When looking at the game stats you would absolutely think the Cats won the game. Those two scoop and scores are killers. Cats probably cover the spread without those huge turnovers.

I'm not going to read through 25+ pages but in case nobody has said this yet, when the wind almost blew everyone out of the stadium someone yelled "Here comes Hurricane Tommy!"

It's usually gamesmanship but it was happening way too much. Either he was desperate to mess with us, is an a$$hole, or they have a couple guys that play both ways.

Usually this happens if an offensive player and a defensive player with the same number are both on a special teams unit. Sometimes teams will just have one of the players switch jersey numbers for the game or season...it's why Tommy switched from #4 to #16 as a freshman since James Campbell, the defense #4 was also playing special teams.

I have not watched the replay yet so a few questions:

No sacks. That is alarming.
Why was Myles kicking?
A friend said our DB'S looked terrible. True?
Did White play at RB?
No sacks isn't really alarming considering the size of their ol. We got decent pressure and we actually held up ok against the run. We weren't getting mauled and we didn't get a huge push. I see them being fine from here on out. Plus their qb was extremely elusive, I don't think we'll see a qb that has this kind of elusivity the rest of the year.

Dbs didn't look terrible. They weren't great but they were in coverage. Cbs weren't getting ran by but a lot if that was because we were bailing out playing a cover 3 concept or cover 4 concept. The time I saw press man we did very well. They drive down hill and made decent open field tackles, from the cb spot. They do need to improve but it wasn't atrocious. Safeties need work. Our tackling angles are off when they don't get a jump on the ball, that screams lack of speed. On deep passes they got lost a couple of times. In one play saw a cb get lost once as well... all correctable. Again not terrible but yeah they need work in the middle of the field
Kaiden Bennett of Sac State is almost a clone of Dampier, but a better passer.
Gotcha.... just asking cause I don't know.... does he have similar talent at the skill position? Cause they will definitely be a problem.
Lost a solid TE but they do have some good WRs, including an All-Conference guy. Returned RBs 2, 3 and 4 from last year. #2 ran us over pretty good. Also returned 5 OL who started at least half their games last year.

They also were mentioning that Bronco makes players earn their number. Maybe he was demoting them in game lol. I’m pretty sure a DB was wearing #77.

Was at the game. Wild ride in the hot sun. When we didn't convert a first down with 5-6 minutes left I thought it was over. Fantastic comeback. UNM fans (the few that were there) were mostly gracious. We give up two defensive scores (hopefully the last of the season) don't force any turnovers (except the last play of the game which had no effect) and still come out on top against an (albeit mediocre) FBS opponent. Played a bad first half offensively, still wound up with nearly 600 yards. It was not easy, but a great start to the season.

I noticed that, too. Thought it was really odd for a DB to be wearing a number normally reserved for OL....

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

Yup. He was the one that couldn't catch Adam Jones on the 93-yard run.

Really a tremendous win. Classic Vigen win. Wear em down all game and sink their ship in the 4th. Defense played pretty dang good in the second half. Bronco mentioned they didn’t score an offensive point in the 2nd half.

Obviously a ton to work on. But winners win. Onto the next!

I just checked their online roster. In addition to the cornerback wearing #77, they have two QBs wearing #87 and #99. All perfectly legal numbers but very odd to see!

Yes.
Don’t know. Haven’t heard why yet just heard ahead of time that Kautzman wasn’t kicking.
Yes they did. Caden had glimpses of plays but wasn’t consistent.
Thought I saw him once or twice but could be mistaken. Don’t remember him with a carry need to check box score.

No defensive pressure by MSU was a cause for concern for me.
Don't know either
Lots of ugly DB penalties early in the game
Yes, I saw White on 1 or 2 carries.

*A bit of an ugly win, but I loved how the Cats hung in there, and the coaches have a good opportunity to coach-up from game film this week.
Lots to clean up but a Bobcat win is always a good day. Hopefully the coaches clean up some play calling. Same complaints with that as last year. Last drive might be an indication of lessons learned…fingers crossed that lesson is learned and remembered
Good thing Vigen wasn’t fired at halftime of week zero…

Mentioned it before the game, but I did end up making a nominal $20 bet on New Mexico at +13.5 because it seemed ridiculously high but was not expecting to be down 21 in the 4th. Bought victory steaks on the way home and eating them with my wife was the end of a perfect first day of football season.

What a win!

I think that's the effect of the "earning your numbers" thing. They were probably the last guys to get their numbers so they got those odd numbers for their position...I bet they work hard next year to get those numbers earlier lolol
