Top High School Programs

Post by raincat » Thu Aug 03, 2006 1:01 pm

I wandered into an interesting site listing the winningest high school football programs (total wins, not percentage) in the country as of seasons end, 2004. Basically it was the "Top 1,000 schools". Here are some of the better know high schools listed in the top 100 and their rank.

1. Valdosta, GA 828-179-35
2. Massillon, OH 767-222-35
22. Amarillo, TX 686-299-22
41. North Medford, OR 649-217-34
53. New Orleans Jesuit, LA 626-284-34
61. Brownwood, TX 620-308-20
87. Butte High, MT 604-309-38
99. Muskogee, OK 594-387-12

Isn't former Bobcat linebacker coach Greg Salo the HC in Butte trying to revitalize their program?

Man, talk about history! I'm not sure how many games and NATIONAL titles Coach Bazemore had with Valdosta (I think they have 25?) but there was a class act and human being. I believe he played both football and basketball for Western Kentucky. I think the last five years, Valdosta has been struggling with a team from the Gainsville, Florida area. And look at Butte! I'm surprised Massillon is still so high. Anyone old enough to remember when Notre Dame hired their coach?

Would you please post the link if you have one?

Cat Grad: I don't have a link...try putting something like "texas all time high school victories" in your browser. You should hit something.

Thanks, raincat. Used to have copies of this stuff laying around our offices and it made for interesting trivia contests while we were busy getting ready for games or moving water hoses or chalking fields...bit of great information for you coaches--did you know if you put a little roundup in the lime when you're first chalking a field, the lines will pretty much last the entire season (even those heavy Southern rains won't wash the lines away  )

Heck, Butte HS is so good, they are even undefeated against that mighty school we now know as the UM ;)

Our Press Guide indicates:

1898 Aggies (Bobcats) 12 Butte Hi 22
1900 MS? 6 Butte Hi 0
1900 MS? 0 Butte Hi 5
1901 MS? 0 Butte Business College (BBC) 23
1901 MS? 11 BBC 0
1909 MS? 0 Butte Hi 5
1909 MS 3 Butte Hi 0
1910 MS 2 Butte Columbians (??) 0
1915 MS 29 Butte Athletic Club (BAC) 6
1916 MS 27 BAC 0
1924 MSC 31 Butte Centerville (BC) 0
1929 MSC 25 BC 0
1930 MSC 44 BC 0
1930 MSC 38 BC 0
1934 MSC 20 Butte Englewood (BE) 0

So the CATS are 11-4 vs. Butte weather grade school, highschool, business college, athletic club or neighborhood, excluding Tech. But the fact remains, the Bulldogs lead the series 3-2!
