2024 Imperialism Maps

Post by TIrwin24 » Tue Sep 03, 2024 4:02 pm

Updated FCS imperialism map following week 0.

Reminder, this is NOT a map of fan support.

Each county (or county equivalent) was initially assigned to the FCS team with closest stadium measured "as the crow flies" from the geographic center of the county.

After each week, winning teams takeover all the land of the team they beat that week. However, if the losing team had no land to lose, no land is exchanged.

After looking at the Cats area, I saw UNCU. They own the largest area.

Owned*. UIW owns that area now. SDSU will own it after this weekend.

Okay, since MSU won the NM portion on the FBS imperialism map, does that mean they will own it all year if they win out? After all, there is no way for another FBS team to take it from them.

I was thinking we pretty much have it locked for the year regardless, but maybe they would transfer it to another FCS team if they beat us. The Cats winning threw a bit of a wrench in the concept of a strictly FBS imperialism map

I will say though, our logo looks pretty good displayed amongst the rest of the FBS schools. We should make that a habit 8)

This was discussed on Reddit. Maine plays Oklahoma in November so if they beat us and then lost to them then Oklahoma would get the NM territory. So yes, we'll have that portion of the FBS map for the rest of the season.

Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

Actually what was said was that it would would almost certainly remain an FCS holding for the rest of the year. If we get beat by another FCS team they take over the New Mexico territory on the FBS map. So MSU has to win out to stay on that map.

...and since Mercyhurst lost their county last weekend, the Cats can't gain anything for a while.

I'm gonna date myself here, but I am assuming this map is based somewhat similarly to the game of Risk? Explained in those terms, then I get the concept -

I give it a very, very low chance but if ISU could win this week against UND and next against SUU the game in 3 weeks against the Cats would be for a crap load of territory.

I love how Weber State has most of Alaska but Drake has the very northern part of it. And UC Davis has only the westernmost island of Hawaii.

Correct. You own the surrounding counties nearest to you to start the year. If you beat an opponent, (FCS) you capture their territory and any territory the opponent gained by their victories in prior weeks. If you lose, they capture yours. A team will capture/lose territory as they win/lose games throughout the season.

This thing is one of the dumbest deals out there . You can lose ground because someone won a more current game in that area. It really seems to make no sense.

You don’t lose ground if you don’t lose a game. It’s just for fun and means absolutely zero. You gain ground by beating a team that owns ground. No opportunity to gain ground this weekend for MSU since ISU owns no ground. Same with next weekend. UNC owns no land and plays Poly who also owns no land.
Next opportunity to gain ground is to take Idaho’s (unless Idaho loses to Davis).

There's no losing ground unless you lose. Every school starts the season with the counties they're closest too - beat a team, win their land. But if the team you're playing lost all their land in a previous game, there's nothing left to take over.
