Idaho just went through this exercise for different reasons and some names mentioned were a Santa Clara asst coach who was a NAIA head coach, Jim Shaw at Washington State, the Point Loma head coach, the Black Hills State head coach and the Odessa CC head coach.

Jeremy Cox associate head coach at UTEP, is a guy to keep an eye on. The dude has won everywhere he's been. He's from Wyoming and I know he would love to get back up in this area.

I suspect there will be stronger candidates than Cox or Russell in the pool of applicants.

Really bad week for Bobcat basketball all around. :(
What else happened?
I'm assuming that is referring to losing both of the guards (Beattie and Beasley) that were projected to start
for our women's team next year. Big losses with Darin White gone. Some optimistic fans think we can easily
replace those two, but there's no substitute for experience, so I'm not one of them.

I’m not one of the “optimistic fans [that] think we can easily replace [Beattie and Beasley].” I feel we need a quality D-I junior level transfer, as stated above, and another with at least 1 year remaining. Just a pair of guard-sized Claire Lundquists and Martha Kuderers, please.

Just land Louisville's Van Lith who has entered the portal. Problem solved.

3 pretty strong candidates. What would Looney's strong point be, Big Sky connections. Is he the only one with head coaching experience.

Dan Russell was the head coach at Casper College (JC) before coming to MSU as an assistant. I was bummed when he left MSU last year because to me he was an obvious replacement from within for Sprinkle when Danny inevitably moved up - glad to know he's interested in coming back if this list is accurate.

Only Looney has D-1 head coaching experience and was mentioned as a candidate in 2019 when Sprinkle was hired, but hasn't done much at Idaho State in the same timeframe that Sprinkle was at MSU...then again, it's Idaho State so maybe he gets a pass there, but I can't say I'd be too enthusiastic about hiring a Big Sky head coach with a 39-76 record at his current school including 0-7 against the Bobcats.

I mentioned earlier in the thread to look out for former South Dakota State assistants from when Costello worked there, and that would apply to Krabbenhoft from Wisconsin. Krabbenhoft would be the only known candidate to have been punched by a member of the Fab Five.

Thanks, I did see he had been at SDSU, forgot about that connection. I agree on Looney. While it is ISU they have had success in women's so it tells me it can be done he hasn't, and not really even much improvement.

I hope some more names pop up. I think I'd choose Russell and Haslam in that order, not sure the other two sound too promising.

Although Krabbenhoft was named #30 of a 40 under 40 article by ESPN in 2020:

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... basketball

A former Wisconsin forward, Krabbenhoft played professionally for a couple of seasons before returning to the Badgers as a video coordinator under Bo Ryan. He cut his teeth as an assistant coach at South Dakota State but was back in Madison under Greg Gard in 2016. Krabbenhoft is key in player development and is an active recruiter. -- Jeff Borzello

Give Sprinkle a chance to coach in a 2-4 bid league, and get ready to watch him every year in the NCAA Tournament.
Looking forward to it! If he gets there next year I'd prefer it not be with anyone named Great, Raequan, or Darius.
I’m not convinced anyone other than Battle would start at Utah State next season on a team competing for a tournament spot.

I am hoping that Halsam or they bring Dan back. I mean really we can't afford to lose Haslam as he has brought in some great players and is the euro connection. I just hope we retain the rest of the guys. I also really hope that Danny doesn't poach Ray or Great. That would piss me off.
Or Rob or Darius.
Robert Ford? I don’t think that’s a concern.

If players decide to leave MSU for Utah State, then good for them. It’s not poaching. It’s the opportunity to play at a bigger and better level. That’s fair of them to do too.
Is USU a bigger and better level. Conference wise they will get more teams into NCAA. Coaching hire doesn't even make front page of espn website. They lost to Weber.
They play in a conference that gets 2-4 bids each year, and has been getting better and better every year. The MW was the 4th highest rated conference this season. They played in the conference title game this year and are regularly at the top of the standings. So yes USU is bigger and better.
How are the conference rankings based? Other than top couple teams in MW being competitive I don't think any of them finish in top half of ACC, Big 10, Big 12, SEC, or Big East.
I see zero Big Sky teams finishing anywhere other than fighting to keep out of last place in any of those conferences as constructed last season and that includes MSU.

Great would push to start. He showed in the tourney he has that talent. He just needs more time and strength!

What about a GLeague coach? Justin Wentzel's name has been mentioned. Clay Moser has D-1 experience at Arkansas. Coby Karl's team won the GLeague championship and his father was coach of the Montana Golden Nuggets back in the day. These guys have to recruit a new roster every year and get them to play together. It seems like they are made for the portal.

I think this is an early prelimary list. I'm sure there are quite a few other names that will surface throughout the process. I remember when Vigen was hired, there were all sorts of names and rumors swirling around.
