2025 Recruiting - 126 known offers - 30 known commits - 85 committed elsewhere - 11 outstanding

It’s kind of interesting looking at the offer dates from last season. That’s the first year I included offer and commit dates in the recruiting thread. There were only five commits that had offers from the Cats before June of last year that ended up signing with the Cats. Most of the Cat commits were offered later in the Summer or in the Fall. The majority of the signees didn’t even commit until December.
There are 100+ offers that have went out this season, so far, and I know the Cats only had/have a real shot at maybe 20 of the players offered. It will be interesting to see how this all works out again because the Cats will probably sign 30+ new players this recruiting season and the majority of them don’t even have offers yet, that we know of. I know, teams throw out the offers early in the recruiting process in hopes of landing the prized players early. That kind of recruiting effort didn’t really work for the Cats, at least last year. Lots of offers put out early that don’t really turn into commits later. Maybe that’s true for most Big Sky/FCS teams as well. I might have to start up an analytics company that tracks different schools recruiting strategies and success rates.

I wonder if part of the strategy of throwing out offers to players that we really don’t have a chance on now, is in case they enter the portal later? At least MSU is on their radar if those type of players decide to transfer later on.

That has to be a part of the strategy. Develop a relationship now because you never know when that might benefit you later. I remember a couple of transfers that said that, they were in contact with MSU, but decided to sign with a different school and that relationship helped them sign with the Cats later. I cannot remember who those players were though.

Sure, that could be part of it, but I’m not sure it’s a large part of their strategy. After all, recruiting does take a lot of time and money and neither of those things are infinite in this case. Throwing out 75 or more offers to hopefully land a transfer or two out of those offers sometime in the future seems like an interesting way of doing things. However, I do believe Polidore had an offer from MSU before he signed with AF. Ezekiel definitely had an offer from MSU before he signed with North Texas. So, those two prior relationships probably worked out in MSUs favor. To be fair, the Cat coaching staff isn’t offering 4 and 5 star players, mostly 3 star and below players that they could possibly land now. They are offering a lot of guys that already have multiple FBS offers though and some of those offers do have me scratching my head sometimes. Anyway, it’s an interesting and fun process to watch and learn about, especially in this transfer portal era.

Young man from Oklahoma. He already has a few FBS offers but they are all over a year old.

Doing some more research on Warren. His twitter/X page indicates he is a class of 2025, but I see other pages online that indicate he graduated this year. Strange. I wonder if he is going to a Prep school.

Edit; I found a news article on him not signing this year but I can't access it because of a pay wall. So, he was a senior this year but something happened with all his FBS offers. Still strange that he is listing himself as a 2025 graduate, so I'm guessing he is going the prep route. He did changed schools, so that might have had something to do with it those offers falling through. Definitely an interesting prospect that might be a real hidden gem. Possibly two Oklahoma QBs on the roster. Doubt that has ever happened at MSU.

Edit; Yup, he is going to some sort of a prep school after graduating high school this year. I wonder if the Cats could bring him in early as a grey shirt instead.

What a crazy world we're living in. I think this is weird and dumb, but that's just me being an old man yelling at clouds. What's crazy is that just a few years ago a post like this would have sparked a major investigation and he'd have probably lost his offer.
