Lady Cats Vball coach
Okay, I'm not trying to start up a ruckus on this topic as our Vball team you can tell is very well coached. However, has anyone noticed that its pretty much the assistant coach that does all the work for them in warmups/talks to them during timeouts etc. The head coach just sits on the end of the bench and does nothing? Its definately an assistant coach run team.
Maybe this works? I don't know. I just really noticed it last week as the head coach was not even out on the court until like 30 seconds before the game and didn't even huddle up/talk in the timeouts? Anyone know what that is all about?

I have wondered that myself
I think the head coach is an amazing recruiter and teacher and so she gets the talent in and teaches in practice, but I believe the assistant who some say should have gotten the head job is a better in game strategist etc. So it seems to be a team run by two people not one. That is just my take from what I have heard, I don't have much to back that up with.

Okay, you guys made your (very good) point -- it's easy to post untrue stuff about someone on here, and it's bad umm-kay?
But now you have at least one moderator worried that he will start receiving nasty emails from people related to the volleyball team who don't appreciate one of their own being used as a foil in a lesson to show someone why they shouldn't talk from their arses about other people in their posts on here.
Soooo... to clear the air, let's stress that NOBODY is actually suggesting that the MSU volleyball coach really has a drinking problem, and that everything on this thread suggesting that was done so with tongue firmly in cheek.
And even though I totally understand what you guys are doing and why, please keep these tough love lessons on the smack board where I am less likely to see them. That way, I will be less likely to worry about them.

jag,
to put it as simply as I can, you are an ass.
Bay, please leave this post because I really feel that jag needs to yank his head out and realize that Bobby Hauck does not walk on water and, like it or not, does not quite grasp the position he's in at all times.
The difference between some Griz that I've encountered and MOST Cats that I know is that we, for some reason, seem far more likely to hold our team/players/coaches accountable, even when it's negative, than do our Griz counterparts.
Simply read jag, bronco, jah, never, etc... and you'll NEVER see a negative word or disagreement with ANYTHING to do with the almighty Griz. Talk about people seeing the world through Griz-colored glasses...
Meat, how I wish more Griz fans were like you! (but don't get the big-head)

Wow, thanks!
I'll bet if you and Jag met, you'd get along just fine. I think I told you, I've met him and he's a good guy. It's just easy to get someone worked up on these message boards.

First off, good job to the Bobcat Nation folks for putting this site together. Although we read the chat room from time-to-time to gauge what's happening in Bobcat land, it's not a place for us to express our opinions.
However, there are times when we can help clarify some items. One being the volleyball coaching comments.
For those fans who attend the matches, you'll notice that if the opponent calls a timeout, it is assistant head coach Jerry Wagner taking the huddle. The point is that Coach Wagner is the defensive coach, and at the timeout would set the defense, because the other team is sputtering.
Coach Malauulu takes the huddle when MSU calls a timeout. She is the offensive coach, and takes over when the Bobcats are having a hard time scoring.
Coach Malauulu has a philosophy that all preparation takes place during the week. During the matches, Coach M makes the offensive adjustments, while Coach Wagner and Coach Mimick handle the Bobcat defense.
We're fortunate at MSU to have an outstanding volleyball coaching staff. Rest assured coach Malauulu is in charge, but respects the opinions of two excellent assistant coaches.
As for the other comment, it doesn't deserve a reply.
If anyone ever needs any clarification on an issue please email me at tschulz@msubobcats.com. I cannot guarantee that I can reply to everything.

Thanks for the reply on this! I knew there was probably a reason. I don't hit a lot of volleyball games and it just seemed out of the ordinary/different to me, but some coaches have different philosophies so I was just wondering. Despite all the praise for Coach Wagner (greatly deserved) it seems that he has been dismissed and his contract will not be renewed. Comments anyone?MSU Sports Info wrote:For those fans who attend the matches, you'll notice that if the opponent calls a timeout, it is assistant head coach Jerry Wagner taking the huddle. Wow.....I'm a big fan of Coach Wagner....I'd definitely be interested in the story behind the situation, although with everything that has gone on with MSU coaches in the past few years, I'm afraid to think what the reasoning was.
If he is in fact leaving, I wish him all the best, and thank him for all of the hard work that he has given to MSU over the years.

ladies vb coach
I too am a big fan of coach wagner. In response to the person wondering why he will not be back...your right you do not want to know. Also, coach wagner did all the recruiting not the head coach. MSU has lost a very valuble person and I sure hope the vb team will play for the head coach as much as they played for coach wagner. Hopefully coach mimek can replace some of what will be missing with coach wagner not there. the head coach has her hands full and I am not sure she is up to the task. I sure would love to chat with the AD about this. I think they will have a good team again this year I hope this change in coaching will not distract the team too much.

Wagner seems like a really nice guy, but I don't know who does what within the staff. Has another coach been hired? Also, when was the decision made?
I think Miya actually led a slightly better team last season, but one can only speculate why; it seemed they played with more confidence. The talent has been there. Dave Gant is still around, so I'm sure the program won't be neglected. At MSU, this is truly a revenue sport.

She fired J. Wagner because she felt threatened by him. In her opinion, she felt the program would never truly be hers as long as Jerry was around!
So much for loyalty!!! Jerrry recruited Miya to play at Oregon State and this is how she repays him!!
Jerry should have been the Head Coach when Gant resigned, but the Administraton wanted a Head Women's Coach, so Jerry was screwed over.
I for one will never attend another women's volleyball game as long as she is the Head Coach!! I can't support this type of a coach.

This is the part of message boards that I really can't stand. If only everybody was accountable for what they posted (if we knew everybody's real names), then we would be much better able to sort out the facts from the personal grudges. Right now, I have no idea where the truth lies.FootballFan wrote:She fired J. Wagner because she felt threatened by him. You know what though? After I posted this topic a while back I started thinking about just that very same thing. If in fact anyone on the Vball team read this board etc. and if she would feel threatened by him etc. Now I'm not saying this is the truth, but I honestly did think about that once this link was posted up here. Who knows what the real reason was, but that did go through my mind from this topic though.
