Yes, unfortunately what you are saying is real. Money is power and it controls everything. When you have social media giants that have HUGE influence in shaping peoples' thoughts, and behaviors in the world (Especially the young)... and obviously the people that own and control these media platforms have their own opinions about certain things... OF COURSE that is going to lead to censorship and suppression of certain thoughts and ideas. It's just the way it is. I know this has been brought up before, but if anyone hasn't watched "The Social Dilemma" on Netflix, you absolutely have to watch that.Cataholic wrote: ↑Thu Aug 26, 2021 10:18 amInteresting posts above and great feedback. I am sure this site takes a lot of time to administer and I can appreciate KMAX’s decision. The issues forum seemed pretty popular, but it did regularly cross the line of being civil to each other. I have engaged in some of that behavior, but human nature is to punch back when someone punches you. The section could have definitely benefitted from an active moderator to put people in the penalty box, regardless of who is right or wrong. Maybe the “issues” section is better gone without having an active neutral moderator.
Despite the negative side of “issues”, I have learned a lot from the discussions. It has been interesting to hear a wide range of opinions and thoughts. Seemed like a cross section of our society in general.
I am wading into an issue with this statement, but it does seem to be a point of societal concern when we can’t have a conversation without (KMAX) being threatened by advertisers. It has me concerned about the future. Who is making decisions on what is acceptable and what is not? Is it our government working through Google, GoDaddy, etc? I am not pointing fingers at KMAX, but at the people telling KMAX to cease these discussions in the forum or suffer the consequences.
So … which moderator locked the Discussing the Issues forum?

Holy cow, Kevin explanation seemed to turn this to a political discussion. The whole purpose of the board was sports, now people are complaining when their little rant space is interrupted even though the rants are detrimental to the board. I have a solution for you. Start a rant board, call it blue and yellow blood. I think kmax would even give you guys a space for a link to it.

Re: So … which moderator locked the Discussing the Issues forum?
That board was ugly. I truly enjoyed reading and debating with people who have different views than I do. However there were some vocal posters on there who could not write two sentences without hurling an insult and it got very tiresome, and from the sounds of it were warned repeatedly about this but could not abide. I made the decision to stop posting and reading in there because it was just too uncivil and we are all Bobcat fans in the end. It was spiraling down the drain and honestly deserved to have the plug pulled.
Maybe we can come up with a solution to have it exist on the site in some way, maybe a private board that requires a separate password, I don't know.

The solution to all of this is to pay for this board ourselves. This board isn't free to run and maintain.catatac wrote: ↑Thu Aug 26, 2021 10:38 amYes, unfortunately what you are saying is real. I agree. Having Democrats like @grizgirl and @TomCat88 bragging about using the n-word and posting it repeatedly would hurt business. Too bad you allowed it to stay on there for a month. I took screen shots a archived those posts in case either of them tried to doxx my kids.kmax wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 8:11 pmI don’t give a sh!t if you want to bitch and complain about cancel culture. Play the victim all you want, we were providing you a forum and it went sideways after repeated asks to change things. I didn’t even read any of the drivel spewed on that board regardless of the side of the aisle. The stuff on that board started to threaten the future of this board with the crap so it ended. Simple as that.
As for keeping the football (and other) boards free from this I will do my best. I just ask if thread start to go off the rails report it as I don’t have time to read every thread.

Re: So … which moderator locked the Discussing the Issues forum?
I like this take. Sometimes difficult conversations happen and this was a place for them. Biden being hammered every day for his failures became too much so his supporters seems to go off the deep end a bit. I don’t blame @kmax for protecting his site, either. A bit cowardly, but understandable.Rich K wrote: ↑Thu Aug 26, 2021 4:07 amI think that the Discussing the Issues forum was fantastic and will not be easy to replace. The idea that there are all kinds of other places on the internet to take such conversations is becoming less true by the day. There was some fantastic conversations and some hurt feelings from all sides. I'm ok with people getting their feelings hurt, as a matter of fact, I consider that a sign of good healthy debate. These are interesting times in history and some of us want to get off the sidelines, even if it's just as a "keyboard warrior." What I saw was a vibrant and active series of conversations. Speech that doesn't enrage others doesn't need to be protected. Good lord, it's just words on your screen. Scroll past if you can't take some heated criticism, or better yet, object directly. I think the decision to terminate that forum was short sighted.
I have been a user that has gotten into bitter spats with other users and had my feelings hurt and enraged others. So be it. That's how the process plays itself out. If others are so lazy or disinterested that they choose not to participate it's a sad state to give those lethargic users the on/off switch for intense political conversations. Politics ain't bean bag.
More than one time in Bobcat Nation's glorious history it has been suggested that another moderator would be helpful and there would be a plethora of volunteers that would be willing to help. As far as I know, Kevin declined all such assistance, for whatever reasons. That's fine and I won't pretend that he doesn't own this sandbox and he can do whatever he wants with it. I don't know if he even tested anybody temporarily. He could have pulled the power from any moderator that he had promoted if it didn't meet his standards.
Go ahead and fire away at me if I'm misguided. I can take it. My skin has been thickened from my challenges and criticisms rather than any personal virtue.
Randy and Brad are totally checked out of here as far as I can tell.

If the “whole purpose of this board” was sports, then it would have shut down the Discussing the Issues forum when it became an anti-Trump board. Point out Biden’s incompetency, and that’s just too much.allcat wrote: ↑Thu Aug 26, 2021 2:59 pmHoly cow, Kevin explanation seemed to turn this to a political discussion. Let’s not pretend this is some altruistic venture. I pointed out how easy it would be to spend $1000 on Troy Andersen wearing a BN sweatshirt to class. Perhaps something that is what Kevin is negotiating and had to get rid of the politics here.

Re: So … which moderator locked the Discussing the Issues forum?
Kmax has stayed extremely apolitical as far as I’ve seen on this board. Calling his actions cowardly is an unwarranted character shot at him. With your last two posts, it seems as if you have a personal issue with him. If you have a problem with him locking the board, go start a new one. If you have a problem with how he runs a message board, go start a new one. If you want to wildly speculate on BN sweatshirts and who wears them, go start a new board. The internet isn’t full yet, as far as I’m aware.PapaG wrote: ↑Thu Aug 26, 2021 6:54 pmIf the “whole purpose of this board” was sports, then it would have shut down the Discussing the Issues forum when it became an anti-Trump board. Doesn’t warrant a response. But it does warrant a warning PapaG, get over it or leave. And that includes the whining you are going to want to do about me saying this. I’m over it. Move on.

The entire Discussing the Issues forum has been distilled into a single thread! So far it's only one side of the aisle though. Come on lefties, join the party! I'm counting on you to be sore winners.

Kevin is upset. Oh well.
Ban me after over 18 years here if that’s how you feel because Joe is a failure. Whatever, even though I’ve posted a lot of good content over the years including inside information.
This is a disaster in Afghanistan and pretending it isn’t is a dumb position. You shut down that board, and some of us know why. Good luck on the Bobcat content after shutting down your most active board.
@grizgirl amd @TomCat88 posting the n-word repeatedly is on you, Kevin. You know Randy and Brad are done.

Kevin, if you want to ban me for posting what Biden and Psaki say, go for it.
It’s been a long, good ride here and I met Randy and Brad through it in real life.

You might want to take some time away from this board and really think about why you joined BN in the first place, and if it means as much to you as it to does to hundreds or thousands of other Cat fans like myself. @kmax I’m in Bozeman next Thursday and will buy this site from you for $2000 and you get a residual percentage of ad money we can discuss once I see what it is.
Is this really worth the aggravation on a site you don’t want to even maintain anymore as your fellow founders have bounced?
