I'm just curious to those that think the Cats should be #2 can you explain why? I'm genuinely curious because I think they are either 3 or 1. You can correctly drop um a spot due to squeaking out a win at home versus a bottom MVFC team. Are you dropping SDSU because they really didn't compete in their play-up game? Are you saying polls should be about this season now, not hanging on to results from the last season?
no polls matter until after cat gris game
This is totally wrong. One of the metrics the committee uses is ranked and then ranked wins. In order to have rankings you have to have polls. They matter.

I voted in the reddit FCS poll and put the top 5 at:
MSU
UM
SDSU
NDSU
Villanova
The committee treats FBS losses as the same as FCS losses, judging from the seeding in 2022. MSU and UM haven't lost and SDSU and NDSU did.

Especially since a lot of voters don't watch the games and just tweak the last poll of the previous season for the preseason poll and then move teams up and down based on wins and losses as the season moves along. If we were to go into Cat-griz #7 and win, we aren't jumping up to 2 or 3. One of the teams has to be top 3 and the other has to be probably top 5 or 6 for the winner to end up in the top 2 after the game.

Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

#3

I got the polls mixed around. The second one, the stats poll, should be the official one.

The SP+ predictions from Bill Connelly are really interesting. It shows the CATS (and the griz) are ranked ahead of all but 3 Mountain West schools. Very close to Fresno and UNLV, with Boise State the only one much higher ranked.

But which poll do they look at? Just one? All of them? A poll of polls? How much weight do the polls carry?

The coaches poll, as it now sits, could have NDSU at 1 and SDSU at 2 if the Bison beat the Jacks and neither lose another game regardless of whether anyone else goes undefeated.

The committee has stated that the Stats poll is the official poll but that the coaches poll carries some weight. Which is a joke.

Massey has SDSU, CATS, gris and NDSU. Villanova is #5? Thoughts on Villanova. Thanks

I think Presbyterian loves this polls they are not near the bottom, 409 I think. One spot above them is giveusMercyhurst.

I think Nova is a very good team, and is going to be the benefit of the scheduling headache in the CAA this year. They avoid Elon, Rhode Island, Richmond, Albany (who I don't think is good this year) and William & Mary. Toughest conference games will be Delaware, New Hampshire and Towson. 10-2 should be really manageable for them.

I don't think MSU is the #1 team but it does look weird have two 0-1 teams above a 2-0 team, especially when one of those wins was FBS.

FCS poll is weird, half of the top 25 is 0-1.

I’ll say; Cats should be ranked higher. 2-0 and a significant comeback win over an FBS school.

And while I realize the early season polls are all about what a team did last year; it should be about the games played this rear.

griz fans; keeping it classy and gracious in winning since ... well, never.

The Cats jump over the friz to #3 in the polls. AND they got 4 first place votes in one poll and 8 in another! I don't think we got a single first place vote last year.
I thought Missouri State and Abelene Christian would have polled better. ACU almost beat Texas Tech -- they went for two for the win (like we should have done against NDSU), but could have kicked the PAT for a tie.
The FCS stats show the top two rushers in the nation are both MSU Bobcats.
I want Taco to continue outperforming Junior this year!

I guess that my question was why #2? Which xDSU are you putting them above and which one below. You could argue #1 being 2-0 and the only FCS over FBS winner. Or argue #3 because SDSU and NDSU shouldn't move down despite losing to FBS Power 4 teams. But #2 is weird and a couple posters put them there.

Feels indicative of the group of voters who don't watch versus those that do. Some saw NDSU and SDSU struggle against poor teams and rightfully dropped them a little but the ones who just see they won keep them #1 and #2. They both looked extremely vulnerable Saturday.

Not sure how good Albany is but Idaho looks really good Saturday. Glad we have them at home this year.

I think when the season is over the Albany and Wyoming wins won't really be good wins except the FBS moniker. The committee will see the Albany as a then ranked win but Albany won't be ranked at the end of the season (although the CAA is absolute hot garbage so maybe they get enough to hang in there). Wyoming is very likely a 0-12 or 1-11 team.

Hopefully the Vandals keep winning so when they visit the Cat's they are a top 3 team that will be a big win for MSU but their schedule is:
@ACU
@UCDavis
vs NAU
@MSU

I bet they go .500 or worse over the next month. Davis has owned them the last few years and I think the Cats win by multiple scores. Abilene Christian is no pushover and neither is NAU.

How Chattanooga is still ranked at this point is beyond me. They have looked horrible to start...
