JC b-ball matchup

Post by WolfPtCat » Tue Jan 31, 2006 7:39 pm

I am going to try and catch the game Saturday between Sheridan College and Miles Community College. I believe that they have both been ranked in the top 25 nationally at different times this year. There is a kid named Chase (Baltimore, MD) playing for Sheridan, that (I believe) has verballed to the grizzlies. I heard on the radio that he scored 39 in a came a couple of weeks ago. Sheridan lost last week to end a 19 game winning streak.

Does anybody know anything about MCC? Are there any potential Bobcats that I should keep an eye out for? It should be a heck of a game.

Freshman Trevor Morris from Missoula is having a pretty nice year for a freshman I believe he is second in scoring. His Dad played for both the Cats AND Griz.

Hey, can you let us know how Gordon "Gus" Chase looks? :) I'm pretty sure (If Sheridan College's site is correct) that he's #5 The Griz will have him on their roster next year, and a lot of us are very anxious for any news/stats/info about him. We've been getting stat updates over on Egriz, and it sounds like he's having a hell of a year and putting up Kamarr Davis type numbers for Sheridan (Kamarr Davis also played for Sheridan). Thanks for any info you report back :)

OK Ponycat, I don't have as much class as you.
....it sounds like he's having a hell of a year and putting up Kamarr Davis type numbers for Sheridan ....
Lets just hope those are "basketball" numbers and not "class room" numbers

I am sorry  I could not resist, he left himself to open for that one!

From his bio: "Chase had a 3.60 GPA last year and plans to major in business."

So, I don't think you'll have to worry about him having grade trouble, and missing a game against the cats :) Of course, you cat fans may wish he did miss the game if he can continue to perform like KD on the court :)

Kamarr averaged 15.25 Points, 5.5 Rebounds, and shot 51.5% from the field against the cats :P Pretty good numbers if ya ask me. He scored 16 points in 2 of the games, 23 in one, and 6 in the final game.

MCC vs. Sheridan

Post by WolfPtCat » Tue Feb 07, 2006 4:36 pm

Sorry for not posting anything yet, I'll bring my program to work tomorrow. I made quite a few notes. It was a very entertaining game (Miles Community College vs. Sheridan College) with 2 very good teams. I have seen Porterville College (Porterville, CA) play a couple of times. These two teams could have easily competed with them. Porterville sent 2 or 3 players to MSU a few years ago.

I made quite a few notes on the Montana kids that saw action from both teams as well. Several of them did very well, others...not so well.

Stay tuned....full recap tomorrow.

MCC @ Sheridan College

Preface: All observations are made from watching teams and players for exactly ONE game. Which pretty much qualifies me as an expert, right?

Went into the game thinking I would be rooting for MCC. However, after the starting lineups it became apparent that MCC started 4 kids from Louisiana and 1 from Texas. Meanwhile Sheridan started 2 Billings products. After the first substitutions MCC brought in 2 MT kids so I went back to rooting for them.

Game Recap
It was a close contest between two talented JC squads. Sheridan ended up pulling away at the end (something like 92-85)

Nobody really cares about the teams so here are some updates on players of possible interest:

MILES COMMUNITY COLLEGE:

Possible DI talent:

Jerry Moody, 6'7", soph, Boosier City LA- He had a real good all around game. He bodied up well against Gus Chase (headed to UM). Moody was 3 inches taller than Chase and did a good job denying him the ball. Moody was also active in the full court presses and the half court zone. He was very quick-footed, lanky, antisipative, and athletic. Hit several mid-range J's. Also had good low post moves.

Jordan Pratt, 6'6", fresh, Lafayette LA- Very springy. He is a very marginal DI prospect, but may mature into a serious one. He played good defense and slashed to the basket well.

Montana Kids:

Aaron Sutton, 6'0", frosh, Libby MT- Sutton was the backup point to a soph from TX. He did a very good job running the offense and pressuring the ball on defense. Good job running the break. Very few turnovers. Will be a good starting point next year. Has MT NAIA talent for sure. Possibly DII

Nate Barstad, 6'7",frosh, Glasgow MT- Barstad was the 6th man. Saw a lot of time in the first half. He looks a little clumbsy-still growing into his frame. He could not handle Chase down low. Chase would back him down at will. Barstad played few minutes in the 2nd half because of this. Barstad did play well when he didn't have to guard the more physical Chase. Good Hustle. MT or ND NAIA talent.

Trevor Morris, 6'3", frosh, Missoula MT- Morris is a shooter. He did not pass very often. He was definitely looking to get his own shot off, not create shots for others. He is athletic, but streaky. He played solid defense in spurts, not consistently. Had a lot of minutes in both halves. MT or ND NAIA talent. If he improves his shot pct, possibly MSU-B. Prototypical MSU-B mindset... "must shoot..passing and defense are overrated"

Aaron Skogen, 6'1",frosh, Ronan MT-DNP
Jacob Bausch, 6'6", frosh, Livingson MT-DNP
Chase Keith, 6'2", frosh, Miles City MT-DNP
Jake Ellis, 6'9", ???,Livingston MT-Redshirt

SHERIDAN COLLEGE

(apparently) DI Talent:
Gordon "Gus" Chase, 6'4", Baltimore MD, commited to the University of Montana- Chase gets himself in great rebounding position, offensively and defensively. He has a real knack for reading the shot. He is not very quick off of his feet, however. At one point three consecutive offensive boards were made right over him, as he appeared unable to get off the ground. He backed down Barstad at will. He had a lot more trouble against a stronger Moody. He passed well out of any double teams that collapsed on him. (However, I don't think he will command a double team in the Big Sky) He missed several free throws. I can see how he scored 39 earlier this year. He may have had 50 if he would've been guarded by Barstad all night. He is a real nice player. He is only 6'4", not 6'5", not 6'3", probably around 245. Similar style of play to Charles Barkley, without the unstoppable determination and freakish talent.

Possible DI Talent:

Michael Taylor, 6'9", Baltimore MD- Solid post player. Complimented Chase well. Played good interior defense and solid full court D. No other notes.

Montana Kids:

Chase Sukut, 6'1", soph, Billings MT- Starting point guard. Had a real nice game. Ran the offense well. Created his own shot. Rebounded bigger than his 6'1" frame. Played smothering full court defense. Didn't shoot many 3's. NAIA/DII talent for sure. Very Marginal DI talent.

James Bullock, 6'5", frosh, Billings MT-Very active. Had several offensive boards. Slashed to the basket well. Had a good game, athletic defender. Didn't shoot many jump shots-didn't have to-got to the rim. NAIA talent already, may develop into something more

Wyoming Kid:

Jake Schmidt, 6'9", soph, Themopolis, WY- Slow big man who would rather shoot the three. Side note: Runner-up for Homecoming King.

Ellis should be a frosh, as he and Bausch graduated at the same time. I know both of them, Ellis better (funny kid). Bausch (pronounced Bowsh) is very athletic, this much I know for certain. Ellis was 6'7" in HS and still couldn't dunk worth sh!t. LOL Hopefully his game has improved some. I could definalty see Bausch going to Carrol, as that is where his older sister(s) played either BB or VB there (I dont remember which).

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

Apparently I was a little off on my evaluation of Miles Comm. College's Trever Morris (Missoula Helgate). He just signed to join the University of Idaho Vandals next fall.

http://www.billingsgazette.net/articles ... morris.txt

If he works hard and improves his shot pct and defense he could turn himself into a viable DI player. There is always a place on any team for a pure shooter. Good Luck, Mr. Morris. Lord knows Idaho needs you.
