Big Sky Men's Basketball Tonight

Post by catatac » Thu Feb 10, 2022 10:19 pm

No idea why there are zero posts on here about the huge night tonight but maybe I'm missing something? Cats with a huge win, Weber loses, and it looks like the Griz just went down to NAU in Missoula. Awesome night for the CATS!!!!!

Great time to be a BOBCAT!

The brick looked like a blast tonight! Team was feeding off the energy no doubt. Missed some of the second half to watch the WBB game but looks like free throws need to get cleaned up. 1st place in the conference yall!

Wow, every result went MSU's way tonight with the win combined with losses by Weber and UM. The Cats are, dare we say it, alone in 1st place heading into the NAU game on Saturday. Too bad the ladies couldn't hang on against SUU to take the win streak to 19.

We hung on. Poor free throw shooting which has been a strength. Couple turnovers by Belo late followed by poor defense that led to 5 quick points or I think we win going away. Battle is a star. Playing better defense and getting more time

PSU played very aggressively and made the game close. Cats bent but never broke. Balanced scoring and key stops sealed the win. Come watch, you get your money's worth.

While registering my vehicles the assessor stated "I have had both Cat and Griz students and alums work for me and the Griz end up working under the direction of the Cats."

This team is so much fun to watch. Looked like it was a good crowd as well!

Battle....... you can see why he was a top 100 recruit. Dude is crazy athletic, and doesn’t seem to miss.

Go cats!!!

Maybe everybody was at the game?! Pretty good crowd tonight.

RaeQuan Battle can hit that 15 foot jumper over anybody. If we start running plays for him he could be a 20 ppg scorer (maybe next season). I think he's our x-factor this season. The guy that could put us over the top.

PSU is really scrappy. We'd be headed for what looks like a layup, mostly with Belo, and suddenly the ball was stripped. They also totally bottled up Bishop-who has been on a tear lately. So credit to them. They've been playing really well lately. With a few more made free throws it doesn't come down to the last possession.

A good humbling win.

In the seven games since the long Covid layoff between Jan. 9 and 20, Battle is shooting 29-50 (58%) and 9-23 (39%) on 3-pointers. If he keeps that kind of production up off the bench, MSU will be tough to beat. Also need to give credit to Nick Gazelas as another major bench contributor during the streak, as he of course started off the season in a massive slump but is now shooting 50% on 3's in the same stretch of games. Good shooting = lots of wins!

When I looked around at the size of the crowd tonight I couldn't help but feel a bit of anger at the way the Griz game was scheduled while students were not in session plus it was the day after the FCS game in Frisco.

If we had the griz coming to town now it would be a hard sellout in my opinion. But never mind that. NAU became the first team this year to whip the griz in Missoula and Saturday at noon NAU will be here at the Brick. Need another big loud crowd on hand to keep this streak going.

Cats win streak is 7th best current streak in the nation. However, their 7 game road win streak is 3rd best in the nation (after Gonzaga and Davidson - Nice Company). I know - don't jinx it. But Cats are playing better on the road than at home for reasons that are not clear! Margin of victory in last 5 road games is 15 while their MOV in last 5 home games is 8 points. Go figure.

Keep in mind that PSU was without their best big man JeanMarie. They could be real trouble at full strength if they continue to play with the intensity they showed last night.

I was going to say the same thing. He has been really solid and is the perfect spark plug off the bench. Not sure if the Big Sky does a 6th man award, but he would have to be in contention.

To be fair, the Cats were missing easy layups and the ref's were allowing PSU to Hack whomever was under the basket with impunity.

I was at the game, so didn’t post here. The Cats were really sloppy but pulled out the win. Need to pack the Brick on Saturday.

Can you imagine if the conference winner got to host the conference playoffs like in the old days? That would kick start Bobcat basketball for years to come.

That's what I saw as well....waaaay too many silly turnovers, but this team does a nice job of overcoming some of that.

In his post-game radio interview, Danny mentioned that Jubrile Belo did not have a great game but that he was also playing even though he was really sick. Danny also said both Abdul Mohamed and especially Raequan Battle played well.
