Injuries

I can't understand this...Mo seemed fine after the game in Pocatello, however he did catch a helmet under the chin and split it wide open. He didn't say anything about a concussion...but he's that kind of kid, just a real positive person with a great personality. His parents were really looking forward to homecoming. They drive up from Vacaville(sp) Ca. for the games. The only game they missed was the CSU game where he had his best day.

I still cannot believe the amount of injuries occurring this year. I have never seen this many injuries to starters, on any level of football. I'm glad we have a talented group, and enough depth that I think we can still make a run at the playoffs.
It just makes me wonder, where would we be if we had all of our starters this year still playing? 3-1 would be my guess.
But the young guys continue to develop and we should have a pretty damn solid team here come early November.

I don't think the Cal Poly loss had anything to do with injuries...we just got flat out beat that day.
CelticCat: Before you say that you have never seen this many injuries before, remember that because of injuries, in the '02 Cat/Griz game the Griz had to use nothing but 4th string players and walk-ons plucked off the UM flag football intramural championship team the week before the game....or so I've been told.

For those of you that may know more about this area, have any of you considered the reason for so many injuries, is that the strength coach may not be preparing our young men for these games? Its obvious to me only, that the injuries like acl's, mcl's, are in direct corelation to strengthening these very critical muscles surounding the knee as well as the shoulders. Just my two cents.

From my limited experience in this area, there is no doubt in my mind that the right kind of strength training can help prevent things like hamstring pulls.
However, I don't believe that there is any exercise in the world that will prevent an ACL or MCL tear, or a concussion (we seem to have a lot of these this year), or a broken bone.
I think we're just having a run of bad luck when it comes to injuries. Obviously this is testing the depth of the program, and so far we are doing ok (not great). All we can do is hope and pray that the injury bug has left us.
Just my two cents

Yep, just bad luck .. just have a string of them this year. I also think it could be from how many 'open' positions we had on the team coming in this fall could be a result of it too. Lots of players busting their butts (oh no, hope Nascar doesn't fine me) to gain a starting position. In the end, this will all be a blessing come next year for our team though I think. Our biggest concern right now is our thin CB's corp. We need to keep them in tact. The other positions are slowly rounding into form.HelenaCat95 wrote:From my limited experience in this area, there is no doubt in my mind that the right kind of strength training can help prevent things like hamstring pulls.

One other point on this area. I had one of the injured tell me that they barely warm-up, then its basically off to the races. Plus, he said that in the off season, or when he showed up here he was benching and pushing leg weights at much heavier weights. I don't know, I think I for one, are trying to make sense of all of this injury proneness that is currently overtaking our team. No wonder the cost to keep insurance on certain sports is significantly rising.
