Announcement and reaction
The University of Washington has called a press conference for 2:00PM today and it appears they will announce Keith Gilbertson and his entire staff are being terminated effective season end. I work in a large office building, was downstairs having coffee and overhead some Husky fans talking. One of them asked, "hey, what about that guy at Montana State?" While not likely, it was interesting to hear Coach Kramers name come up among the populace this early.

This is a bad job right now. You have fans with super high and probably unrealistic expectations, you have a b*tch for an AD, your program has virtually no talent (compared to the rest of the Pac-10), and your program is on NCAA probation. That is a bad combination in my book. Any person who takes this job and doesn't win 10 games within maybe 2-3 years will be fired - PASS!

I agree flattering but not likely. I guess the potential to lose your coach every season is one of the hazards in Div. 1-AA football especially for someone like Kramer who is on a yearly contract and can make a huge financial gain if he steps up. I still think Kramer will be here one more season. Next year's team should be, on paper, awesome.

This was much needed. Gilby needed to be out; he's just not an effective head coach.
However, remember, UW hired Mark Emmert as the president of the university. Emmert was instrumental at LSU in pretty much single-handedly pulling Nick Saban away from Michigan State. It wasn't much longer before LSU did their work last year.
Frankly, as a UW alum, I"m obviously pissed with their performance this year. They will turn it around but it won't be for another couple of years. I only wish they could find another Don James somewhere out there......

Bozone - if by bitch, you mean Hedges, she was axed long ago.
UW has basically been given a defacto NCAA death sentence. The only difference betweent UW ans SMU is that UW actually has a fan and donar base to help them rise from the ashes. However, I doubt that UW will be any kind of factor for 6-8 years.

Yeah, that whole thing about not wanting to coach at a school who was once a major rival during your playing days is not really a factor. Players have even crossed the line during their playing days. What's the name of the Kalispell football coach?? Like Sienfeld said, "today you just root for a uniform".

Grady has become a pretty good friend of mine and has told me the whole story about his transfer from MSU to UM.
Grady originally signed with MSU because he liked Dave Arnold and was especially fond of a young coach named Mike Kramer. When Dave, Kramer et al left, things took a very negative turn for Grady.
During Grady's first meeting with new head coach Earl Solomonson, he was told that he simply wasn't the type of quarterback Earl was looking for. According to Grady, Earl essentially told him that if he didn't mind carrying a clipboard for 4 years, that Earl would honor his scholarship but that he'd never see the field.
According to Grady, he really wanted to play and believed he COULD play QB in the Big Sky. He made a call to Missoula, found out that they were still interested and that he WOULD have a decent shot at playing someday, and the rest is history...
THANK YOU EARL SOLOMONSON; MORE PROOF OF HOW BADLY YOU F#%@ED UP BOBCAT FOOTBALL. All Grady did was become one of the best QB's in griz history, and I believe was at the helm against the Cats 3 times; his record? 3 - 0. Gotta love that Earl; what a great judge of talent.
Question: HOW IN THE HELL DID WE ALLOW EARL TO COACH OUR KIDS FOR 5 YEARS?????

This may all be true etc. And Yes, he did go to UM and kick butt. However, Grady was not an OPTION QB so he didn't fit into Solomonson's system. Its easy to look back and see it didn't work out now (Monday Morning QB), but in my opinion Grady didn't fit what he was trying to install either? Was the OPTION the correct fit in the BIG SKY? HECK NO, but if your gonna run the option, you wouldn't have run it with Grady running it for you ... He was too thin/ran too upright and would have been out by game 2.

I think Pete might be the one leaving before Kramer does. I'm sure he has been getting looks as he is a VERY good defensive coach.Bleedinbluengold wrote:Perhaps the only team Karmes wouldn't coach for more money is ISU.
Personally, I couldn't think of a better fit for Krames than Boise if he were to leave for bigger pastures. The HUGE problem is that Pete would probably go with him.
