Maybe this has been addressed but the roof doesn't look nearly high enough for punting but is it high enough for PK'ing?

I’m sure someone has the dimensions but when I went by today, I was amazed how huge this structure is. The pictures do not do justice to the size <insert ‘that’s what she said’ joke here>.

The ceiling is 70'. Punters, however, don't spend a lot of time punting at practice. You can only spend so much time punting or kicking, like around 200 per week. (My original answer was going to be Hall graduates this year or they would've built the IPF last year)

I suppose it’s possible for a punter to hit the upper structure of the facility as its happened before inside NFL facilities. A punter even hit the suspended jumbotron at the Cowboys AT&T Stadium during a game. This will likely become a challenge for the punters.

I did the math on this somewhere earlier in the thread and no, they won't be able to punt in the IPF without hitting the ceiling. Unless we decide to bring back the good old Travis Lulay "roll punt", of course. I'd imagine a lot of punting practice is done into nets anyway to reduce the amount of time spent chasing down balls all over the place.

I posted this a while back in this thread. Gives you an idea of how tall the structure actually is. Now, that 70 foot peak is the outside of the structure, not the inside. Kickers won’t hit the ceiling, but a punter could.

I got to thinking about the indoor facility and how large it is. The peak of the indoor roof is 70' high. It's tough to gauge how high 70 feet is, so I was trying to come up with something to compare it to. I'm not exactly sure how high the press box and West grandstands are, but I would guess in the 80 foot range. I found an article that stated the stadium lights are 110 feet high. Then, I thought about the new scoreboard and its relation to the field. If I'm reading this plan correctly, the scoreboard itself is about 68' 9" high at the top of the audio cabinet. So, the indoor in relation to the playing surface will be slightly higher than the top of the scoreboard audio cabinet in Bobcat Stadium.

Image

90' 8" field level is the starting point to the 149' 11" top of scoreboard roof equals 59' 3", plus 9' 6" tall audio cabinet equals a total height of 68' 9". Did I do that correctly? I don't read plans for a living.

Yes, the punters will hit the ceiling. The main point I’m trying to make is that it isn’t imperative that the roof be high enough for punters. They can only get about 200 reps per week. As for punt returners, they get most of their reps off a machine that simulates punts. They shouldn’t need to practice either of these things very much indoors. Since it’s just practice they can punt the ball into the ceiling. The only things that they won’t be able to do are field punts off the foot of a punter and punt the ball without it hitting the ceiling. They can calibrate the punt machine to not hit the ceiling.

Five roofing sections up as of just now. Moving fast!

Note: I'm counting a section as a span between major beams where yesterday's pictures look like two sections.

It is a cute little intermural facility.

Awesome. Thanks for posting these.

Is that the whole roof? Or are their sections left to hang up?

It looks dangerous to be inside of and a little claustrophobic.

I was at the ISU game 10 or so days ago, the highest portion of their Quonset hut is listed at 89 feet. I am guessing that to be as outside dimension. Inside there is a catwalk and basketball scoreboard. Hall almost hit the ceiling more than once.

I was going to comment on it looking like a McDonalds bounce house, but I will refrain from bringing that into the conversation :D :D :D

Now, it is a nice build :-^ :-^ :-^ but I thought our 2006 Honda Accord LXI was nice and then I parked it next to a 2024 Corvette z06.

This is from wikipedia. From the playing surface to the top of the structure is 109 feet. Obviously, the ceiling is below that 109' height.

"Holt Arena is recessed twenty feet (6 m) below grade and rises 89 feet (27 m) above grade at its highest point."

So, it would be pretty easy for them to bulldoze the whole thing into that hole, bring in some fill dirt to cover the debris, and build a real field on top of it all?

Just a suggestion.

Looks like some significant gaps to finish still but it is amazing how much they accomplished in just three days. At this rate, they could have it completely enclosed soon, but that is dependent on the weather and if they have the building material coming in on time.
