"[1 pm Saturday update to this story: we've confirmed Logie has talked with WSU but no details beyond that.]"
The authors of the story seem to think South Dakota States head coach is in the lead for the job, maybe... And, it sounds like WSU wants to announce a head coach this weekend.

Starting to get a bit more nervous about this one the more I think about it! David Riley is the obvious choice at first, but Logie is 8 years older and has a much longer track record of success as a head coach. It's also hard to imagine they have other candidates who would have better recruiting connections in the Pacific Northwest than Logie.

So pretry much if we have any form of success next year Logie is gone, is how I'm taking this. Maybe that's over analyzing this. Just because someone talked to someone doesn't mean they are interested. And with him being from Whitworth maybe this is a dream job that only comes around every once in a while. But I'm still not sure what to think.

Re: Logie on Wazzu potential candidate list
I think you're exactly right, and while it always stings to lose a great coach I also think that is a good thing for MSU in the long run. We've seen what it was like for MSU to have coaches who simply weren't good enough to draw interest from larger schools, and it wasn't a great time to be a fan of MSU basketball during those years...actually, during those decades. Costello made a great hire with Sprinkle and another great hire with Logie, and I trust him to make another great hire if and when he needs to do it again.lutecat wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2024 1:58 pmSo pretry much if we have any form of success next year Logie is gone, is how I'm taking this. Almost dont want to post this, but it is what it is..
To me, this at best is saying that, through second hand knowledge, Logie presented some good vision for the school's bball program. Its amazing how our program can change dramatically from year to year here on out.

Re: Logie on Wazzu potential candidate list
On the plus side, maybe MSU could be the first ever team to go to the NCAA Tournament four years in a row with three different head coaches.

The quality of applicants is going to be through the roof with both previous head coaches getting bigger gigs in short time frames. One making $3M a year.

Hallelujah! We are attempting to step up and pay the rent!
While registering my vehicles the assessor stated "I have had both Cat and Griz students and alums work for me and the Griz end up working under the direction of the Cats."

Wow. Crazy if that’s true.

Re: Logie on Wazzu potential candidate list
Even if we double Logie's salary ($380K-390K) do you think if the issue is salary it will make a difference!? Sprinkle was making $900K/year at Utah State and left that to for Washington where it is reported he will make $3.1mil/year. I go to imagine WSU coach's salary is more than USU but probably not near the UW level. Montana State will never be able to compete with those salaries!

We can hope that if it's true that he's negotiating then it's not about all the extra money.......mslacat wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 3:13 pmEven if we double Logie's salary ($380K-390K) do you think if the issue is salary it will make a difference!? Maybe we can get a one year extension with a really nice big buy out

WSU's last coach was making 1.5 million and they reportedly offered him a raise to 2.5 to stay. If it's all about money Logie's already heading west on I-90, but their weird conference situation may play somewhat of a role too.mslacat wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 3:13 pmEven if we double Logie's salary ($380K-390K) do you think if the issue is salary it will make a difference!? Re: Logie on Wazzu potential candidate list
Yeah, there's no way that Logie doesn't take this, if he was truly offered. Tinkle is around $2mil/year. Randy Bennett at St. Mary's is around $1Mil. I'm sure Mark Few is pushing $2-2.5Mil. I'd imagine WSU is offering over a million bucks a year.MSU01 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 3:48 pmWSU's last coach was making 1.5 million and they reportedly offered him a raise to 2.5 to stay. To live in Pullman, Washington....a state with no income tax.
(side bar, any chance the agent is bluffing and leaking this to negotiate a raise at MSU.....yeah, probably not)

I’d be pretty surprised if he stays, hard to pass that up. Personally, I’m more worried that Costello won’t be here for long.
