Sacramento State Scouting Report

It's now time to focus on the opponent this weekend - Sacramento State.
We demolished them last year in Bozeman. Who can forget that block by Ryan Elliot on their punter during one of Corey Smith's Punt Returns for a TD.

What do we need to look out for this week. Sac State's Strengths/Weaknesses, etc.

Only that poor bastard who got blocked ten yards straight backwards! I bet he is still trying to get the number of that train that ran him over!

Simply stated, that was the biggest and fiercest hit I have ever seen laid on anyone. The only hit this year that could even be shown on the same highlight film would be the Gathing block on a punt return against Adams State.

And the Gathing hit on that CSU wedge guy? WOW! That guy didn't know where he was for like 5 minutes. The Sac State hit last year was more in line with Warren Sapp's hit on that Green Bay guy. Going at an angle and WHAM!

The CSU one though, I've never seen knocked as silly as that guy was. They couldn't even get him out of the game because he thought he was playing offense (shoving coaches etc.)

My perception of Sac State. Some good skill guys, maybe suspect in the trenches (the Hammerheads are long gone), good quarterback.

A must win for MSU. If we can't beat Sac State, we probably don't deserve to go to the playoffs.

Can Sac State beat us? Can North Carolina beat Miami? Can Baylor beat Texas A&M? Heck, can Weber State beat ISU? Sometimes the ball bounces funny ways, but if MSU can limit mistakes-especially turnovers, and keep holding and personal foul penalties to an absolute minimum (something we did very well at NAU), MSU should win comfortably.

We steamrolled NAU largely because we made few mistakes, got a few favorable breaks, had only one penatly (a five yarder) in the first half.

We mess around with Sac State, the way we did Weber or South Dakota State, and we could be in trouble.

Don't get me wrong here, because I know NOTHING about what Sad Sac St. has done this year beyond their record, but I have been talking since Saturday night about this looming as a "big-head" blunder game. Almost every Cat fan I've talked to is "assuming" that we'll drub SS.

I know the coaches well enough to know that they are warning the kids about this very trap & how dangerous it can be, but I also know how those young men can be when they get back to their dorms & apartments. After Saturdays unbelievable result, they are no doubt pretty sure of themselves & the coaches will have their hands full this week getting them to take Sac seriously.

I hope I'm wrong about this; if I am, that means we have a good group of FOCUSED young men who truly understand that from this point on, every game is a MUST-WIN.

Very well put Gato, at this point I would put my mood for the Sac St. game at "cautiously optimistic." Now let's go Cats, go out and prove it again with another big win!
