To answer the question about post season bids. The Big Sky Hasn't received 2 bids to the NCAA tournament in my lifetime. The NIT must invite the regular season champion if they lose their conference tournament. The other two tournaments have invited Big Sky teams in the past but I don't know what their criteria is.

I've said it before but dang I wish there was a "FCS" type of play in basketball. I know there are always examples of the little guys achieving a huge upset in the NCAAs, but when it comes to the Big Sky, it sure seems to be a stretch. Winning the Big Sky would be a huge deal for MSU, but then.......

I remember being at the game in Long Beach CA, Watching the 16th and lowest seed Bobcats playing Lou Carnesecca"s number one seed St Johns. That game was winnable if only Walters could have made a few layups. Once in a while you get those games, but few and far between.

Kral Ferch tomahawk slam from the free throw line is an still the best MSU Bobcat NCAA tournament highlight IMO.

The State of Montana is Bobcat country.
missoula....still just 20 miles from Montana.

Didn’t that dunk come over the top of Walter Berry and make the cover of SI.

Not sure of either.

Yep. Didn't make the cover but made an article.

I was thinking the dunkee was Shelton Jones, and here it is.
St. John's also had 6-8 Shelton Jones, who was from Brooklyn. So it was hoops at its most fundamental when, in the heat of a spirited second-half run by the crowd's darling, Montana State, Ferch found himself in the middle of a fast break with only Jones to beat.

"He said in postgame interviews, he thought I was going to lay it in," Ferch said. "My size . . . white kid from Montana . . ."

What Jones couldn't know was Ferch had a 42-inch vertical jump. He won a state high-jump championship at 6 feet 10 inches and could touch 11-9.. Suddenly, as 10,000 jaws dropped, Ferch took the ball in a palm, soared massively over Jones and dunked. Brooklyn, meet Livingston.

I believe Shelton Jones was also the Defensive Player of the year in college basketball.

Thanks for the correction.

Great memories!!! Use to love watching the Ferch bros on the court at the same time. They played like they were on on the driveway court shaking and baking.

Wow on the leaping ability. I personally don't want to brag, but I have almost 2 inch leap.
