Damon Gros Ventre
Is he being recruited by MSU? Is he a D1 basketball player?

Re: Damon Gros Ventre
I watched him last year and he could definitely play at tech, carroll or somewhere like that for sure. I don't think he is a D1 player. He is 6'5" and that makes a big difference in high school when you can play inside and out. He just doesn't have that flash I don't think to be D1, unless he has changed his game incredibly since last year. I think its great what he is doing and his legacy as taking over the scoring title from Elvis is incredible. Definitely a baller, but not in my mind going to play for the cats or the griz.

I would love it if Sprinkle gave him a chance and see if he develops. I think it would be good for the program and good for Montana. I realize scholarships are precious but we take chances all the time with players. Some work out and some don't.GrizgradCatFan wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 7:43 amI watched him last year and he could definitely play at tech, carroll or somewhere like that for sure. I believe the class B is in Bozeman this year. Should be a fun tourney.gtapp wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 9:33 amI would love it if Sprinkle gave him a chance and see if he develops. Totally agree. We take flyers on Montana kids all the time. Some work, some move on. With no disrespect intended, if kids like Bellach and Ash are good enough to get a crack at D1 ball, Gros Ventre is definitely good enough for an opportunity.gtapp wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 9:33 amI would love it if Sprinkle gave him a chance and see if he develops. It'll be interesting to see if MSU and UM show any interest.

When's the last time MSU had a kid from a res on the team? I know the Griz did like 10 or so years ago.

Re: Damon Gros Ventre
I haven’t seen Gros Ventre play and 71 points is a remarkable feat, but D1 ball has become a field of extreme athletic ability. Rollie Worster (Utah) and Tre Tinkle (Oregon State) are two examples of Montana kids that check that box. I think Germer has that physical ability but find it interesting that he was redshirted this year.ilovethecats wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 10:50 amTotally agree. Does Gros Ventre have above level athleticism?

Re: Damon Gros Ventre
I can't speak to that. Have never seen him in person, only on sports highlights and youtube videos. I'm just pointing to the fact that if you look at MSU and UM over the last 10 years, both have had Montana kids on their roster with what I perceived to be marginal D1 talent. It's why I used the examples I did. Not to slight these kids, but just to show it's not uncommon for both universities to take a flyer on these type of Montana players. If they work out, great. If they don't, they move on to NAIA like Bellach did and he's thriving.Cataholic wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 11:06 amI haven’t seen Gros Ventre play and 71 points is a remarkable feat, but D1 ball has become a field of extreme athletic ability. 71 is 71 no matter how you look at it. Believe he had another game where he scored 60 or something. Kids gotta be averaging about 40ppg at this point. By all accounts he's a good kid who is a gym rat and has busted his butt off. I have to assume that at least puts him on the radar of the Cats but who knows?

I'd encourage you to go on NFHS and watch the game. Specifically the last 6 minutes.

Hey, I think Danny should give Damon Gros Ventre a chance, assuming Damon is interested. It would be a positive move by the Bobcats and by the
University as a whole.
University as a whole.

Ash is a walk on. Many kids won't take that offer. Gros Ventre is athletic but maybe not elite athletic. My concern will be defensive intensity needed. DC Stewart on Lodge Grass plays tough D. Combine those two I think you have a D1 player.ilovethecats wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 10:50 amTotally agree. We take flyers on Montana kids all the time. Some work, some move on. Yes didn't get down to defensive end often. Also 35 point game and shooting 3's and played to end.

I see journey emerson from Lame Deer broke Gros Ventre’s single game record by dropping 82 tonight.

Re: Damon Gros Ventre
Are you serious? Wow....that didn't last long. That's more points in a 32 minute game than Kobe scored in a 48 minute game.
