Bobby cranked up the ol coach speak heading into Davis. I know coaches always prop up their next opponents and make them look like championship contenders, but what I have been seeing and hearing is Bobby and other Griz people building up a whole bucketful of excuses. Road trip to Cali, super hot at kickoff, dreaded night game, injured Griz team, going up against a huge DL and a very talented UC Davis team, etc. This one will be fun to watch.
Listening to Hauck in a press conference is excruciating. The press tosses up soft balls and he answers them with brief, glib, uninformative statements. He also makes it very obvious that he doesn't want to be there. No energy. Rob Ash had freaking spectacular press conferences compared to Hauck. Now Choate and Vigen are must see TV. They both bring energy and a love of football with them. Both take a simple question and elaborate on it with enthusiasm. Even stupid questions (yes, there are stupid questions) are treated like gems and used to take off on insightful commentary. Hauck is the opposite. He throws cold water on the process.

I'm rooting for UM to right the ship somewhat and finish at 7-4 after losing to MSU. Then they barely squeak into the playoffs again despite not really being deserving of a spot, win their annual gifted home playoff game against some overmatched southern team, and get sent to Brookings to be demolished by SDSU (or better yet, to Bozeman to be demolished by MSU). Bobby Hauck proclaims that the return to dominance is almost complete and signs a new 3-year contract, hiring Robby Hauck as his new defensive coordinator/team statistician and "head coach in waiting" to take over when he retires in 2026 after his fifth straight loss to MSU.

I could get on board with this plan!

Could someone get cat4lyf to have a conversation with um athletic director and make this happen. I'm pretty sure he could convince them.

I dont think 7-4 gets them in, with a D2 win as one of those 7. Unless they get a high-quality win like beating the Cats or Idaho, then maybe.

I think Boobs is done. Say what you want about his coaching style or acumen but his teams always played hard. The O-line strolling off the field during a live play with the QB still running for his life tells me he's mailed it in. That he's ready to take a special teams coordinator job somewhere and give the CEO bs to someone else. His demeanor says he's done. He took one look at the team he had this year and knew it would take a massive effort to win enough games to just get to the playoffs. So if it's over i want scorched earth. I want a losing season capped off by a woodshed whooping by the Cats in Washington Bobcat Stadium in boobs final game as the gris head coach. I want a few reporters to have the balls to ask him the hard questions they've wanted to in what everyone knows is his final presser after getting his a$$ handed to him once again by MONTANA STATE UNIVERSITY.

I also think with Griz it isn't a talent issue. Maybe depth. So if they can fix whatever the toxicity is they could be whole different team by year end.
I'm not so sure. There is a podcast out there with Andrew Schmidt (Used to play for Bobby), and he absolutely annihilates the Griz team and Bobby (He wasn't hating on Bobby, in the past he's said he would run through a brick wall for Bobby as a coach), but basically just said the Griz are a terrible team, with very little talent. He compared this team to past Griz teams and said there might be 2 or 3 players on this current team that would have seen the field on some of the past Griz teams back when they were good. He said they're toast.

Worst Griz team since the one that showed up in Bozeman last November.
I was at that game, I don't recall the gris even showing up.

They kind of snuck out of the locker room door and slowly slinked over to their side of the field. It was weird.

I watched most of the Davis/um game and just came away from that entirely unimpressed with both teams.

Without Larison, Davis is just not very good.
The griz are just a little better, hence the single digit win.

McDowell makes stuff happen with his feet, but those passes are a different story.
That Oline still doesn’t look good. Middle of the pack BSC o line at best. Not horrible, but certainly not dominant. And they just don’t have elite talent anywhere on the defensive side outside of Gubner.

We’re only in the middle of the season, things can change, but based on what I’ve seen so far, Cat/griz shouldn’t be within 3 TD’s.

Injuries can happen, it’s at their house, crazy sh*t seems to happen in that game more often than not, so I’m not putting my life savings on it, but from a purely football standpoint, these two teams are on very different levels this year.

Yes not on the same level, ha. Griz have been playing better and beaten 2 ranked teams in a row on the road. Cats haven't beaten a team with a winning record (I don't see this as a big deal, but people liked to throw that at the Griz last season). Griz just shut down the top ranked runner in the conference, holding him to 41 yards, and currently leads the conference in stopping the run. If Griz can't defend against MSU much better this year than last, then the Cats will run over the Griz again. But new DC for Griz who will presumably use a different scheme. Much of the D knows the mistakes they made last year and how good the Cat running game is. And, note that the Griz clobbered the no. 3 ranked Cats the prior year.

Yup, Griz looked bad against NAU. Schmidt is probably eating Crow now, though.

Going to be fun to see how both teams play out this year. No doubt the stadium will be rocking in Missoula on November 18. Last trip to Missoula was very well orchestrated by the stadium, the fans, and the coaching staff in Missoula.
Vigen, self admittedly, was flat-footed and ill prepared for the beat down in Missoula that day. Housewright was stubborn and wouldn’t get off his game plan calling plays that took too long to develop against an all out blitzing defense.
We will all know more as both teams progress the next few weeks. Regardless of the health of both teams and their schedule Missoula is going to be worth 7 to 10 points as a home-field advantage and not the typical three.
I’ve got my tickets as usual to be in Missoula and plan on being at Reds at 8 AM as per my custom.
The only way I missed the game is if I decide to watch my hometown team play in the State football championship if they should be fortunate enough to make it.
I look forward to a spirited contest and wearing my blue and gold in a sea of maroon on November 18.

As far as Northern Arizona goes, they have enough skill to make anybody look bad on a given day. I think the way that they beat Missoula was particularly disgraceful with the general attitude on the field by the Missoula players. They seem to have corrected that issue at this point.
Not 100% sure what happened there, just a lot of rumors from my friends over the hill.

There's always new griz fans crawling out of the woodwork after they win a big game. Where were you after the NAU game?

Griz have new D coordinator. Old one retired. Will have a different scheme this year. The Cats and Vigen didn't know what to do with the UM 3-3-5 and 2021, and then changed things for 2022 and played like UM didn't even have a defense. In 2021, the Cats had 84 yards on their last drive in the last 5 minutes to get the score to 29-10. So, until then, the Cats had had 118 yards of total offense. Again, the Cats had been ranked no. 3 at the time in 2021 and went on to the national championship game; and obviously had a very good team.

Are you sticking with this view now? I thought only 1 player walked off the field too early during the play at NAU. The coaches got on him for it. His injury has improved. Some on egriz were saying Idaho was his best game of the year, or ever. He seems to have turned things around. Hauck says he likes this team, and its talent. He has also said, in prior weeks, that this year's team has not been as good as last year's team was at the same point. UM has just beaten 2 ranked teams in a row. Griz are now top 10. UM would have to go backwards not to at least get into the playoffs now.

I hope they keep winning, and keep Grizzly fans thinking they are at the same level or better than the Bobcats. The Bobcats and SDSU are the clear cut class of the FCS right now, and the gap between them and the next level of pretenders is fairly wide. This will become clear as we continue through the season and throughout the playoffs.

Great time to be a BOBCAT!
