Apologize if it has been discussed in detail already , but how is Sac State ranked in the top 25 with a losing record?

They're 2-1 against the FCS. 2 of their losses are to MWC teams.cat22[2010] wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 1:26 pmApologize if it has been discussed in detail already , but how is Sac State ranked in the top 25 with a losing record?

Re: Weekly poll
The Augustana win. In the eyes of the committee SDSU is 3-1 because the D-2 doesn't count. And UIW while being a ranked win shouldn't have more weight than beating an FBS unless that FBS is absolutely terrible which I believe UNM will win a few games in MWC over the next few weeks. Cats are 6-0 vs D-1BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 1:19 pmIt might be a problem, but how would polls ever exist before week 5 or 6 without some info from last year? You're right about ranked wins being meaningless if a team goes 3-9. The Albany win doesn't do crap for Idaho now, but the UIW win is still a good win for SDSU, and it will be in 6 weeks too. The committee has always said FBS losses don't hurt a school, so why should SDSU be below us when they have played a better schedule (at least FCS wise) than we have, with a ranked FCS win, and started above us? Once we have that ranked win though, we should absolutely jump them. We won't, but we should.tetoncat wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 1:12 pmTherin lies the problem.what happened last year should have no bearing on this year's polls. Griz started out high because of that with people forgetting they lost 8 or 9 starters on defense. SDSU has a lot back so maybe justified, but they list. As the defending champs, they get the benefit of the doubt when their only loss is to a P4 team. If/when we win this weekend, I would put us above them though. The winner of the Marker in 2 weeks will be #1 barring any other losses until at least the 11/11 poll. The loser should be #2 or #3 depending on what happens with our game Saturday.tetoncat wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 12:45 pmI would buy the NDSU argument, so why is SDSU higherBleedingBLue wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 12:12 pmNDSU has 2 ranked wins against the current #9 and #16 teams in which they destroyed them. Their FBS loss is also to a P4 team that is currently 4-1. If I had a vote, they would be my #1 right now. Combined record of NDSU opponents this year 21-13. They have a top 10 SOS as of right now. Cats combined opponent record is 9-26 and we have an SOS in the 70s. It will all shake out by the end of week 13.Bobcat Sig wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 11:55 amI've said it before and I'll say it again; MSU has an FBS win and NDSU has an FBS loss and yet, we continue to be ranked below them. That's dumb and these pollsters should feel bad about that.
My top 10
#1 NDSU
#2 SDSU
#3 MSU
#4 USD
#5 UC-Davis
#6 Idaho
#7 Nova
#8 Mercer
#9 SEMO
#10 Tarleton
Right now as the rankings sit, the Cats have a shot at 4 ranked wins (UI, Sac, Davis, UM) with 2 of those being top 10 along with an FBS win. SDSU has a shot at one extra ranked win (UIW, ISU, UND, SDU, NDSU), NDSU has only 4 ranked win opportunities. So if the Cats go undefeated they should be the #1 and not have to host either of the xDSU's until Frisco, especially if SDSU wins the marker but has that non-counter on their record.
I will point out to that style points help. I know BV is classy but if we are up on any of those four ranked teams we should keep the gas on.

Re: Weekly poll
NDSU already has 2 ranked wins over Il State and UND. If they beat USD and SDSU that would be 4 and I think Towson has a good chance at being ranked by season's end, so that would give them 5 now ranked wins. The Cats, if we win out, would have 4 ranked wins and an FBS. SOS may be the deciding factor for the seeds in that case. If it were to happen, a 12-0 BSC team should absolutely be #1, but we all know how the biases work.Prodigal Cat wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 2:26 pmThe Augustana win. 12-0 if it happens with no other undefeated teams is a #1 seed. Lots of games to play, though. None bigger than 8pm this Saturday night.

Re: Weekly poll
Not accurate. For sure that would guarantee either a #1 or #2, but whichever DSU wins their matchup, if they also don't lose another game other than the FBS one they already lost, they are probably #1 and I think I agree with that.

Re: Weekly poll
Does it really matter if we're 1 or 2? They are going to put NDSU and SDSU on opposite sides no matter what. We will probably have to beat them both to win the championship.

Personally I don't care whether we're #1 or #2, as long as it's one of em! Being at home until Frisco is absolutely HUGE.seataccat wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 8:54 pmDoes it really matter if we're 1 or 2? They are going to put NDSU and SDSU on opposite sides no matter what. Re: Weekly poll
Let's face it an undefeated season is a really tall order. If we slip up against Idaho, UCD or UM. We will most likely have to beat one of the DSU teams on the road and that is extremely hard. With Tommy being a senior and healthy I think we are equal to the DSU. This has got to be our year.catatac wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 9:01 pmPersonally I don't care whether we're #1 or #2, as long as it's one of em! I guess don't do polls until 3 or 4 weeks into season. Then base it on how a team is playing.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 1:19 pmIt might be a problem, but how would polls ever exist before week 5 or 6 without some info from last year? Re: Weekly poll
You are spot on here. Super tough to win all 12... it takes a really good, strong minded team where everyone works together and rises up, overcomes adversity, etc. We haven't really been tested since UNM but I liked what I saw in that game. We'll be favored in all our six remaining games from here on out but we all know that doesn't mean anything. I still maintain though, that if we do pull it off we are home throughout - which as you say is absolutely critical to not have to travel to Fargo or Brookings.seataccat wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 9:33 pmLet's face it an undefeated season is a really tall order. We haven't played anyone that can stay with us. Pollsters and press bash the schedule all the time. But UNM is better than Wyoming this year. Maine beat Albany on road by 14, Albany that Idaho gets credit for beating at home. Abilene Christian beat UNC by 2 at buzzer while losing to Idaho by 3 at home.catatac wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2024 10:52 amYou are spot on here. Re: Weekly poll
Craig Haley lashes out on twitter about how people treat him and say fanbases take it serious but the guy deserves it sometimes. This week they talk about National Title contenders. Gary says how its NDSU and SDSU and Craig jumps in and declares Idaho and Montana as the teams from the Big Sky and then the CAA. They spend more time talking about the Marker which isn't till next week. Then the game of the week is.... Nichols @ UIW. What? Craig is a hack and is just terrible at his job.

Their choice will be two 2-loss MVFC teams before MSU. Not trying to be a downer, that's just my prediction.
