The whole list was included on that link. You can find out any of the other rankings from there as well. It's a very helpful reference for finding out any team's attendance ranking.

That link does work. I see the GRIZ are number 1 on that list with an average of 23,283 fans per game. msu has averaged 12,257 over 5 games. That's a great year for the cats! You should be very satisfied with your attendance.

It's getting better each successive year, so I think everybody is pretty happy with that fact.

I'm also happy that Griz fans who need the extra juice still have something to grab hold of to pick themselves up. If it wasn't for attendance numbers (and the ability to type MSU in lower case while screaming Griz in all caps), we'd only hear from the funny ones on this site!

It's a lot more just attendance numbers. Talk about juice! It's having the premier program in Montana, it's having national respect of the I-AA community, it's a #4 ranking the nation, and it’s knowing that every one in the BSC compares their program to ours and is trying to emulate our success, it’s having a coach who is getting his feet under him. I could go on, but you can see there are lots juice we can grab hold of.

That's what's funny -- respect means that you don't have to run around telling everyone how good you (meaning you vicariously through your favorite football team) are.

Besides, as of right now, you are the second best team in Montana. Until they knock off MSU, that's just the way it works. If UM beats MSU this fall, then the in-state rankings will be switched. That's what makes it so interesting when you work so hard to talk the Griz up. We've all heard it before a million times, but it's funny to see, still.

I am sure that you are a good person, though, regardless of how good or bad your favorite football team is. Stand tall, my friend, and congrats on the attendance thing -- your fellow fans of the same favorite football team are doing a good job of going to the games of your favorite football team when they are playing at home.

BAC, I'm gonna have to take offense to something you have said.

That is bringing up one single game from last season. If one looks at this season's accomplishments, Montana does have the more impressive resume. If, instead, one looks at the entirety of last season, one would have argue about who had the better season. Your logic is a bit like saying that K-State is better than Oklahoma, since K-State won the last matchup.
That being said, the Cats will have their chance in November to finish off a very impressive season, if they take care of business with NAU, EWU, and Sac.

If somebody is going to come on an MSU fans board and tell us that their team is the best in the state after losing to MSU for the past two seasons, I think it is more than fair to point out that on the field, head to head results are the best measure of who is the current in-state champion, is it not?

Or, rather, should we adopt a BCS system for in-state bragging rights, as you seem to be advocating? That's not very I-AA-centric of you!

You guys can feel free to pat yourselves on the back over here all you want, though. It's kind of cute, in a way. I don't really understand the need for people to do so, but it happens.

I have to side with gecko on this one. UM is the higher ranked team and currently has more Ws and less Ls, and they are "co-champs" with MSU these last 2 years even though they've lost to the Cats.

I will end it with that. This is an arguement that I dont want to dive into right now. November 20th will end this discussion.

No where in my post did I say how great the GRIZ (or I guess myself living vicariously through the GRIZ??????) (I am pretty sure I don’t do this.) (Just off the phone with my wife, she confirmed it, I don’t do this) I just was responding to your post the GRIZ having one and only one thing to hang on to - attendance. We have many positive attributes with in our program, just as the cats do.

Thanks for the encouragement. I always stand tall, something my father instilled in me. Hopefully you are doing the same. Stand tall brother.

Returning to the topic at hand RE: attendance. I was surprised at the 11K announced attendance. I was guessing a little less. The tailgating was way down.

The crowd was very late arriving, with people filtering in throughout the first half. I think a lot people left early, even before halftime, because of the weather. It was one of those days that no matter how many layers you have on you were going to get chilled to the bone. A lot people with the kids day tickets didn't stick it out I suspect.

But even with that I suspect we still use the "tickets sold" method of attendance, as opposed to the butts in the seats method. In fact almost everybody goes by tickets sold, which is becoming a big problem for schools who need to make new D-1A requirements. Below is a link to Nevada's attendance woes. It's pretty interesting:

Actually, on the student side .. their was more people that came in after halftime than in the first half. It was starting to fill up.

I'm rather doubtful there were 11,000 there Saturday. There were more empty than full seats around me, and the student area looked half full. It might be that the rest were in the parking lot at any given time, or attended only part of the game. We'll have to wait for the "audited attendance". The students made a lot of noise, though.

I think it's interesting that people think that the 6-1 Griz are SIGNIFICANTLY better than the 5-2 Cats.

Let's examine:

The Cats lost by 13 to the #3(GPI - best 1AA poll) Cal Poly Mustangs & Division 1 CSU. The Cat wins (except Adams High School) were by slim/close margins where 1 or 2 plays could mean an L instead of a W.

The Griz were ANNIHILATED by Sam Houston, #7 GPI. The Griz wins (except Weber High School) were by slim/close margins where 1 or 2 plays could mean an L instead of a W.

The point? I'd say if the Cats & Griz played each other tomorrow, you'd be hard pressed to HONESTLY say which team was a SIGNIFICANT favorite. Play in Missoula - give the nod to the Griz; play in Bozeman - I'd pick the Cats.

BUT, the next 2 weeks will really tell us what we need to know about the 2 teams. If the Griz are really #4, they should destroy PSU and handle NAU fairly easily at home (especially considering Sauers couldn't beat the Griz Golf team). The Cats MUST win the next 2 if they are really as good as their W-L record indicates; NAU is the tough one, having not won there since Lincoln freed the slaves, and Sad Sac State SHOULD be a gimme.

Time will tell...

GO CATS!!!!!!!!!!

No, bearbac (and I really wish kmax would let me explain your handle to everyone...),

I've made the point before that some teams just have other team's #'s. For some reason, Sauer's teams seem to play their WORST football all season during first halves vs the Griz. They dig insurmountable holes and spend every 2nd half playing catch-up.

I KNOW that the Cats football team could take the Griz Golf team...

I can see it now...

1:30 to play, Griz golf leads 20-19, Cats take over at their own 20...

Lulay marches the MSU offense crisply down the field...

Cochrane lines up for a 35 yard FG with :04 left on the clock...

IT'S GOOD!!! CARDIAC CATS WIN AGAIN!!!!

Exactly, sorry El Gato. I was discussed and gone over when BearBac first signed up, no need for the retread or the further personal attacks.

Sorry for being slow on the trigger -- I went back and deleted the confused one's posts... just because they were dumb. It's my one guilty pleasure.
