed off by both Durham AND Krysto? I think these two have been around the game long enough to evaluate talent.

What difference does any of this make, as far as Bobcat athletics? He's a kid neither Durham nor Krysko wanted to put up with. Krysko is doing a pretty good job molding his kids into his image and--well--Mick's kids look like he did...not understanding what the next sequence would be or how to close close games. Maybe by the time conference gets here, we'll see a change in focus the end of games in Bozo--but I'm not going to hold my breath--and I wish McGillis well in Oregon. Geezzzz.....after reading some of the posts in this and other threads, what would everybody say if Morrison were in Bozo instead of Spokane?

Some of you same posters that are bashinig mick for not signing McGillis are now bashing him for playing Dissly too much. A lot of the same things were said about Dissly as McGillis. Probably more hype. Mick signed him and all I hear is how he is not any better, should not be playing. lets give McGillis a chance to Show he deserves to go to the Pac 10 and let Oregon State show that they are a better team than MSU and UM.

Pretend this kid keeps developing (I know, he's in Montana AA and there's only 13 teams) and keeps getting AAU exposure, will everybody be on him because he chooses to go to a higher recognized school than MSU or dUMb? What will everybody say about the coaches in Bozo or Mazzola if they don't get him?

Cat Grad,
The difference is Brock is already getting ink in national publications and has already attended a game at Gonzaga, where he met Coach Few, and received a letter of interest from Lute Olson a couple of weeks ago... FOUR GAMES INTO HIS FRESHMAN YEAR.
McGillis wasn't on anyone's radar until MAYBE late in his Jr year. He had a solid Sr season and I have no doubt he developed a world class highlight tape (with some help, no doubt); does anyone know or believe that anyone from OSU actually saw any of Jack's games LIVE? Doubtful.
IMO, Osweiler will have his pick of DOZENS of BIG TIME, TOP 25-caliber teams. Unless Brock develops a very strong bond with one of our coaches or schools, neither the Cats nor the Griz have a snowball's chance in hell of signing him. McG, on the other hand, had to put on one of the worlds biggest/best marketing campaigns to land in Corvallis.
We're not talking apples & apples here.
Again, I hope no one takes my comments as attacks on Jack; I don't know the kid at all and I wish him well at whatever he does.

I was just watching the Zags down St. Joes and an interesting point was mentioned by the ESPN play-by-play guy.
Adam Morrison, who many are now calling the best college player in America, was offered exactly ONE scholarship.
So how do you explain WSU, UW, UO, OSU, etc. etc. NOT seeing in Morrison a kid worth a scholarship?
The same way you explain Mick & Larry not offering McGillis; sometimes, stuff just happens.
BTW, with Raivio outside, Batista inside, and Morrison everywhere, I really think the Zags have a legitimate shot at making the Final Four this season.

They could be a 2 and done team just as well as they could make it to the final four. They are overrated, look at some of the teams that have come to the Kennel and put up a fight St. Joes and EWU??? The zags are 8th in the country, they soundly handle both of those teams. Morrison has an off night and they are done with and BTW Reddick is better than AM any day of the weekEl_Gato wrote:I was just watching the Zags down St. Joes and an interesting point was mentioned by the ESPN play-by-play guy.

Morrison made it clear that he would be going to Gonzaga. He was well-known at Mead and played in the state 4A championship game, losing to Oregon Duck Aaron Brooks' team from Seattle but scoring a ton a points in the process.El_Gato wrote:I was just watching the Zags down St. Joes and an interesting point was mentioned by the ESPN play-by-play guy.

Morrison wasn't under the radar. He decided not to waste everyone's time and was going to Gonzaga from the get-go.

Then I guess the guys at ESPN should do a little deeper homework, eh?
BTW, Swilly, I'm a longtime Duke fan (and the REAL Coach K), and I hate to diss any Devil, but I think Morrison brings more to the table than JJ.
Don't get me wrong; I love Reddick and the way he's expanded his game over the years, but I think Morrison is a more well-rounded player.
Duke vs the Zags for the title would be pretty damn sweet!

Considering that the analyst kept calling the school Gon-ZOG-a and the city SPOKE-AINE, I think that your guess about the ESPN guys is spot-on!El_Gato wrote:Then I guess the guys at ESPN should do a little deeper homework, eh?

Yeah, you'd think after this many years of being a legit top 25 team, these "professionals" would at least know how to pronounce the school's name correctly.
I can't believe guys getting paid to watch/analyze games can't even take the time to verify names & pronunciations before game-time...

THANK YOU El Gato! Why must everyone insist on giving any good coach with a last name that begins with K the Nickname Coach K. The Griz did it with Kennedy for crying out loud, and imo that guy was undeserving. What really erks me is that Krystovkiak (I butchered that, but give me a break) already has a legit nickname KRYSCO. You could have sooooo much fun with this. Imagine putting him on a sign with a can of Crisco? It would be really funny. All kinds of bad pun potential, such as, "Crisco, the missing ingrediant for Grizzly Cookin!" We should be banking on this, but sadly we insist on using Coach K. The UM football experience has a special unique vibe that is lacking in basketball. I realize this comes from a dormant program, but we had 7,200 fans the other night and while people wanted to get into it, they didn't know how. Come on people, get creative!El_Gato wrote:Then I guess the guys at ESPN should do a little deeper homework, eh?

Just a little perspective from the OSU message boards (for what it's worth)...
