Re: Weekly poll
New media poll is out too, Cats are still #3 but picked up four additional first-place votes compared to last week. MSU picked up one additional first place vote in the coaches poll.

No matter who wins, an 8-0 Cats team, one with an FBS win and a top 10 win will absolutely be #2.
#1 seed in the playoffs.
MSU controls its own destiny for the #2 seed, but needs whatever team loses the marker to take another loss to sew up the #1 seed.

What an absolute dream of a bracket that would be. MSU at #1 and NDSU, SDSU, USD all on the other side of the bracket. Somehow I doubt the committee would ever let that happen!RootinfortheCats wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 11:23 amHerder thinks it’s possible:onceacat wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 10:24 pmA DSU team with 1 FBS loss is in all likelihood going to get the nod over a 12-0 MSU team. Re: Weekly poll
If the Cats win out I think it’s the most likely scenario. The committee will not overlook an undefeated BSC team with an FBS win. There is a good chance the Cats will also have 3 top 10 wins as well (UCD and um).MSU01 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 11:28 amWhat an absolute dream of a bracket that would be. Re: Weekly poll
My biggest issue with SDSU still being number 1, is that it's clearly based on last year. NDSU has 3 now ranked wins, SDSU has 1 and the Cats have 1 + an FBS win. It should really be NDSU, MSU, SDSU right now. Doesn't really matter as the loser of the Marker will be #3 next week as long as the Cats win Saturday. And the winner will be #1.

Re: Weekly poll
Is there a possibility that if the Marker is a blowout that the loser drops by more than that? Say NDSU wins by 20, could SDSU drop below USD?BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 4:49 pmMy biggest issue with SDSU still being number 1, is that it's clearly based on last year. I'd say that's definitely possible. Maybe fall as low as 5 with Nova moving ahead of them too. Nobody has good resumes though because the CAA is so huge, and both the BSC and MVFC are beating each other up worse than usual.technoCat wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 5:00 pmIs there a possibility that if the Marker is a blowout that the loser drops by more than that? Re: Weekly poll
And this is the problem with voters, even ones "in the know." I'm unsure how SDSU's win over UIW is more impressive than the Cats win over Idaho + FBS win. They have a good win over NAU, and no other good wins. Also have a loss to a bad SIU team.

Re: Weekly poll
It's more likely that the team delivering the blowout will be considered even better than previously thought and it will be impossible to unseat them while the losing team only drops down to 3 because everyone assumes there is a clear top 3 and then the next tier starts after a significant gap. I doubt more than a handful of voters will really think one DSU getting blown out against the other DSU means it is at or below the level of a USD/Nova.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 5:03 pmI'd say that's definitely possible. Re: Weekly poll
Agreed, but I'd say it's more likely, though not probable, if SDSU loses because they haven't beat anybody but UIW this year, and struggled with DII Augustana.coloradocat wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 6:04 pmIt's more likely that the team delivering the blowout will be considered even better than previously thought and it will be impossible to unseat them while the losing team only drops down to 3 because everyone assumes there is a clear top 3 and then the next tier starts after a significant gap. Mercer has been one of the most impressive teams in the FCS in my opinion. They're giving up 7.66 points per game. I don't care what schedule you have played (all FCS schedule), that's damn good. I'd have them 5th right now.

Cat fans with their persecution complex conveniently forget that an undefeated Sac State team got the #2 seed over the 2 loss NDSU...and NDSU with its 3 point loss on the road to SDSU & a 2 point loss to FBS Arizona got the nod over MSU with its beatdown in Corvallis.
The committee 100% got it 100% correct in 2022 and they will follow the EXACT same logic in 2024.
A 1 loss DSU will get the #1 seed over an undefeated BSC team. And an undefeated BSC team will get the #2 seed over a 2 loss DSU. And a 2 loss DSU will ALWAYS get the nod over a 2 loss BSC team (can only be Davis or UM this year).
Seedings are REALLY predictable and its REALLY rare to see them vary from some really basic rules.
And MSU has universally been treated far more generously by the seeding committee than most any other team in the FCS.
People need to get a grip and remember what actually happened in 2022.
You're welcome to your opinion but you're in the minority. There is no persecution complex, its not that hard to look at the resumes and conclude that MSU deserved to be seeded above ndsu that year.
Jamie Williams who has a vote said as the bracket went live that the Cats got absolutely screwed, Herder said as much also and coach Vigen was livid. This isn't just a Cats fan misremembering or persecution thing. It was a screw job.

And, 100%, the committee was trying to keep both the DSUs AND the 2 Big Sky co-champs on opposite sides of the brackets.
But it's not even remotely close to a concept of a 'screw' job, because theres ZERO difference between a #4 seed and a #3 seed. Unless you think that the #2 seed is somehow significantly worse than the #1 seed, in which case it's really the #3 seed that got the screw job.
Putting the Cats as #3 or as #4 was totally justifiable, and only 'screwed' the Cats becsuse the Cats laid a total egg in Brookings. It's not the committees fault that the Cats showed unprepared and uninterested in playing that game.
As it pertains to the whole discussion: An undefeated Big Sky team IS NOT going to drop below a 2 loss DSU school. And even if you think the Cats deserved the #3 seed (reasonable, but far from obvious), the results of 2022 PROVE that the committee will not put a 2 loss DSU team above an undefeated Big Sky team.
