There were several issues. That is a fact. The writing is on the wall. Beasley, Beattie, Bussey. Coach Binford got rid of the problems, but it was too late to keep certain players from coming back. We live and learn, and I guarantee Binford will be more aware in the future, and she will get ahead of the mean girl stuff before it affects the success of the team.

I know Binford did not fire her assistant coaches without a good reason.

Madison Jackson appears in social media photos from the recently completed MSU sponsored girls basketball camp along with some of the current players and some camp attendees. Has there been a change whereby she’s coming back for her 5th free “covid year” or is she just helping out for other reasons?

She lost a significant amount of playing time during her sophomore and junior years due to illness & injuries and would be quite deserving of another year on the roster if that is one of the reasons she was participating in the camp.
No change I am aware. She told us she was giving it up once she got married and she is still getting married this summer. She does have a Covid year left to play if she wants it. If she has had a change of heart I haven’t heard it but who knows?!
I hope she plays. She feisty and aggressive. We're better with Madison on the team.
Feisty and aggressive on the court is right…she gave it all when she was out there. But what I liked was when I got to see her as a young adult away from the court. She came into a room and there was a palpable increase in energy, she always had the big smile and filled the room with her positive attitude. She made my heart smile.

The kind of experience Marah is getting with the Canadian team is better than MasterCard — priceless and then some. I expect to see a much more finished player this coming season. Go, Marah! 💙 💛 😺

Marah Dykstra has some highly rated prospects teaming up with her. At least as far as prospectsnation.com is concerned [for the Class of 2024], that is:

#51 - Syla Swords (whose younger sister is supposed to be even better)
#34 - Delaney Gibb
#30 - Toby Fournier

They can only make each other better.

I need to improve that statement. Kudos to Coach Bin for building a program that can attract a player of this caliber.

Sorry if this has been noted already, but I see that Katie Bussey’s Twitter now says Katie Bussey-Mayes. Assuming this was Chris, a romance like this, while perfectly fine, may not be in the best interests of a team during the season.

Marah is playing the 3rd most minutes of the Canada team so far through their first two games, averaging 6.5 points and 6 rebounds. Canada's top two scorers play for Duke and Notre Dame so they've definitely got plenty of talent on the roster.

Coach Binford clearly sees an opportunity in recruiting Canada with two more freshmen joining the team this fall. Let's hope it pays off like the British guys did for the men's team.

I'm really starting to get excited about this WBB team. We should be able to bully people down low with Dykatra, Deden and Janssen. They going to be very good players and very experienced on the block, and if Hein starts to materialize, that's a bonus. We'll really need her next year. Limardo and Brooke Berry should be very good on the wings, and I have to believe Binford knows how to recruit guards.

This team should challenge. Mean and physical underneath is key in conference play, and this team will have it.

The down low players will certainly be a competent lot, but they don’t come across as mean, physical bullies (on the court) from what I have watched.

It’s the back court, which will be almost a complete rebuild with Phillip the only returner with any meaningful minutes played, that will be key for a good year. Anxious to see what primary position Berry will play.

I look at this upcoming season as a huge question mark! The chemistry issues last season might be gone, but who is going to step up and get the minutes in the front court is a major concern. I think the backcourt is going to be fine, but toughness isn’t guaranteed! Binford is going to need someone to handle the ball next season. Hoping some players spend time in the weight room this summer…….. we got bullied a ton last season. I think losing White is going to be good for the program. Great player, but this will hopefully a better TEAM without her dominating the offense.

This doesn't affect next year, or the next, or the next, but the 'Cats have offered super-frosh (soph this fall) Madison O'Connor out of Baker. I would compare her very favorably to Sophie Stiles.
