Funny, I was thinking the b stood for barn....
Why is it taking so long to build a bubble? If some tailgate spots were taken away by the construction they've been at it for some time. I drove by about a month ago and they have lights up for a parking lot, it looks like? And curbs. But I didn't see anything that led me to believe it was almost done.
Get better coffee from another gas station. Lol
If you've never been in some of the dorms in Missoula they were old 20 years ago. Jesse Hall is the one I've been in. Not anything a kid these days would want to live in. I think I read that at least 2? Of the dorms were converted to offices a few years ago. So take out 2/3 dorms and you're at 95% capacity as was mentioned. I'll take his word for the capacity. I don't know otherwise. Then you get to build yourself a brand new dorm that kids will be more likely to live in. I have no comment on the parking garage because I haven't heard anything to speak on that.Cataholic wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 5:49 pmMSU and UM are two completely different scenarios. MSU dorms were at or near full capacity so justifying additional facilities is easy given the demand. No question that future revenues will fund the new facilities.AFCAT wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 10:43 amFunding for the dorms would be done just like MSU funded theirs, student room and board fees.Cataholic wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 10:01 amNew dorms and parking garage? Did a dorm get condemned? It is clearly not expansion due to growth. Where is that funding coming from?
Funding for the parking garage would be paid by money generated from pay parking and permits.
UM is the exact opposite. They have facilities that are not being used, so they build new facilities? Hmmm…. Seems that it will only make the tenants of the old dorms gravitate to the new dorm making the old dorms even less attractive.
As for the parking structure, UM once handled 12,000+ students. Now they are at half that and need new parking? If the new IPF took away parking and created a need for new parking, that is a really bad planning process. Sounds like poor project management to me. And are these new parking fees (revenue to find the project) just being caniballized from another spot on campus? That is not new revenue generation. It is just moving money from the left pocket to the right pocket.
$2.99!! Us Loserbago folk ain’t got no $2.99 for no coffee. But, seriously, thanks for the tip!

Speaking of bubbles. Apparently, MSU is going to keep at least the large bubble around for a while longer. After the fitness center is completed, the large bubble will have artificial turf installed and the football team can use it for practice until their indoor is completed. Intramural sports can also use the indoor bubble.iaafan wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 8:43 amIndoor Practice Bubibilty.grizzh8r wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 10:35 pmFunny, I was thinking the b stood for barn....

Here is what I had originally posted:GRIZFNZ wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 8:15 pmTake off your blue and yellow glasses every once in a while and stop being such a hater. On campus housing is currently near 95% capacity and demand will continue to increase due to rising Missoula rental prices. The new dorm will have greater capacity than the 3 dormitories being replaced. Once construction is completed, the old dorms will be torn down, freeing up space for future campus construction projects. The MMAC eliminated many parking spaces in Lot P and the new dorm will take up much of the parking lot near Pantzer, thus the need for a new parking garage.Cataholic wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 5:49 pmMSU and UM are two completely different scenarios. Nothing in that statement is wrong. If new dorms are being built, it is not because of growth. And your 95% occupancy is terribly misleading. It is like condemning half of the a 20,000 seat stadium, and then claiming a sellout when you sell 10,000 seats.New dorms and parking garage? Did a dorm get condemned? It is clearly not expansion due to growth. Where is that funding coming from?
I had no idea that thing was that big. Any idea how big it is? 250' X 100'?AFCAT wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 9:33 amSpeaking of bubbles. Not sure of the overall square footage (60,000 square feet combined in both domes though), but they do have four full size basketball courts in that big Dome. Technically, if the cats get turf in there soon, they would have beaten um in having an indoor practice facility.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 12:32 pmI had no idea that thing was that big. Do you know how many people have to chew enough gum to cover an entire football field? Are they going to name it Bazooka Field?lutecat wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 5:33 amWhy is it taking so long to build a bubble? Appears to be wider than the football field and at least 70 yards long.AFCAT wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 2:01 pmNot sure of the overall square footage (60,000 square feet combined in both domes though), but they do have four full size basketball courts in that big Dome. Live look at the gris fan board at that news.
You can see the footprint on this map in comparison to Bobcat Stadium. North Temp Gym is the big dome.

I should clarify they charge 2.99 for fancy coffee if you don't want to pay 7 bucks at Starbucks. But normal coffee is normal coffee prices.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 7:31 am$2.99!! Us Loserbago folk ain’t got no $2.99 for no coffee. But, seriously, thanks for the tip!

This would be my guess as well. I believe fundraising is still occurring as there has been no announcement of any kind after making it clear it must be 100% funded before ground breaking. I just hope the needle is still moving.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 12:10 pmNow back to the IPF: I saw the Sime Construction excavator out at the site last week. Looks like they did a revision to the pond in preparation for the IPF. I think the funding for that may have come out of a different pot (general funds?), however, since no announcement has been made. Then again, the official announcement may just be waiting for a press conference to be set up that fits the schedule of all the principals. I really don’t know.
I think fundraising might be done. But I think the website still has it listed and I’d think it would be pulled if it’s still there. PhatCat hasn’t been wrong about this stuff though so … ???RICO CAT wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 12:43 pmThis would be my guess as well. Well I'm not sure why he should call, he's just commenting on the work. And don't call me Shirley.
