Should basketball have a “41”?

Not sure if Logie is hinting around here but it sounds like a cool idea to me.

Yes. Pretty rare for a MT kid, and perhaps less so for Binford, but I like the idea. Volleyball? T&F? Everything?

Great idea, they'd have to expand it beyond always having a Senior wear the number but it would be cool to have a Montana player wearing #41. Although, some players might have their favorite number they want to wear and 41 definitely isn't one of the more sought after basketball numbers they might want.

Harder in basketball for sure, but I love the idea! Currently, we have a couple Montana guys on the roster - Ash and Robinson. We usually have at least one Montana kid on the roster, but I do remember times when we didn't. I love the patches with the state and 41; maybe everybody on the basketball team wears the patch?

I really love the 41 patch idea for all the senior Montana natives that won't be wearing the 41 jersey that football will start this year. That is a great way to spread the honor to many more deserving Montana natives while at the same time keeping the prestige of the 41 jersey strong.

For all of the other sports I'd much rather see a 41 patch for native Montana athletes instead of anyone player wearing a 41 jersey.

Expand too far and it loses the reason for the tradition. That is just my opinion. 41 is tied to the State admission, but also the service members on the team lost in service. Not sure the other sports have that same legacy.

This is where I tend to land. 41 is really cool for football and for the school but when every team starts handing out 41 I think it looses its true meaning fast.

Something cool, however, putting a ‘406’ or a state outline patch on every athletes uniform who is from Montana is a great idea. That way fans can I.D. the homegrown talent but also keeps ‘41’ something separate

Isn't 406 on all helmets already? And they are sort of following that theme with the 41 patch for MT seniors or do you mean all sports.

Are you saying they shouldn't wear helmets for basketball?

Yes for all sports! ‘406’ on football helmets isn’t exclusive to just Montana boys, either. I’m saying give every homegrown Montana athlete (football, basketball, volleyball, T&F, golf, all sports) a patch or something on their uniform to signify they’re from the 406

Use the number 29 in honor of the team that really put MSU basketball on the map, the 1929 National Champion Golden Bobcats. And give it to a senior, no matter where they are from.

Except 29 isn't a permissible jersey number in college basketball. Bummer.

It is now, they changed the rules last year so anything from 0-99 is now legal.

I saw No. I don't think it would be as meaningful on teams with small rosters and only a player or two from MT.

Hmmm. Not so fast. The basketball team is much smaller. I don't like some players having a patch and some not.
