Re: Tonight's game vs. Rocky Mountain College
Its quite possible Rocky could beat every team we beat this year. They are a well oiled machine at the moment. To lose to them is not the end of the world, ONLY because we have a seriously gutted team. I mean, are Rocky players really ecstatic to have beaten us? If so, they havent seen what happened to our team since last year. It happens from time to time, just like how we can occasionally reach out and beat a Pac12 team.. I dont even like to post about this, but it seems there are so many so quick to judge and call for doom and gloom. For all the reasons stated in every discussion regarding a loss... Coaches left, Best players left, Coach hired last minute, no real recruits available, We have 4 or 5 injuries... etc, etc... the sky isnt falling, its just a rebuilding year and it isnt going to be a miraculous turnaround, but we could surprise a few and that is all we can hope for.

Most of the kids with dreams of playing in college play AAU or some form of travel ball across the west and sometimes further. They get seen that way. Several have gone out of state and a few UM or MSU. With football seems like they can wait 2 to 3 years for development. Basketball seems like if they can't project you helping you year 2 they are not offeringnanacat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2023 1:21 pmOnly one example, but I knew a superstar high school post player. Strong inside, great shooter from in or outside, very dependable and consistent. Got to college and got moved to guard. He hadn't played guard except sparingly as a freshman in high school. But at 6'2" he wasn't a college level post player. He played one year and quit bball.
Regarding MT players, how often is that the case? They may have exceptional talent in high school but especially those playing Class B and C, they don't have tons of competition to really develop their talent, therefore recruiters aren't looking at them the same way as AA players, and out of state where the competition level is so much higher.

While registering my vehicles the assessor stated "I have had both Cat and Griz students and alums work for me and the Griz end up working under the direction of the Cats."

A few Montana kids are not going to fix what's wrong with the Cats. It's gonna take a good recruiting year if there are any good players available that haven't heard about NIL!

Hard to disagree with this assessment. In the old days before players could transfer at will, when a coach built up a program and won a conference championship and then moved UP to a higher level, it was almost considered a positive thing. Typically the team he left had a good foundation laid with good players. But with the wide open transfer portal, it DOES seem weird that Danny came to his alma mater, buillt it up, then left it worse off than it was before he came.Camo_Cat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2023 12:16 amMade the trip to Bozeman a day early for the football game just to catch a basketball game since I am not able to make very many. This is what I saw tonight:
-- This team plays lazy basketball. A lot of standing around on offense with little off-ball movement, sloppy passes, and poor shot selection. On defense, they play like their feet are planted in cement, and no aggression rebounding the ball or efforts to put a body on a body to box out.
-- We were told that we would see a different style of ball this year, that Logie's style of play was up-tempo, full-court ball. I saw very little of that. In fact, we looked like the slower of the two teams tonight.
-- This team has no shooter. Patterson can get hot, but he's spotty. Gorake shows a spark. Ford hit a couple of three's, but his shot has gotten funky this year. The ball is spinning sideways out of his hand and has little chance of hitting the mark. Outside of that, no one can shot. And for a team with little size, that's a recipe for disaster.
-- The crowd is non-existent. No noise, no excitement, and few warm bodies in the stands. You can tell with Danny gone and bunch of the guys from last year gone, it's like someone let the air out of the balloon.
From what I saw in person tonight, I am not very hopeful for the conference season. Unless Logie can find lightning in a bottle, this team will finish near the bottom of conference this season.
