WBB ISU for 1st Place

Post by CatBot » Sat Feb 13, 2021 4:01 pm

And just like that, next week could put the ladies all alone in 1st place. UI puts on 2nd half clinic outscoring the Bengals 43-16 and in the process, shows us the formula for beating this team. Yes, it will be incredibly physical, and we need to figure out how to keep our bugs out of foul trouble.

I see and Cat team that is peaking and a Bengal teams that looks vulnerable. Let's get it done!

I want to thank whoever mentioned after the last game about the Bobcat play by play along with Payton Ferris giving color and analysis. So today I said no thanks to the ewe playby and listened to MSU and Payton. What a treat to hear the call and her comments. It was not easy at all to get and keep it synced but definitely worth it.
Obviously glad that we won but also glad that coach Binford is most likely not all that pleased with todays performance. I think she'll be letting the team know that just playing good enough won't be anywhere near good enough this coming week, and I hope this young team responds and plays like their hair is on fire. Something I really like about this young team is how hard they play and how well they seem to take to coaching, and at the same time don't seem to pay any attention to conventional thought that they're too young to be this good.

The thing that's so exciting about this team is I don't feel like they're even close to playing to their potential. There is so much for them to clean up-even when they are blowing other teams out.

We did not score in the final 4:32 of the game. Subs or not, that won’t get it done against the Idaho schools. I don’t know if it’s complacency or random variation, but over the last two weeks a few players seem to have regressed, one significantly. I hope they get together quickly.

I'm excited and anxious about playing ISU. I think MSU has the talent and depth to beat the Bengals. But I've watched Sobelewski coached teams for the last 10 years. Putting it nicely, they are physical up to and sometimes crossing the line.

My concern is that this young team could get intimidated by the Bengals' physicality. There will be plenty of bruises afterward. Binford has been through these games many times and knows how to beat them. Can the Cats endure the pain and play their game? If so, I think they win. Can't wait for Thursday.

We have had the luxury of large leads the last 3 weeks. Hard to maintain high level sometimes when that happens. Whether complacency or that we are very into the bench. With that said in a few games that second unit have a big boost that extended the lead. I just don't see today as a big deal. Up 26 don't score, bench gives up some threes. Not many teams would play 13. EWU played 9. So too 8 on bench at end

I listened to Peyton the other day (didn't today) and I was surprised at how tough she was on the players letting down at times.
I have heard Coach Bin say the same things after a win.

I noticed during one timeout she was really giving the squad hell about something. This is all the sign of great coaching.
Given the talented depth this team has there was absolutely NO EXCUSE for allowing EWU to go on about a 17-0 run to end the
game today. This team will need to play four strong quarters next week. If they do the Lady Cats can beat anyone in the Big Sky.

@Joe Bobcat What did you use for your video and audio feeds? The PlutoTV feed has been way ahead of the TuneIn radio feed. I need to find a radio feed that’s ahead of PlutoTV’s so that I can sync them. I don’t know any way to pause the PlutoTV feed, so I need radio that’s ahead. The PlutoTV/TuneIn combo has worked for years but not this year. Thanks!

Unfortunately the outcome of the game may depend on which officiating crew shows up. At EWU in game #1 they did not call much of anything, but to both teams’ credit it did not get out of hand. In game #2 they started out pretty much calling everything. Very different. Some crews don’t seem to understand that there are rules against shoving, headlocks, blatant grabbing, and running headlong into a defender with a shoulder down. Some crews are intimidated by Sobolewski. And a few crews understand that basketball does have rules, officiate by the rules, call flagrant fouls as flagrant fouls, and are not intimidated. I can dream. Maybe we could get a PAC-12 crew to zigzag over to Pocatello.

Great point on crew intimidation. Sobelewski is constantly running his mouth working the refs.

I was flipping over to the ISU / UI game yesterday during timeouts in the Cat game. At one point, the ref gathered the players on the court and was very direct and vocal with his instructions. According to Idaho coach Jon Newlee after the game, the ref warned against the chippyness and talk from the players. After that, UI really took over the game. It would be great to get that crew.

I am curious as to who is the player that has significantly regressed in the last 2 weeks? I have watched the last four games in their entirety and can't pinpoint one player who has significantly underperformed, especially considering Binford rotates 11-12 players. The Eastern announcer did use a good analogy to hockey when he referred to some of our mass substitutions as "line changes"

Keep in mind how ridiculously young we are when setting expectations. For a very freshman oriented team we are having a fantastic year. Let's go get those Bengals on Thursday.

It was all done by ignorance and lots of dumb luck.
msubobcats.com/sports/womens-basketball/schedule
I went to msubobcat.com then sports womens basketball and clicked on schedule. Then I scrolled down to the game and clicked on listen. At first the audio was ahead of video so I paused the audio and after a few trial and errors got it synced. I soon discovered that I could also advance the audio if it was behind the video. Things almost always got out of sync coming out of time outs quarter breaks and half time so it took lots of adjusting through out the whole game. It was worth every bit of effort to hear Payton and the play by play that wasn’t the pathetic EWU guy.
Hopefully that explains it and hopefully someone else can offer additional info to make it easier and better. Like I said, ignorance and lots of dumb luck were all I was working with.

That was a good try!! Like mentioned earlier they were so out of sync with the radio being about a minute ahead (reference your comment Bobcat4ever on need to find a radio feed ahead of Pluto) .....I just couldn’t stay with it. Then my wife starts yelling at me that she was getting annoyed and just wanted to watch the game so I go back to the wonderful EWU announcer and quit messing with it.

Bottom line, I didn’t get to try pausing the radio and letting it catch up. But I will experiment with that later.

I don’t know how Ferris got the opportunity to do the radio gig......and I don’t know if they will go back to the other dude when back at home but I sure liked her commentary while listening. Yep she was tough on the kids at times...but what I enjoyed more was the subtle nuances of what they were doing and how we were countering or needed to do to counter......then I started watching those things more closely.

Hahaha my wife would've been yelling at me too but she wasn't watching with me. One thing I did to help was I had full screen video on one monitor while on another I had the audio where I could pause and advance while always being able to watch the game. I watch on computer monitor rather than the 4 times bigger TV screen.

Well, that makes three of us that must have the same wives! I will say my wife has either come to understand my need to improve things, or has simply given up over the years. 😂

Well, she is basically filling Jason Alvine’s position of Director of Basketball Operations. He is best known for doing the primary audio but he also did their travel scheduling, etc. She’s doing a lot of the same things, plus now doing color, and with a different title befitting her skills.

I think we’re starting to act a little spoiled. Our WBB program is best in class and getting better! I know it’s a fan’s nature to want to be better, but this team is exceeding expectations with one senior. Proud of the team and their efforts. It’s only going to get better! Quit whining!

They have won each of their last 8 conference games by double-digits. Has any other MSU team ever done that? It's extraordinary!
