One thing jumped out to me Helenacat, in closing you mentioned the influence factor. I think if you get the right guy in there, the amount of years behind you will not matter so much, Barack Obama for example. So Conrad in influencial, but does he vote for policies you agree with? Thats my big problem with him, he's also in and out of the media every 3 - 4 years for making ill advised comments about or to a certian "group" of people. Max isn't my ideal candidate either, but he tends to vote more along the lines of how I want him to. I'd want Conrad out of office because of his political views for the most part, and I personally wouldn't be concerned about the next senators lack of influence affecting the way he represents the state.

Obama has influence in the media, not so much in the Senate. Although probably more than the typical freshman senator.

The devil made me do it the first time... the second time I done it on my own.

Burns is an ace when it comes to bringing federal cash to MT ... especially MSU. That's what I view as a strong positive (outside of the fact that I know half of his staff). His foot in mouth (and the fact that they may not be isolated incidents) comments really do bother me on a personal and state pride level, so I'm perpetually conflicted.

I definitely don't want him to suffer from this Abramoff stuff unless he actually did something wrong, however. That's the case for any politician in any situation. Being persecuted by the press absent facts is always dangerous.
