Hunting with the VP
You've just got to have a certain amount of common sense before you go hunting. I never understand all these hunting accidents. Don't pull the damn trigger until you're 100% sure what you're shooting at. Sure, bird hunting requires quick shooting, usually in a different direction than you're initially facing, but the first thing on your mind should not be where the birds are, but where your companions are.
I think if I was ever hunting with some buddies and got shot, I shoot back I'd be so damn pissed.

Cheney Alert
The government plans to establish a color-coded system to warn of future veep attacks
Updated: 2:32 p.m. ET Feb. 13, 2006
Feb. 13, 2006 - Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff announced today that his department would immediately implement a "Cheney Alert" system to warn Americans if an attack by the vice president is imminent.
The Department of Homeland Security has been under pressure to respond to the widespread panic and anxiety that have gripped the nation since Cheney shot and wounded a fellow quail hunter while on a hunting trip in Texas over the weekend.
Across the country, people have holed up in their homes and hoarded food and water, fearing another senseless attack by the gun-toting vice president.
"What we have learned, the hard way, is that Dick Cheney can attack without warning," Chertoff said. "It is our hope that with this Cheney Alert system we will be able to give the American people some warning before he strikes again."
The alert system, with five color-coded levels indicating the likelihood of another brutal pellet attack by the Vice President, was derided by some in Congress such as Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del), who likened it to "closing the barn door after the horses have escaped."
"The fact is, the White House already had ample warning that Dick Cheney was going to strike, and they sat on their hands and did nothing," Biden said, referring to a Presidential Daily Brief dated February 4 with the title, "Dick Cheney Determined to Strike in U.S."
Elsewhere, former Education Secretary William Bennett said that he was "outraged" that an NHL gambling ring has been in operation for five years and he was never invited to participate in it.

But "Cheney's got a gun," is funny, and that headline alone suggests that it is being shown as something not scandalous, but rather something much less serious.Hello Kitty wrote:I saw this headline on TV last night
Cheney's got a gun.
I wish I were joking. Also the media is commonly referring to it as "the shooting" when they should be saying 'the accident".
And it was both a "shooting" and an "accident." Either description is completely appropriate. I don't think many Americans are being deceived into thinking that Cheney opened up fire on a bunch of kids in a McDonalds ... everybody knows that it was a stupid accident.

But I wonder how many viewers are aware of the pop culture, Aerosmith reference made.
Also I have yet to hear them say accident. The shooting...
And the media is having a fit about how the important news was delivered as well. They wanted Cheney to do it himself because just having a "civilian" do it was inappropriate.
I see it this was. It was a very unfortunate accident and it was reported so drop it. I watched a simulation yesterday about what may have happened. Before this is over I think most Americans will know more about quail hunting than they ever wanted to.
