Griz versus the UND Fighting Hawks
Vegas line has Griz as 4.5 point favorites. I think this is going to be a good game. I was impressed by what I saw from UND versus Iowa State for the most part. If the Griz have another game where they drop a bunch of easy passes, and over pursue and play too aggressively on defense, they'll get beat. We'll see if they get all that cleaned up.
Great time to be a BOBCAT!

Re: Griz versus the UND Fighting Hawks
UND tried to run the ball a lot and slow the game down against Iowa State, which succeeded in keeping the score down but not much else. I think the Griz win this one by 10 unless they make a bunch of mistakes early on that allow UND to build a lead they can protect.

Re: Griz versus the UND Fighting Hawks
If the 3 starters are out again this game, especially Bergen, I'm thinking griz lose. Wasn't really impressed with what I did watch of their last game. Granted, it was their first game, but UND has been pretty dominant at home. Griz also play better at home.

Re: Griz versus the UND Fighting Hawks
I'm going with UND on this one. I don't think the Griz quarterbacks will respond well to playing in Grand Forks as it's a tough environment (at least it was the last time I watched the Bobcats play there). Seems like the FCS talkers are big on Montana on this one but I just don't see it. The same talking heads are forecasting that Incarnate Word will give SDSU a very close game and that one is a head scratcher for me.

Re: Griz versus the UND Fighting Hawks
Und has been pretty tough at home in recent years so no matter who is healthy for the griz it'll be a tough game.
I think the griz will win a close one, but GO HAWKS!

Does not seem like UND is showing up for this one.

Re: Griz versus the UND Fighting Hawks
Riley Corcoran is supposed to be this amazing play caller. This weekend I was an unfortunate casualty of a fall wedding so I had to skip attending the game. We left the wedding and I listen to last few minutes of the Cats first half. Switched over to the gris game during the half because it was nearing its conclusion and holy crap… the griz could have a play where they lose a yard and by his reaction you would think the RB ran for 20 yards. He orgasms over every single thing the Gris do so much that it’s hard to really understand what’s going on in the game. As much he’s rubbing one out you’d thought the Gris scored 2 TDs instead of missed a potential game tying FG.

Re: Griz versus the UND Fighting Hawks
I didn't see any of this one, but there's something about the box score that I find utterly confusing.
Griz RB's in the first half:14 carries for 123 yards (8.8 YPC)
Griz RB's in the second half: 3 carries for 10 yards
How does that happen? I understand abandoning the run if you're down three scores, but the Griz were up 17 coming out of the half. Seems like the offensive staff kind of gave the game away.
One other interesting trend:
If my numbers are right from the play-by-play, Ah Yat was 4/10 for 9 yards and took 3 sacks in the second half. That would mean that in the first half he was 17/19 for 136 yards and a TD.
Last week, he started with 5 straight completions to open the game and then finished the first half going something like 5/13. He got benched after a costly fumble to start the second half.
It seems like he's able to start games effectively when things are scripted for him but once it becomes less pre-determined he starts to fall apart. We will see if he can round into form as the season progresses. To be fair, he played effectively deeper into this game than against Missouri State so he may be on the right track. Last year, the Griz season was rescued by Clifton McDowell's excellence in relief of Vidlak. It's unclear whether Hauck has anything like that in his back pocket this time around.

Re: Griz versus the UND Fighting Hawks
Looking at the play by play the Griz didn't do much of anything in the second half until they were behind.
UND scored, 24-14.
Griz went 3 and out (run, pass, pass)
UND scored again, 24-21
Griz went 3 and out (sack, pass, sack)
UND kicked a FG, 24-24
Griz went 3 and out (run, run, pass)
UND kicked a FG, 27-24
By that point there was only 2 minutes left and running wasn't really an option any more.

Re: Griz versus the UND Fighting Hawks
Yeah, and I read in the AP recap that UND's last two drives combined took almost 15 minutes off the clock. UND staff pulled all the right levers in the second half...MSU01 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 7:56 amLooking at the play by play the Griz didn't do much of anything in the second half until they were behind.

Re: Griz versus the UND Fighting Hawks
Looks like two contrasting halves. UND seems to have made adjustments and "slammed the door" on the gris. Or gris coaching really messed the bed.Lord Vigo wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 7:07 amI didn't see any of this one, but there's something about the box score that I find utterly confusing.

Wasn't last weeks qb play just the opposite, Fife coming on to, so to speak, save the day.
Only 11000+ in attendance.
Isn't next week a cake walk for them?

I also heard they were without Bergen again. And Meyer went out in the 2nd half with an injury. Totally a game of halves though. UND made adjustments griz did not.

Re: Griz versus the UND Fighting Hawks
The Griz could brush this off as being their NAU game from 2023. What should be worrisome is that they lost the way they did. A year ago it was a sloppy loss with NAU getting 21 of 28 points off turnovers. This time they got outplayed over the last three quarters. They were missing a few good players and they have a good amount of time to turn things around. They’re 4-6 in last ten road games. Beat Utah Tech, Portland State, Idaho and UC Davis (w/o Larison). They have a very easy road schedule until playing MSU.
MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Re: Griz versus the UND Fighting Hawks
Always a great day to be a Bobcat, but especially when we are celebrating a win and the gris lose.
Anyone slid over to egriz to see the melt down? I am sure that UND will be playing for the chipper, see them in the semis, etc according to their fans.
UND has had a good program the past couple years. Will want to keep an eye on them this year.

Just a little thing I noticed while driving by Missoula yesterday. Even fishermen support their opponents. Saw a boat sporting und in fairly prominent letters. They did disguise it a little bit by putting an L in front of it. I'm not sure what the L stands for.
