By my estimate there’s been close to $60 million in athletic facilities and athletic facility-related projects at MSU since 2009.
2010 - EZ project $11 million
2011 - stadium lights $.5 million
2??? - track improvements $?
2011 - scoreboard $.5 million
2??? - Fieldhouse improvements
2021 - Bobcat Athletic Complex $18 million
2024 - scoreboard $?
2024 - Indoor Training Facility $25 million
Anyone know those years and amounts?
Didn’t the Thayer family donate 1 Million for the scoreboard? I might be confused…or it maybe was a gift that covered several things, but the reason for their name being on the board was their gift.

I’ve always wondered about this. So you donate enough to be recognized, but then in a few years someone else pays more to upgrade and your contribution is forgotten. Has to be a better way to do this
The stadium used to be named after Reno H. Sales.
My mother-in-law is a Sales family member from Bozeman. The Sales family hasn’t donated in years as far as I know as they still own most of their land and aren’t “rich” until they decide to sell it. Reno got his recognition and I had great times at Sales Stadium as a kid and through college.
I think I’m the only extended or married-in family member who has an MSU degree. Wife went to UM.
Seattle to Billings to Missoula to Bozeman to Portland to Billings

By my estimate there’s been around $70.65 million in football-related projects at MSU since 2010:
2010 - EZ project $11 million
2011 - stadium lights $.5 million
2011 - scoreboard $.5 million
2017 - new synthetic turf $.65 million
2021 - Bobcat Athletic Complex $18 million
2024 - scoreboard $1(?) million
2024 - Indoor Practice Facility $26 million
2024 - parking lot upgrade $13(?) million
Anyone know the cost of the scoreboard and parking lot upgrade? Entire project is $13 million for lots "near" Bobcat Stadium. So, should all of that be considered football-related?
The stadium was built for $500,000 back in the early 70s. It had one major upgrade around 1998 (west grandstand and skyboxes) from the original construction until 2010 (nearly 40 years).
MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Reno H. Sales stadium! Heil heating and cooling products scoreboard!
The good old days...which weren't that great. Although the name of the stadium wasn't the problem, it was mostly all the losing that was the problem

I believe the paving project is unrelated to the athletic department’s budget. I think it’s a south campus project which included Bobcat Stadium in an effort to upgrade & replace lost spaces due to new building construction. I can’t imagine the athletic department choosing this year to pave when they were trying to raise funds for the IPF.

Different pots of money all around. Parking lot improvements aren’t coming out of the athletic department budget and neither are stadium improvements, at least the really expensive ones, like the BAC and the indoor. I believe Tom is just writing about the money being spent that has a direct or indirect effect on football.

Correct. Per a Chronicle article, there's a total of $17 million going towards MSU parking lots with $13 million of it described as being put towards parking lots 'near' the stadium, which tells me they're used by fans attending games. I believe all lots near the stadium are open for student parking on non-game days. Doesn't affect the football team (players/coaches) much but it still enhances football.
Anyone know what the price tag on the new scoreboard is?

By my estimate there’s been over $71 million in football-related projects at MSU since 2010:
2010 - EZ project $11 million
2011 - stadium lights $.5 million
2011 - scoreboard $.5 million
2017 - new synthetic turf $.65 million
2021 - Bobcat Athletic Complex $18 million
2024 - scoreboard $2 million
2024 - Indoor Practice Facility $26 million
2024 - parking lot upgrade $13 million
The stadium was built for $500,000 back in the early 70s. It had one major upgrade around 1998 ($12 million for west grandstand and skyboxes) and SprinTurf was installed in 2008 ($1 million) from the original construction until 2010 (nearly 40 years).

Anyone else super thankful we aren’t the ones putting up a bubble indoor facility???
Definitely. But really, they
serve the same purpose. The on field benefits will be the same.
With that said, this is just another thing that shows just how far ahead MSU is over UM as a whole. MSUs IPF will be one of the nicest in the country at the FCS level. Just another new structure on campus that significantly benefits Student/Athletes.
MSUs indoor also has a 300 meter track and ums does not.
A 300 meter track?
It’s the oval thing that goes around the field. People run on it.
Silly me, I’ll be sure to watch for the 300 meter race, the 4x300 meter relay and the 4x1200 meter relay in the Olympics this summer.
I guess you don’t understand how a track works. You don’t have to stop after one lap, you can keep running. You should also read up on indoor track events. The NCAA has a whole season devoted to indoor track. In fact, this years championship were run on a 200 meter track. Yes, 400 meter races and longer run on a 200 meter track. NAU has a 300 meter track in their facility.
You should probably explain that indoor means inside an enclosed structure, hence the term indoor track. We should cut him (hopefully the correct pronoun) some slack as we know where he matriculation from.

By my estimate there’s been around $70.65 million in football-related projects at MSU since 2010:
2010 - EZ project $11 million
2011 - stadium lights $.5 million
2011 - scoreboard $.5 million
2017 - new synthetic turf $.65 million
2021 - Bobcat Athletic Complex $18 million
2024 - scoreboard $1(?) million
2024 - Indoor Practice Facility $26 million

Just an fyi. Indoor tracks are generally shorter than outdoor tracks and can be used for training year round when weather is adverse. Another reason MSU track teams will continue to improve.

Priceless!!
You should probably explain that indoor means inside an enclosed structure, hence the term indoor track. We should cut him (hopefully the correct pronoun) some slack as we know where he matriculated from.

By my estimate there’s been over $65 million in football-related projects at MSU since 2010:
2010 - EZ project $11 million
2011 - stadium lights $.5 million
2011 - scoreboard $.5 million
2017 - new synthetic turf $.65 million
2021 - Bobcat Athletic Complex $18 million
2024 - scoreboard $1.5 million
2024 - Indoor Practice Facility $26 million
2024 - parking lot upgrade $7 million
The stadium was built for $500,000 back in the early 70s. It had one major upgrade around 1998 ($12 million for west grandstand and skyboxes) and SprinTurf was installed in 2008 ($1 million) from the original construction until 2010 (nearly 40 years).
UM has also made significant investments in football in that time span. Around $25 million on projects just off the top of my head (I'm sure there's others):
IFB - $9 million
Champions Center - $14 million
Scoreboard - $1 million
Electronic banners (not sure what the actual name is) - ???
MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Not many indoor tracks have a full 400 meter oval. Try googling it. Nice try at a burn, though.
