Dennison seems to have conveniently forgotten (selective memory
) that Burns made his statement in 1999, a couple of years before 9/11/2001. Using that term then certainly contributed to the world's perception that we're still "The Ugly American" and more than a little hypocritical.
Although I'm still not convinced Brian isn't riding a wave of fortunate events for Montana (still mad at myself more than my spouse for not ensuring we rolled most of our IRA and 403b money into gold in October instead of just part of it as an example and moving to the Flathead, which I feel is missing out on the greatest real estate boom to hit our state in years), but that's off topic--except for the fact that it appears we all in Montana are still just reacting to Market Forces instead of continuing to develop; therefore, 'On the television news show "60 Minutes" earlier this year, Schweitzer said coal-to-fuel projects could help free us from dependence on "the sheikhs, the dictators, the rats and the crooks around the world who are bent on destroying our way of life."
"Shiekh" is a term that usually means the head of an Arab family or Muslim official.
Schweitzer said Monday that many of the dictators and others to whom he referred are not Arabs, such as Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, leaders of Nigeria and the leaders of Kazakhstan, a country in central Asia.
"If they're not supportive of our way of life, if they're a direct threat to our children or our grandchildren having a better chance at life than we do, then I'm not supporting them," the governor said.' I wholeheartedly endorse what Brian is saying.
We're sitting on the U.S.'s secondary oil reserve on the western fringe of the Williston Basin and the gas fields around Whitewater are enormous; however, we don't have the pipeline to take any of it anywhere
Couple this with the gasification plants that could be built around our rather sizable coal fields and it appears to me Dennison is a moron that can't seem to understand that we as Montanans are again just sitting here at the mercy of the World Bank, for one.
But, what would you expect from the Billings Gazette? Where does Burns claim to be his home? Geeezzz, consider the source and be your own critic and don't follow the mob. I mean, what portion of our Energy companies exploration budget is going to Abjerdajan (sic) and Kazakhstan as another example. That pipeline to the oil terminals will wind up costing us ten times what one out of Montana will cost; by the way, wasn't it the Abjerdajan oil refinery we bombed and eliminated during WWII that actually stopped Rommel instead of Patton? But that war wasn't over oil and...oh, whatever
