Another good I did not see mentioned is the play of Bryce Grebe. RS freshmen has been great. Really good in coverage.

The package where we went wildcat with Tommy as the split back is going to be tremendously fun. So many options, so much eye candy for the defense. Very difficult to defend.

Good: o-line depth continues to be a strength. Despite a patched-together line, these guys are still creating good running lanes. Rohan Jones us a freaking stud! All our RBs are just plain filthy - stick any one of them in the backfield and we don't miss a beat. Defense showed out last night!

Bad: passing game is nowhere near where it should be. Tommy is a 4-year starter at QB and his pocket presence has not developed. Some of this comes from playcalling; some of it comes from the style of play we have asked of Tommy. But taking sacks, throwing off his back foot under pressure, etc. is kind of worrisome at this point. We have a stable of highly talented WRs and we need to figure out how to get the ball to them.

Ugly: kicking game. I know most are putting this in the Bad category, but let's face it - it's atrocious. And we were told this was a point of emphasis during the off-season and in fall camp. It lost us crucial games last year, and showing no signs of improvement. Tommy being in the game in the 4th quarter. Up 24-0, and UT absolutely pathetic on offense, that game was well in hand before Tommy dove in for the TD and came out hurting. I don't care less if it was just cramps - coaches need to take better care of the players, especially when you're talking about your team's best player and considering the hot temps they were dealing with. I have not been disappointed with Vigen during his tenure until that point.
Starting kicker is out, and from everything I've heard - once he gets back there will be much more consistency there than last season. I doubt many teams in the country have backup kickers that can come in and not skip a beat.
True, but as I mentioned in another thread, this is not all on the kicker. Some of these woes are on the line as well.
That’s just untrue. The opposing lines on FG attempts are not getting a noticeable bigger push than other teams give up on kicks. The kicking game as of now is a wild card but hopefully when Kautzman gets healthy he can be consistent up to 45 yards.

the other untrue is the place kick and field goal was not settled when season started. it was settled by injury.

As painful as it was listening to the Utah Tech announcer, I would still rather listen to him than that giz homer Marty Mountsapig.
who is this marty you speak of? i always leave the gris broadcasts on mute.
Is that the local Otis from Mayberry? Does he drink too much?
I tried to google him once and the thing that popped up most was someone called Martini Morningswig. Perhaps that is his full name, it sure sounded and looked like him. hicc :suds: up

Good: The defense.
Bad: The passing gam
Ugly: The Bobcat uniform combination. A few of the O Linemen looked like they were wearing dark blue diapers pulled up to their armpits. All in all they looked to me as if someone packed the wrong pants.

You know who really played well but didn’t get a lot of recognition from what I saw is the Utah Tech defense. Statistically at least, as they held MSU to 5.9 per carry and about 6.0 per play. Held the RBs to 5.0 per carry. They didn’t miss a lot of tackles.

I and my wife also commented on the Uni combo when they came out. A collective “what are they wearing?”

I'd like to see them just stick with the all white look for road games, I love the white helmet and it looks better with white jerseys than blue. Keep wearing the traditional gold helmets at home with either the gold or blue pants.

Bryce Grebe went PD, tackle, PD on UT’s second to last drive of the half.

I love that Bryce switched numbers to Brody's old #10. I think there's also a very, very good chance that Bryce will also be #41 in a few years.

Highly likely especially based on that set of downs. I recall Adam Cordeiro having a set of downs with three tackles and two were for a loss, or something like that.

The ugly is that dark, dingy, PA system reverberating, poor excuse for a stadium. That place makes UNC and PSUs stadiums look like the Taj Mahal, at least on TV.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen long shadows on a field during a night game.
In person, it’s not a bad little stadium. Lighting certainly needs upgrading. And ADA seating is in the basement.

Interesting having a D-1 program with 20 dancers, about 25 cheerleaders, and an enormous marching band of … 25. That doesn’t include the six flaggers and six directors. Felt sorry for the band at halftime.
Its Utah. Surprising that the dance/cheer squad was that small.

MSU passing into the flat and to the sideline is working well and should only get better. They have already had a lot of good plays right after completions. It really spreads the field out and should open things up downfield as they get more of it on tape for other teams to get sucked into.

You also need to take into account how much they were on the field and how gassed they were getting.
