Wow, a few zings on the smack board, and GWB is trying to chase us off.
I guess throwing insults at our friends and family brings out the worst in us in your eyes.
Sorry for trying to be funny at the expense of the content of your posts ripping on volunteers. Next time, I'll take it to the off-smack board.
I abstain on the voting. I'd hate to skew the results.
So if you win the vote, does that mean that Peace Corp volunteers really are all lazy trust fund babies who can't get real jobs? Is that the issue that hangs in the balance whose honor must be defended?
Wait a minute ... what is that? Yep, I've got another unexplainable urge ... I got the spirit wellin' up inside me, and it wants to set up a poll on the smack board to show those other smack board posters that they're not funny and that nobody likes them. Can I hear an amen!

This is simply a question of posters’ preferences. I have no certain feelings on the matter. I simply have read some recent posts and thought I would pose the question. I am not trying to chase anyone off, look at this as constructive criticism. This is an opportunity to see how your peers feel about you. You can let this opportunity pass you by, or you could embrace the finds and strive to become a better person.Bay Area Cat wrote:Wow, a few zings on the smack board, and GWB is trying to chase us off.I guess throwing insults at our friends and family brings out the worst in us in your eyes.

So W, does this mean we're not friends anymore?
Dang...I wish my office was on a higher floor; if I jump out my window, I might actually survive. Guess I'll have to go to the roof...

P.S. BTW, for those of you who are still around to see the results of the historic election...I did vote to keep us here, just for the record. I didn't think about skewing the results, so however it turns out, they are officially skewed in our favor by one vote...

Excellent idea, GWB. As I'm sure you've looked deep down into your soul after the constructive criticism you received in the previous thread, and are probably at least a 20% better person already, right?
This is a good exercise, and I eagerly await my opportunity to learn and grow as a person.
I just hope sig decides to be my friend and teach me more. That might put me over the top.

I can't believe this is even a poll. On a consistent basis I've found BAC to be the most rational poster on this board. If you make asinine stereotypes of the Peace Corps, or any other group for that matter, you've got to expect to be called on it. I for one am glad BAC and Grizlaw have the guts to give their honest opinions, and call BS when they see it.
Regardless of how the vote of this "Poll" comes out, I will be disappointed if either BAC or Grizlaw in any way let it affect how they post in the future.

Yeah...I wouldn't lose a whole lot of sleep over that, if I were you. I sincerely do try to keep the personal attacks to a minimum in my posts. But I always have spoken my mind, and I always will -- losing a high-school popularity contest on the internet certainly wouldn't change that.BR GRIZ wrote:Regardless of how the vote of this "Poll" comes out, I will be disappointed if either BAC or Grizlaw in any way let it affect how they post in the future.
Happy Valentine's day, kids. I'm out...

P.S. Oh and Pony -- kudos on catching the Tombstone reference. I was hoping someone would.

I'm a little curious about where you're bringing me into this Brad. I simply brought up the issue of condescension directed towards GL. I don't recall saying that I think Peace Corps volunteers were trust fund groupies who have nothing better to do. From what I'm gathering, you're insinuating that I am of that frame of thought.Bay Area Cat wrote:Excellent idea, GWB. I've never had a problem with you but if you're trying in some esoteric fashion to throw a jab my way, go ahead.
And since I should play along with your "cerebral"-natured satire, what would you like to learn from me?
Can I get lessons on being a condescending prick like you're attempting to be? Can I get a subscription to the SF Gate and slate.com so I can be as intellectually superior as you? Would you teach me how to critique everyone elses' political/social/personal views without ever offering up a true opinion of my own?
I think you have a lot more to teach me than I can teach you don't ya think? I eagerly wait such a grand, worldly learning experience from you Brad!

Good lord, sig. You jumped in with me on the previous thread (criticizing my posts on that thread, if I recall), and this was part of the fun I was having with that smartass thread. I finished the last one by asking if you would be my friend after you informed me that I was the only person who had been condescending in the entire thread (which was a funny statement in itself), and that carried on over here almost immediately afterwards (and before I saw your final reply on the other thread).
Go to bed early tonight and get some sleep (as you mentioned earlier today that you were feeling stressed out and tired from work), and when you wake up, maybe you'll have something better to worry about than my daily reading list (which I highly recommend, by the way, along with Reason.com and a few local MT and CA newspapers) ... and maybe you won't have such a hair trigger on your "prick" usage.
And I never offer my own opinion? That's a very interesting assertion. Maybe you can start a poll to see if anyone will agree with that statement?

Hair trigger? I've been reading this site and posting on it not too long after its inception. Gee, I wonder if I've ran across any of your 3000+ posts.....Bay Area Cat wrote:Good lord, sig. Make no mistakes, you're well read and you seem to be pretty astute in many things. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I got a very quick impression that your sarcasm took a little turn towards the opposite. You have a wonderful knack of disguising it with your posting style though.
Since you're so quick to point out my posts towards you in that PC thread, I guess it's safe to say that I shouldn't have even participated in the thread. It would have avoided a post directed towards you.
Thanks for the reading advice. I read much of what you already tout. I just don't feel the need to chime in about everything my eyes run across.
You missed something in the course of the postings. The condescending term I applied wasn't just to you, it was to GL as well. So what, someone thinks PC volunteers are trust fund babies who can't or won't find a real job. Someone cites an example that counters that assertion while someone else backs it up. Differing opinions.......oh the horror!
I'm done with this banter with you. PM me if you have anything else to comment on......

Truthfully, I don't think you're a prick. Now perhaps whimsically gifted describes you a little better. Unfortunately I crossed my wires and suggested you were the former.Bay Area Cat wrote:Nope, that should do it. Apologies for suggesting you have a hair trigger -- you must just sincerely believe that I'm a prick. Fair enough.
No need to apologize. In my opinion, the only thing you're sincere about is that you sincerely think that I think you're a prick. Today, yes. As a whole, no I don't believe you are.
