Without looking at the numbers, I feel like the second half of the season Nick has slowly starting taking a lot of Pattersons minutes as the year has progressed. He’s certainly earned it, he has a much more diverse skill set than I realized starting this year

I think it's RaeQuan Battle who has been eating into Patterson's minutes more than Gazelas. But wow, did Nick show off a side of his game yesterday that we don't get to see too often. He'll certainly be a major contributor next season. I've been wondering how much of a drop-off MSU will have next year losing their three "Covid Year" seniors, but seeing them take down UNC without Belo all game or Bishop in the second half is highly encouraging.BStinsMSU wrote: ↑Sun Mar 06, 2022 10:36 amWithout looking at the numbers, I feel like the second half of the season Nick has slowly starting taking a lot of Pattersons minutes as the year has progressed. Is it just me or does the ref in the foreground on the Cotton replay smile with the whistle in his mouth after the shot goes in and then mouths ‘Wow’?

Re: Senior Day vs UNC
Gazelas was mostly playing Bishop's minutes yesterday. Tynes got the rest, but he's so limited offensively, and we needed points from somewhere. Tynes is a heck of a defensive player and that sequence where he ripped the ball away from a driving guard and then took it in for a contested layup was a brilliant play. I just loved Gazelas' confidence to go right at them-he really did exactly what Bishop does. UNC certainly didn't expect that. That'll be one more thing opponents will now have to think about now that it's on film. Gazelas still needs to shoot it from out a whole lot better. He made a couple yesterday but he bricked a lot of nice looks-Patterson as well. We might be the least 3 pointer dependent team in the league-which is a good thing at tournament time, but we still need a few more to fall.

He definitely smiles but I can't really see if he says anything. I've been looking for a longer replay of the final play as I'm pretty sure Coach Sprinkle was celebrating so much that Leon Costello had to sprint onto the court and grab him to go shake hands with the UNC staff. I'll have to get back on ESPN+ to watch the full sequence again.

I noticed that ref too! To be a ref you have to love the game as well and I’m sure that ref was just as happy to be apart of that moment.MSU01 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 06, 2022 12:17 pmHe definitely smiles but I can't really see if he says anything.
