Thank You Leon
Just short of one year ago, Leon Costello was in a tight spot trying to find a good replacement for Coach Sprinkle and Co. The process took some time, and Mr. Costello had the players involved in picking their new coach. I think everyone can see that Coach Logie and the staff he brought to MSU is top notch, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Logie's name pop up on the radar quickly just like we saw happen with Danny after he brought success back to the Bobcat men's basketball program.
Leon deserves a ton of credit for maybe taking a risk by going for a D2 coach instead of the safer hire of promoting an assistant like Coach Haslam - who I think has done a magnificent job in his role as Danny's big man coach and top notch European recruiter (Osobor, Belo, Adamu, etc.).

And I don’t think that winning the tournament championship is the lone variable of that. What Logie did with this team over the course of the year was equally impressive. MSU had some very tough losses, yet persevered and continued to improve. Costello’s ability to recognize that Logie has that ability it noteworthy as you said.lv2hoop wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 8:28 amJust short of one year ago, Leon Costello was in a tight spot trying to find a good replacement for Coach Sprinkle and Co. Count me in as one of those guys who had my doubts. Not anymore. What Coach Logie did with this team, particularly over the last month, may be one of the best coaching performances I have ever witnessed.

Re: Thank You Leon
Forget one of the best, this has been the single best coaching performance I've ever witnessed at MSU. Against Weber in the regular season finale, MSU trailed 56-48 with 10 minutes left and outscored them 28-8 the rest of the way to win by 12. Against Weber in the Quarterfinals, MSU trailed 50-38 with 15 minutes left and outscored them 53-32 the rest of the way to win by 9. And then last night, MSU trailed 49-38 with 17 minutes left and outscored them 47-21 the rest of the way to win by 15. Combined, MSU outscored its opponents 128-61 during those three second half comebacks that turned into blowouts. That kind of turnaround maybe happens once in a season for most teams, but MSU did it three times over a span of four games!

I would love to see us capitalize on this momentum and continue to get the student section cranked up for home games next year! When you see what a difference it makes for teams like Utah State and Grand Canyon, it doesn't take much imagination to think that it couldn't get ignited at the Brick like that. If we get the student section packed out, then the rest of the attendance will rise as well.

Speaking of "turnarounds" I had to chuckle last night during the postgame interview with Sam Letcholat when Sam said "just think, we lost to a NAIA team. We are probably the first team to ever lose to a NAIA team and make it to the Big Dance!" Ha ha, ain't it the truth!

My wife and I call them "heaters" as in, "HERE COMES THE HEATER!!" or "THE SECOND HALF HEATER IS ON!!" kind of goofy I know, but it's fun during the game. Don't know if I heard it somewhere else or made it up.MSU01 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 8:47 amForget one of the best, this has been the single best coaching performance I've ever witnessed at MSU. The various sports I played one of the mantras passed around was be wary of an opponent on a heater and embrace your teammates on one.

Re: Thank You Leon
Leon continues to excel in bringing in quality successful coaches time and time again. I know you are focused on basketball here but we also lost our women's volleyball coach last year and Leon brought in a guy named Coach Houk who takes basically the same bunch of ladies to the winningest record ever for WVB and then takes the team into the final four of the equivalent of the NIT for WVB. This thread is rightly about Leon and Coach Logie's success and it is richly deserved!!!.... but I just wanted to point out Leon's continued success on all fronts... IMO. And I want to know how we can keep Leon too!lv2hoop wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 8:28 amJust short of one year ago, Leon Costello was in a tight spot trying to find a good replacement for Coach Sprinkle and Co.
