Transfer Portal: FCS-FBS
In our era of FCS guys transferring to FBS schools it makes me wonder do players have a better chance to play in the NFL if they transfer? We have seen many very talented FCS guys transfer out seeking NFL attention but rarely see that actually follow through. Is it better to dominate at the FCS level, like Troy, Hardy, NDSU, and SDSU guys, or is it better to transfer and play against better talent?

I think its different for every player. I think it was Colter that made the point, is it better to get 200 touches at the FCS level and dominate or get 30 touches and washed into the abyss.Monymony wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 9:41 amIn our era of FCS guys transferring to FBS schools it makes me wonder do players have a better chance to play in the NFL if they transfer? More than ever, its not necessarily about making it to the NFL. Valdez got a good payday transferring to Washington.
On another topic, I read today that Battle signed with Charlotte in the NBA. So, it worked out for him. Got a payday via NIL and made the league.

NIL definitely adds an element. Ifanse is a great example. Could’ve put up INCREDIBLE numbers and could’ve played in the NFL in my opinion, but he didn’t see enough of the field and it hurt his chances. I hope FCS guys start to get more respect in the draft with guys like Tucker Kraft and Christian Watson doing so well. I would be very interested to see a list of guys that transferred and got drafted.CodyCat wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 9:47 amI think its different for every player. If guys are good enough they will get drafted. Its not a respect or lack of respect for the FCS.Monymony wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 9:56 amNIL definitely adds an element. Ifanse is a great example. As for Ifanse, I disagree, I dont think he gets drafted even if he stays at MSU. He was getting up there in age to be a NFL runningback.

I think he had a far better shot at MSU than Cal. I just look at the names that have transferred out of FCS to try and make it and it seems many fall short. Toure is one of the only I can think of recently who actually made it by making the jump.CodyCat wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 10:20 amIf guys are good enough they will get drafted. Re: Transfer Portal: FCS-FBS
There are so many other factors that go into transferring. Wanting to play and experience a power five, getting closer to family, didnt like Bozeman, etc.Monymony wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 10:27 amI think he had a far better shot at MSU than Cal. Re: Transfer Portal: FCS-FBS
I think if Ifanse kept blocking punts when he went to Cal, he at least would have been in minicamp with somebody. RB1 is there to play running back. RB2 is there to play running back and special teams. RB3 and RB4 are there to play special teams.

Re: Transfer Portal: FCS-FBS
The real question, if Ifanse had stayed at MSU and had a senior season like or better then his other seasons, is he on an NFL roster?
Punters are people too!!

No. If you're good enough for the NFL they will find you whether you played in college at Alabama, Cal, MSU, Montana Tech, or any other level.

Re: Transfer Portal: FCS-FBS
In my experience, I played fbs ball and coached hs in Texas, it's more about your school, your size, then your ability. Will the nfl find you yeah they can but its easier to be found when you have all 32 teams coming through your locker room and you can be seen every Saturday on mainstream TV. A standout at an fcs school gets UDFA, a decent player at bama gets drafted in the 5-7rd. Are there isolated cases yes there are but by and large going to a p5 playing and being decent gives you a better shot.
With that said if your at the fcs level you put up really good numbers AND you have the size speed combo they're looking for you get drafted, look at jalyx hunt from HCU.
As far as transfers from fcs to fbs I haven't seen many go up and really just dominate our improve/get drafted. Now does it happen yes it does but not as much as you would think. The reason players jump to fbs is they are getting paid on the low end 50k, some are getting 250k just to transfer. These kids will graduate and have enough money to pay cash for their first house and first car, lolol. It's an investment in their future regardless of being able to go to the nfl. While it's unfortunate for many fcs teams its just the reality of college football now. Also throw in the fact that schools can actually put players on their schools payroll it makes it even harder to keep them. These decisions aren't just football/NFL based.... if it don't make dollars it don't make sense.

Unfortunately for Ifanse, he had too many miles on his body and too many injuries. So whether he stayed at MSU or went to Cal, I don’t think it mattered IMO.

Yeah, the Bobcats had a linebacker picked in the 2nd round and a D-lineman in the 7th round just a couple of years ago. There have also been quite a few free agents picks in the past few years that have made rosters as well.BobcatBuiltTexan wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 10:44 pmIn my experience, I played fbs ball and coached hs in Texas, it's more about your school, your size, then your ability. Re: Transfer Portal: FCS-FBS
I think it's happening more each year. Your chances are still greater at a bigger school. See my thing is unless you're going p5 and to a good p5i wouldn't transfer. Just going fbs isn't bringing much to the table and going lower p5 only marginally helps. This is in response to getting drafted. Now monetarily I get why going fbs or lose level p5 is done.AFCAT wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 11:01 pmYeah, the Bobcats had a linebacker picked in the 2nd round and a D-lineman in the 7th round just a couple of years ago.
