Re: WBB recruits
I really really like these signees! Finally, a Montana weighted class of recruits. The best overall athlete in Montana high school girls sports, classification and grade, in Taylee Chirrick. Teagan Erickson, a long and athletic player with a tremendous upside after a couple of years in the program. Those two combined with Addison Harris, a top tier C-F from Washington who might be in the starting rotation sooner than later next year. Outstanding class!

Binford Signs Three Standouts to Highly Touted Recruiting Class
BOZEMAN, Mont. – Nov. 8, 2023 – Montana State women’s basketball coach Tricia Binford has signed three highly touted high school standouts to National Letters-of-Intent to join the Bobcat program for the 2024-25 season, the 19th-year mentor announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Signing with the Bobcats are Taylee Chirrick, a 5-11 guard from Roberts; Teagan Erickson, a 6-2 guard/forward from Saco; and Addison Harris, a 6-1 forward from Camas, Wash.
“This group is going to make a huge impact on both ends of the court,” Binford said. “They can all defend, they can all disrupt, and they have great length. In my 19-years at MSU this is the most athletic class we’ve signed. They are winners in the classroom and from a character standpoint. They are strong competitors. The best descriptor for this class is elite.”
Chirrick, a four-sport standout at Roberts High School, is a three-time all-state pick in basketball. She played two seasons at Billings West, before moving on to the Rockets for her junior year. Last season, she led Montana Class C averaging 31.8 points per game, the third best showing in state history. In addition, Chirrick posted 51 points in a single game, the fifth best performance in Montana history. She had her best game in the District 6-C playoffs last winter, notching 40 points and 26 rebounds against Broadus. She was the 2022 Montana Class AA Defensive Player of the Year at Billings West.
Chirrick played club ball with the Northwest Blazers Orange where she garnered 2023 Second Team Under Armor U17 honors, after being a First Team Under Armor U16 selection in 2022. Her 2022 squad won the national championship.
An outstanding athlete, she set Montana Class C records at 400- and 800-meters, as well as in the 300-meter hurdles, last spring. Chirrick earned all-state honors in track and cross country.
“We believe Taylee is the best female athlete in the state of Montana,” Binford said. “She possesses size, speed, and power and could play anywhere for us, including the point-guard position. Taylee is a tremendous scorer and playmaker. She is a fierce competitor and makes those around her better. She impacts the game in every statistical category- rebounding, getting to the foul line, steals, etc. Taylee also has great instincts for the game.”
Erickson, a three-time Montana Class C all-state selection, led Saco to a state tournament title in 2023 as the Mavericks posted a 26-0 record. Heading into her final season this winter, Saco has notched a 73-4 mark during her tenure, which included a state runner-up finish in 2021 and a third place showing in 2022. During her time in high school ball, Erickson has seen three conference championships, three district titles, and two divisional championships. She is also a three-time all-conference performer and a two-time all-defensive team honoree.
Another outstanding athlete inked by Binford, Erickson is a two-time state champion in high jump, while finishing second and third in triple jump and third and fourth in long jump, respectively at the Class C meet. She also lettered four years in volleyball. Last year, Erickson’s squad finished third at the state tournament and enters this season’s state tournament as the No. 2 seed from the East.
Erickson, who is coached by her mother Amber at Sacor was a teammate of Chirrick’s on Northern Blazers Orange during the club season.
“Teagan possesses a tremendous skill set with untapped potential,” Binford said. “She has a tremendous vertical and is an elite rebounder. Teagan can shoot and pass like a guard but can also do outstanding things at the forward position. She has a great feel for the game and a has a high IQ for basketball. Teagan is a selfless kid that will be a great teammate and off the court she is exceptional in the classroom.”
Harris, a four-year letterwinner and 4A all-state pick at Camas High School, was the 2023 Greater St. Helens League co Player of the Year, after averaging 17.2 points and 10.5 rebounds per game for the Papermakers- her second straight honor. She also garnered 2023 regional player of the year accolades. Last winter, Harris led Camas to a Washington 4A state runner-up finish. The squad also captured the 2023 regional title as well as the league championship.
A 2023 candidate for national player of the year, Harris has a top three Washington player ranking. She holds the Camas record for most points scored in a game.
Harris played in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) with Tree of Hope, the same program as current Bobcat Drea Brumfield. Harris served as a 2023 USA Nike Hoops Summit practice player during her high school offseason, as well.
“Addison has an endless motor,” Binford said. “She gets her hands on everything and is a relentless rebounder. Addison runs rim-to-rim and is attack-oriented. She plays so hard and is so consistent. Addison is going to be the culture kid who engages her teammates on the court or from the bench. When she walks into a room, she is contagious- a firecracker.”

Re: WBB recruits
A few years ago, the two Montana players would likely not have stayed in-state. Coach Binford has created a program for which they will stay. This is an important step. Go, ‘Cats.
