Very cool! The NCAA championships are next week (June 7 - 10) in Austin, TX. Here's hoping Duncan can get his national championship this year (and an Olympic medal in 2024?) after coming so close last year.

#1 in the world is truly phenomenal. Unfortunately, it only lasted 48 hours. The professionals are behind (calendar-wise) the collegians as they prepare for National Championships in July and World Championships in August.
Duncan is now #9. Only one American ahead of him....3 Kenyans, 2 Moroccans, 1 Ethiopian, and 1 Italian. I'm guessing they are all professionals...as their times all came on Saturday.

So using last years times, Duncan would have ranked 18th in the world, 2nd among Americans. Rather phenomenal.WolfPtCat wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 2:02 pm#1 in the world is truly phenomenal. Thanks for the race times! If my TV schedule is correct both the semis and final will be run during ESPN2's live coverage.WolfPtCat wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 11:47 amNCAA's own website is predicting Duncan to win Steeple this weekend:

Re: #SteepleU
What is most interesting is comparing the times for the two heats to the competitors qualifying time....
https://flashresults.ncaa.com/Outdoor/2 ... _start.htm
It looks like if they all 3 run like they have been running, all three could be in the finals!!!!!

Duncan Hamilton won his heat and qualified for the finals on Friday. Unfortunately the other two MSU runners did not qualify.

Re: #SteepleU
Yeah, definitely not ideal conditions for guys used to running in Montana. I thought Duncan might have been struggling a bit as well, but then he easily passed the UW guy down the stretch to win his heat. It's tough to tell how hard they're really trying though once they know they're in the Top 5 and qualified for the Final.Montanabob wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 6:32 pmLooks like the heat was an issue for them

Times were off about 20 seconds from the pace. But they weren't pushing it.MSU01 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 7:35 pmYeah, definitely not ideal conditions for guys used to running in Montana. Re: #SteepleU
I assume this is a great thing and congrats to Duncan. That said I have no clue or knowledge of professional track and what this truly means. Regardless, always great to see former Bobcats able to continue their careers like this.
