We can feel safe in three weeks when the portal closes! The good news is that I'm not sure if MSU has any returning players on its roster who are likely to draw significant interest from bigger schools. Other than Robert Ford who would have been in high demand had he not used up his eligibility, I feel like MSU is definitely a "sum is more than its parts" type of team right now. If I'm a player, I'd also have a really tough time deciding to bail right now after my coach just turned down a very significant pay increase to stay at MSU.

Do you think Bryce Zephir is likely to play point guard for MSU? Based on his stats he appears to be pretty good on assists.mslacat wrote: ↑Sun Apr 21, 2024 4:27 pmi would really like to see us sign a big man and we really need a point guard (or 2)for next season.lv2hoop wrote: ↑Sat Apr 20, 2024 9:58 amMbb Roster Update as of 4/20/24: 2 scholarship spots remaining

Based on the signings so far (still think they need another guard and desperately need a center) here is your potential starting lineup combinations
1: Bryce Zephir / Jed Miller
2: Tyler Patterson / Patrick McMahon / Jabe Mullins
3: Tyler Patterson / Jabe Mullins / Brian Goracke
4: Brian Goracke / Sam Lecholat
5: Brandon Walker / Sam Lecholat
It will be really interesting to see where Patrick and Jabe fit into the equation. The Cats have potential to be massive from the 1 to the 3 or 4 spot. Their biggest weakness currently is that 5 spot. Walker showed that he can only give about 20 min/game and I don’t expect his fitness to magically improve to the point where he can give 30+ at any point next year.

Re: 2024-25 Mbb roster tracker
Thanks! It will be interesting to see how Logie fills his last two roster spots - there certainly doesn't appear to be a need at the 2 and 3 spots, they are loaded with talented players there.Desert_Bobcat wrote: ↑Sun Apr 21, 2024 10:01 pmYes.

I notice Calum Rutherfurd, our lone center and a walk on, is no longer listed on the roster by verbal commits. Did he walk off?

I’m not surprised about Geron — he showed flashes of talent, but nothing of consistency. I’m sure he’ll find a better fit.

Two recruits on campus this weekend - Nigel Burris by way of Idaho and Utah State. And Jeremiah Davis from Fullerton College.

Burris would be a fantastic signing. 2023 Big Sky Freshman of the year at Idaho.

He would, as would Davis, the number 16 ranked JC player in the country.

Re: 2024-25 Mbb roster tracker
I would like to see Logie use the final 2 scholarship spots on some young high school guys or current freshman in the portal. I think it’s safe to say that the Cats most impactful players for next year are on the team currently or have signed already (with exception of maybe another guard?).
The roster as it stands is incredibly top heavy (7 seniors and 4 juniors). I’d love to see another center and another 2 guard come in and get to learn under these seniors. It seems like a bit of a waste to have that much senior experience and only be able to share it with one incoming freshman and 1 sophomore who is a walk-on. This portal class has been stellar so far, I’d just like to see another high schooler or two come in so that Trap Johnson isn’t the only incoming freshman.

Perhaps this is the new way to build a roster - load up on Junior & Senior transfers who are likely to finish their careers for your school, then replace them with more junior & senior transfers when they leave. Logie is certainly trying to build a win now roster, can't say I blame him since he has already attracted interest from bigger schools after only one year.

Would really like to see a true center (Olmsted type player) signed. I feel like they are pretty well loaded at every other position now.

Yup, toss (I almost wrote sprinkle ) in a high school recruit or two, now and then, that might compete and that’s the future of college basketball. Hope to keep your coach for four or five years too.MSU01 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2024 10:37 pmPerhaps this is the new way to build a roster - load up on Junior & Senior transfers who are likely to finish their careers for your school, then replace them with more junior & senior transfers when they leave. Re: 2024-25 Mbb roster tracker
It looks like Logie and staff are down to one scholarship remaining as we roll into May. It'll be interesting to see what the final roster looks like when it gets finalized.
So far it feels like they've done nice work to replace the big losses (Ford & Big John) with all of the back court recruits (Mullins, Zephir, Davis, Trap Johnson) and then getting BJ Kolly to backfill for losing John.
Now it'll be fun to start seeing what the 24-25 schedule will look like.
