One of the worst things that has happened in this area in the 15 years I have lived here...
IMHO, this has nothing to do with Bobcat Athletics and everything to do with evil, rotten, terrible people. My sympathies to the Wright family, no matter what he was into, nobody deserves this...
A sad day in the Gallatin Valley today...

Oh how I knew this comment would be made by you. What ever.catamaran wrote:I just hope some of those who have rushed to his defense in the past show a little forsight on this one
This whole thing so to terribly sad I can't tell you as a person who know all of the involved. I have been close to Branden, Freak and Aaron. They are all very respectful people (at least to me and my family). I can't make any comment about the circumstances because I don't have all the info yet. But what I do have is our "wonderful Comical "- that takes such great joy in being able to slam MSU or any other player or person associated with it with such glee. I am going to love to tell you the absolute truth on Aaron Rich's part in this whole mess. He doesn't have any - NO PART!!!!!. He was in another town where he lives. He didn't even findout that his friend was dead until Saturday (when he was in another state). He actually came down here this week to talk with the police and give them all of the info that he could. Also stating that Jason was not dealing anymore (as far as he knew). Then when he got home he then heard a loud banging on the door. It was the police taking his car!!???? I just can't wait to see the egg on our great police department. Maybe they should completely look into the probablity of this person could even do what you are accusing him of (alibi and time for travel, places they were at and at what time?? etc) Man they blew this one.
So, when the paper and anyone else prints that it was his car is going to see the wonderful paper that will read "you are now being sued for defamation of charactrer." He was not even in the city. Can prove it too. I just would like to know how they came up with his name. Just becasue he was a friend of his???? Then he happenes to own an Envoy (how many of those have you seen in Bozo lately??!!!) As I have alway said - what ever the paper prints question 50 % of their report and ignor the rest cuz it is wrong. I put everything that is true and good in this world that Aaron had nothing to do with this. Now when they finally print the correction on page 23, I want everyone that makes a comment about Aaron to say they were wrong in print and put it in as an attention to Aaron Rich. He is a wonderful young man and it angers me that he can be run through the mud without having "solid" evidence. How many of those kind of tires are on the road and who said that they were made that nite? This is so stupid.
One more thing before they make somesort of nasty comment on Ja'Ron Jefferson, he left to go home on Friday and heard nothing before he left probably because he spent his last few days here in Bozeman with his friends (that would include me and my family). He is now on his way to meet up with a christian basketball team that will be playing with in Australia (if anyone cares).
About them finding the bag in Q's locker. I have been told that the cops talked with him and let him go home. They knew that it belonged to Branden. He has gone home.
I will still stand by these kids because that is what a friend does. I may not be happy with what has happened but I will not condem them to hell without all the information. Sounds like there is enough wrong here to go around.[/img]

They matched the tire tracks to Rich's envoy. I'm sorry but I will take the police's word over a message board poster. Not that I think Rich is involved, but just because he was in another town doesn't mean he had nothing to do with it.
The only correction the paper will have to print, if any, is that the car did not belong to Rich. Matching tiretracks, however, in my book is fairly "solid" evidence, as you so put it. And there is certainly a way of telling how fresh tiretracks are.
You are trying to tell me that someone elses vehicle with those exact same tires happened to peel out in the middle of Ferguson avenue within the last few days?

espn article - JW connection info in bold
BOZEMAN, Mont. -- Two former Montana State University athletes were arrested and charged with murder Thursday in the shooting death of a suspected cocaine dealer whose body was found last week at the school's agronomy farm.
Former basketball player Branden Miller and former football player John LeBrum, both 22, were arrested and charged in the death of Jason Cody Wright. Both men also are accused of kidnapping Wright and destroying evidence in his murder.
Miller was held on $1 million bail after appearing in court on a murder charge. LeBrum is expected to appear in court Friday, also on a murder charge.
Attempts to reach Miller's lawyer, deputy public defender Eric Brewer, for comment Thursday night were unsuccessful. Brewer does not have a listed home phone number.
According to documents filed by prosecutors, Miller told detectives that early last Friday he gave LeBrum a ride to a restaurant where Wright was dining. The two waited for Wright to come outside, then attacked him. Wright fell down, and Lebrum threw him into the back of Wright's sport utility vehicle and drove away.
Miller told authorities he drove off in a different direction in his own car.
Wright's body was found in a field on the university's Arthur Post Agronomy Farm last Friday. The 26-year-old man died of gunshot wounds, the Gallatin County coroner said. Investigators found several .40-caliber shell casings near his body.
Investigators searched Wright's apartment Sunday and found "pays and owes" sheets related to drug dealing, the Bozeman Daily Chronicle reported. Police said they believe Wright had been dealing cocaine.
A prosecutor's affidavit said investigators found Wright's identification and several personal items in a garbage container outside Miller's residence.
The Belgrade News reported that Miller told detectives Monday that he helped LeBrum wipe down Wright's vehicle with bleach and that they left it in Belgrade, where sheriff's deputies found it Tuesday.

i hope bearassed does not get ahold of this but i sincerly doubt it.
The affidavit says James Clark, a former assistant basketball coach at the school, alerted detectives about a locker at the school's arena containing a bag with handguns. Clark told detectives the bag had been in Miller's possession.
One of the handguns found in the locker was the same caliber as the shell casings found near Wright's body, Gallatin County Sheriff James Cashell said Thursday during a news conference.
Gallatin County Attorney Marty Lambert said the investigation is ongoing, and additional people might be charged.
Miller, from Milwaukee, started 27 of 28 games for the basketball team in 2004-05, his first year at the school. He was the team's third-leading scorer at 10.8 points a game when he became academically ineligible and was dismissed last Dec. 6.
LeBrum, from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., was a freshman football player in the fall of 2003. He redshirted during that season and was dismissed from the team on Aug. 30, 2004, for disciplinary reasons, school sports information director Bill Lamberty said.
In October 2005, LeBrum broke a man's jaw in a fight during a pickup basketball game on campus, and eventually was convicted of felony criminal endangerment.
Wright was a former American Legion baseball player and coach in Livingston and Bozeman.
The slaying is third high-profile case to rock the Big Sky Conference school's athletic department in the last three years.
In September 2005, former Montana State basketball player Frank Brown was sentenced to 90 days in jail for rape. He also was given a six-year deferred sentence and ordered to undergo treatment and register as a sexual offender.
Brown pleaded guilty to twice raping a 15-year-old girl, at least once when she was passed out after drinking with him.
In October 2004, former assistant head football coach Joe O'Brien was sentenced to four years in prison for his role in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy.
O'Brien pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, distribution of meth near a school and 24 counts of money laundering. He also was sentenced to eight years of supervised release and 500 hours of community service.

Tire track evidence CAN be solid evidence, but isn't always reliable. It would depend on if the track left shows any unique markings besides just the tread pattern. They'll at least be able to tell what brand and model of tire it is, but will have to show other unique features (non-factory divots, factory blemishes, tread depth) of the tires they claim left the track to strengthen it as evidence.
Obviously if Aaron Rich was out of town and had his vehicle in his possession, then someone is mistaken. If he was out of town, but his vehicle was in Bozeman, that would leave the possibility open. I have a hard time thinking of reasons why I'd leave my vehicle in another town, esp. when assuming that I'd need to get to work not to mention other reasons. Nevertheless this is a possibility.

I believe the police were told it was Rich's Envoy, so they may have matched his tires with the tracks and found them to be 'consistent' with one another. I doubt they have the results from doing plaster casts, photos, etc. at this point, but maybe. It could be as simple as Rich left the vehicle with somone and now it's involved, but not Rich, and he has told the police as much and they don't need to investigate that aspect any further.

Can I make a request? Can we try to discuss the situation and the details that are "public knowledge" and avoid discussing those people that may or may not be involved and their character. I really don't want to see this turn into a discussion of rumors, etc that we have heard about people who may or may not be involved with this case. Lets wait until more information is available. That way we are dragging names through the mud that don't deserve it. Right now I think it is fair to discuss the information in the news and the past of Miller and Labrum, but try to keep the others out of the discussion for now. THANKS!

I take it you're requesting this in advance of anyone doing what you're saying. I agree, but I don't see anything wrong with this thread to date.rtb wrote:Can I make a request? I think it is fair to say that the Bobcat family has never had a situation like this. The enormity of it is still dawning on me. With that, it is prudent to let the facts come out and then discuss them. I understand the need for speculation, but commenting on the possible whereabouts of people does little to clear up this grim reality. I don't think that rtb is asking for much more other than to comment on the facts as they are reported.thuss wrote:This is a discussion board!
Why shouldn't we discuss the newspapers comments? Everybody is innocent until proven guilty. We are just making discussion. People are going to draw their conclusions no matter what. let the people speak!
Everybody is upset about this. Let's all not turn on each other as well based on rumors and speculation. MSU is sure to get some criticism over the next few months; fighting with each other won't help.

I find it a little ironic that the Chronicle is getting scooped by its little brother, the Belgrade Newshttp://www.belgrade-news.com/view.php?article=4598

Obviously this doesn't make it a 100% done deal for 'current' MSU athletes and athletics, but it's now going in the right direction. This statement makes it appear as if there is no one currently associated with MSU athletics involved.
But, Cashell said, nobody now connected to the investigation, be they witnesses, suspects or otherwise, is currently involved with Montana State University or its athletics programs.

Not looking good for Rich:
According to the affidavit, an anonymous witness told detectives they saw Wright running away from a maroon GMC Envoy shortly before he was shot to death in a field two miles away (see related story).
Another witness told detectives that Aaron Rich drove a maroon GMC Envoy. Detectives ran a search and found that a relative of Aaron Rich, a former Bobcat basketball legend with more than 1,000 career points, owned a maroon 2002 GMC Envoy.
An investigation by a Montana Department of Criminal Investigation evidence technician revealed that tire tracks leading away from the murder scene in the MSU-owned field were “consistent in tread size and pattern” with “Rich’s Envoy,” the affidavit stated.
In addition, three witnesses have told investigators that Rich knew as early as Sunday that Wright had been shot, the affidavit stated. The problem? Authorities did not released Wright’s identity or the fact that he was shot to death until Monday afternoon.
“(Witness Ashley) Hartford said that on Sunday, June 25, 2006, Aaron Rich told her that Jason (Wright) had been shot,” the affidavit stated. “At the time the media had not been told that law enforcement had identified Wright as the body in the field, nor was the media told that Wright had sustained gunshot wounds.”

It's a shame that MSU gets pulled into the mud with this whole deal. None of the suspects currently have anything to do with MSU and the only reason this story is national news is because they at one point where affiliated with the University (even though they were removed). Hopefully the comment that "No current suspects/witnesses/persons of interest have any affiliation with MSU or athletics will not get lost in the shuffle.
Since Bozeman is such a small community this is a big deal for the Valley but here in Vegas it would just be another drug deal gone bad. Just goes to show that there are scumbags everywhere.
Long live the BOBCAT NATION!
