I think they were calling everything tight in this game specifically because of the fight. They wanted to keep the game completely within their control.

(Except for Jones and his damn flopping of course. When you call one early and then just stop calling them, you basically give him permission to do it as much as he wants for the rest of the game.)

Great game by the men today. Still can’t believe the refs gave Patterson a technical after reviewing the play when Jones threw himself to the ground and grabbed his knee. What a joke! I hope we end his season in Boise.

Olmsted has had some really nice games down the stretch and nice to see Goracke get out of his funk. I hope the team bottles up the way they played this weekend and bring that to Boise.

I think Logie has removed any doubt that he can coach at this level. Awesome coaching job tonight even though we lost.

So whats up with Walker? If he did punch the guy he should be out on Monday. Logie needs to get his head on straight. I am not going to rant about how frustrating it is to watch him play sometimes. Okay maybe I will he takes plays off and seems like if he isn't involved in the play he has no drive to work harder. Maybe Sam can rub off on him. I think he has alot of talent, but he needs to be set straight and get some major conditioning in before next year if these guys are going to slowly grow this team.

He was hand fight fighting with Jones and took a swipe at his face. Not closed fist. Jones flopped like the gris punter. He paid for it. Time to move on.

Logie has had a few costly technicals himself this season. There's definitely a balance between standing up for your team and hurting them by giving the opponent free points. There's still a 0% success rate in getting a ref to change their call by yelling at them.

Lost a lot of respect for Casey Jones yesterday, what a flopper.

He jabs Walker’s shoulder, and Walker let’s it get to him and tries to shove Jone’s shoulder back but misses and maybe gets part of the face, hard to tell from TV but down goes Gym Muscle Jones. But Walker needs to be smarter, it’s always the second guy who gets caught.

Scrumming with Patterson, Patterson is bent over trying to pick up the ball and Jones kicks at it, and Patterson’s hands along with it, which again, Patterson doesn’t react well and sort of goes at his legs and takes him down. Scrawniest guy on the court with the WWF takedown apparently.

And when Olmstead has the ball at the top of the arch, and simply turns his body to reposition himself (didn’t stick his butt out or anything), Jones is trailing Ford and recoils like he got a real punch after crashing into Olmstead’s backside and draws the foul. Whenever a guy claps like that after a call you know it’s because he sold it.

Not a fan.

It’s hard to even believe that Division 1 refs are stupid enough to fall for the Olmsted foul.

Rewatching the game this morning and I have some thoughts:
1. Walker’s technical was flag 1 at best. HOWEVER, he should be smarter than to let jones get in his head like that
2. All respect has been lost for Casey Jones. What’s funny is he is the perfect embodiment of EWU. He plays hard, but he’s cheap, he’s a flop, and he loves to whine to the officials.
3. David Riley is a child. That man isn’t mature enough to be a coach at any level. How he isn’t ejected from every game is beyond me
4. This cats team battles hard. A rematch against these 2 teams in Boise will be a knockdown drag out and could result in black eyes and a few more ejections
5. John Olmsted should start tomorrow against Weber. Big John played incredible and coaches need to show Walker that he isn’t above anyone on this team
6. Refs lost the plot. EWU shot 14 more FT’s, everyone for MSU was in foul trouble compared to only 2 for EWU. Casey jones only ending with 2 fouls is an absolute indictment of how poor the officiating was.
7. Eastern fans might be the worst in the BigSky

I have a couple good friends who are UM grads and big Griz fans, and we frequently joke that the thing that makes our friendship possible is our mutual disdain for Eastern Washington.

If anyone has ever been to an Eastern event they’re all the same whether it’s football or basketball. Loud top 40 rap music all the time and obnoxious fans. I can’t stand ewu.

The guys really played hard yesterday....great to see. I think expanding the rotation to include more of Sam, Olmstead and Miller is helping....the starters are getting a bit more rest not running out of gas late in the game. Looking forward to see how they perform in the tournament

Re #3: The first time my wife saw David Riley, she said "He looks like he works at a gas station!" Every time the camera cut to him I heard him saying, "Sir, you have to lift the handle before you can pump gas!" His demeanor and facial expressions are that of a petulant child. I am not so sure that bigger programs will be taking a look at him, despite what the commentators on the TV said.

I heard that you had a player sent off for fighting. I watched that play a couple of times and your player did seem to take a swipe at Jones and then kind of squared off on him. I was told that the official called it fighting and sent him off. Does anybody know what the consequences are now for fighting. I know that it used to be that they were barred for the next game as well. Is that still true?

That is not something that a player or team would want to get a reputation for. I'm guessing that your coach will want to get a handle on that situation, even if the BSC does not. I would think that it would only bring more officiating attention to your team in the future and to that player in particular. At least it didn't become a bench clearing brawl. I've seen that happen before.

Did you happen to notice the inital contact from EWU player?. I think it was a push back from that, probably flagrant 1, should have been a 2. Caitlin Clark push/slapped a girl yesterday harder than that and didn't get anything g

MSU Played really well Saturday, very impressed.

I think the ejection was too much, it warranted a Tech but not an ejection.

Casey Jones is a good guy, he gets in players heads, like Saturday, and I think the googles throw off how good and athletic he really is and it frustrates opponents...

They game was very physical on both ends. Besides the ejection calls were bad (and good) on both sides. MSU had 5 more fouls than EWU, which isn't lopsided and MSU took a lot more outside shots than EWU, so you would expect the FT difference for that reason.

I wouldn't be surprised to see these teams match up in the semis next week in Boise...Good luck until then...

I don't remember it being much of a contest last year - I think we beat them by over 40.
