I think Ah Yat will challenge for the starting job. McDowell was at his absolute ceiling the latter half of the regular season and it was their defense along with Junior Bergen (and some helpful refereeing) that got them out of even the Furman game while playing at home. NDSU simply blew it and should have won that game, but WashGris Magic prevailed.

McDowell looked lost and not at all confident against SDSU after the first drive even in his facial expressions.

I think he already transferred to um from central Arkansas so I doubt he goes anywhere. Plus its not like he's some stud QB who would get NIL money thrown at him. Doubt he goes anywhere.

He did initially commit to Choate, so maybe Jeffrey can throw some NIL his way and get him outta Missoula!

I think Bergan is the only Griz that might hit the portal. I don't think Gilman isn't going anywhere...he's not that special. He had maybe one or two games that he ran over 100 yards. I don't understand how he earned the Rice award. Maybe because he was a starter on a highly ranked team.
We used so many backs that Humphrey didn't stick out too much...and I'm glad we used him that way. However, I can see him hitting the portal if he becomes more than a spot player next year.

Gilman is an incredibly physical running RB, and ends up getting extra yards when a lot of backs wouldn’t. He’s a good RB.

I feel like any portal news for the 2 teams that played Sunday will most likely come today or tomorrow.

There will always be some guys who aren’t getting playing time that will bail and the gris won’t be any different. Starters will be fewer but I bet they lose a few. This week isn’t the only time current players can go in the portal. After Spring ball will be another time to look for an exodus.

Seems like their best players are graduating, especially on defense. Mayguiness and Fowler are the only offensive guys I can think of that are done. I don't see anyone on their offense that would get a lot of interest and RBs are just not a hot commodity in the game of football these days. On defense, the top players are done, and I don't see anyone getting much interest.

UM will continue to be a highly competitive team. They figured out you should throw the ball to your best skill position players in 2023 (Bobby Hauck is a genius), got the +1 run game working with their QB selection but not until a total offensive collapse almost happened (again...Bobby Hauck is a genius for ADAPTING even though all other college coaches need to adjust throughout a given year), and defensively they are a very in-sync unit that plays very hard and tackles well.

Defensively, they'll need to figure out their interior presence now that Gubner is gone. Their LBs will always be a solid group with All-Big Sky players on it and Riley Wilson was one of the best edge defenders in the Big Sky last year imo. At safety, same thing...always will be a solid group.

Offensively, if they keep embracing a scheme that puts their athletes in space they should be one of the best offenses in the Big Sky.

Its going to be us, UM, and Sac in 2024. I don't see a pulse from any other team. Idaho got obliterated by the portal.

Ah Yat doesn’t look like he’s anything special based on the few games he got to play in during the first half of the season. Maybe he puts up a fight in fall camp, but from what I saw he’s QB2.

My thought was that he looks like a good young QB, a little more development and he could be pretty damn good.

I hope not one single person from either team leaves and we win the chipper next year and then they all regret not taking the money. 😂

Colter reporting McDowell entered the portal.

Edit: on my phone, got the tweet.
