I haven't heard anything about a punch.

He was down on the ground and someone was in his face and he threw a punch. I'm not sure if the referees even saw it, but I guess if the conference looks at films, they will. It wasn't a real "nasty" punch like the one last week, it was sort of "get out of my face!", but I also don't know what constitutes a disqualifying offense. It could be bad news!

Just out of curiosity, why are you bringing it up? If the refs didn't notice it, and nobody else seemed to notice it, why potentially bring it to the attention of people who would like to see Gatewood suspended (NAU supporters who might press the issue with the conference, for instance?) by posting it here?

I'm not accusing you of being a turncoat or anything... just wondering why we would highlight something negative that nobody else seems to know or care about.

I don't see it being anymore negative than any of the other crap here today. This really did happen, as I watched from our seats. Also, I don't think the Big Sky Conference refs give two squirts about what we say here. Remember, there is no affilation with MSU athletics or otherwise??

I think that you are missing my point. I'm not saying that the BSC will confuse us with MSU or anything like that. I'm just saying (somewhat bashfully) that maybe if we don't talk about something like this in a public forum (that a lot of people read), maybe nobody in power will be inclined to take notice of it on film, thus reducing the chances of anything official coming of it?

Odds are, nothing posted on here will ever make a difference with anything in the "real world," but it would be a shame if it did in a negative way.

I believe Dean Alexander was discussing it on the TV broadcast. I know it was public knowledge during the game.

Oh, so it wasn't obscure as I had thought. I got the wrong impression from the previous posts in the thread -- it seemed like we might have been able to get away with one if all stood around with stoic looks on our faces and said "What punch?"

So... I was wrong.

I didn't see the punch, but I have seen 2-3 from other teams on our players (some to the helmet) and some missing entirely. I would think a punch to helmet/shoulder pad would be less than a cheap shot to someone's family jewels. Maybe I'm wrong here, but I saw 2-3 this year where an oppossing player semi punched/head slapped one of our players. I think he will be okay unless it was blatant HARD HEAD pop or something.
