I like how this is shaping up. It's clear that at the moment we have to win all our remaining games to stay top two, we also propably have to beat everyone except perhaps UCD solidly. Really helps with the 1-0 mentality and not having any letdowns. I will be at EWU game and really looking forward to an eags beatdown.

Next week, on the 30th, the playoff committee puts out their ranking. This will be after SDSU plays USD, so should be a good indication of how they view MSU relative to the Dakota Schools.

I am getting so damn sick of this persecution complex Bobcat fans have. The committee is not out to get us. An undefeated MSU will always be ranked higher than an XDSU with a loss. If we keep curb stomping teams, we will have homefield in the playoffs. I am beyond certain of that

Yes, I think the committee will value a conference champion. I think it would take a 2 loss difference to change that. i.e. Missouri Valley and Big Sky conference champions will get 1 and 2 seeds, unless that champion has 2 losses vs. FCS, in which case an team from one of those conferences that somehow happened to be undefeated vs. FCS might get the two seed. Remember that Committee is a very different group with a very different process than the Stats poll.

Heh, well... The committee may not be out to get us, but history is a great teacher here and it has not been kind to our Cats. Further, there's no reason to believe that will be changing any time soon.

Look at last year's bracket, and specifically UM and USD. That will tell you all you need to know about the possibilities this year.

Yes - The final brackets lean heavily to the Top Teams in the MVFC/Big Sky. JMU is an outlier and the CAA is weak and would never get a top 2 or even a top 4 seed in my mind. I think it is clear a Big Sky Champion with 0 or 1 FCS loss will get the number 2 seed. And no, UM did not get a better deal last year with 1 FCS loss. There was no tie for Big Sky title and NDSU had 3 losses so was not in the running for a top seed. 10 of the last 12 Top 4 seeds are from MVFC or Big Sky and ALWAYS include the champion of the conference.

2023
#1 SDSU (conference champion- No FCS loss)
#2 UM (conference champion - 1 FCS loss)
#3 USD (MVFC runner up - 1 FCS loss)
#4 Idaho (Big Sky runner up - 2 FCS losses)

2022
#1 SDSU (MVFC conference champion - NO FCS Loss)
#2 Sac State (Big Sky Co-Champion - No FCS loss)
#3 NDSU (MVFC runner up - 1 FCS loss)
#4 MSU (Big Sky Co-Champoin - No FCS Loss)

2021
#1 SHSU (Wac Champion - Clear Mistake by Committee - No FCS Loss)
#2 NDSU (MVFC Champion - 1 FCS Loss)
#3 JMU (CAA Champion - 1 FCS Loss)
#4 Sac (Big Sky Champion - No FCS Loss but 2 FBS Losses)

I think unfortunately even if the cats win out, along with the Dakota schools, the cats are a 3 seed in the eyes of the committee until they prove they can beat the DSU’s on the road. May not be right but is what it is.
There is a roughly 0% chance that a committee will ever put a 2 loss MVFC team above an undefeated Big Sky team.

This is absurd.

Especiall when the 2 loss MVFC team also has a DII on their schedule. They would effectively have 3 less DI wins in their record.

Totally agree! for the life me I don't understand the little brother syndrome when it comes to potential seeding. With the exception of 2022 we've generally received a favorable seed in relation to SOS and record. There's really of evidence on MVFC bias from the committee, again with the exception of 2022 when we should have been seeded either 2 or 3, not 4.

I'm with you in the past, but the selection committee no longer has or is led by a Gris representative. I'm not sure who is representing the Big Sky this year but I know Haslam ran out of years to be on it and you can't convince me that didn't play a part in some of the questionable seeds the Cats got in the past few years. I think starting this year, we'll see the Cats seed be a little more in line with what most of us are thinking.

I know some of you will say that Haslam had to be unbiased and whatnot but I say that's keeping your head in the clouds. No one in the Cat/Gris rivalry can be truly unbiased. Just my opinion, have at it as you will.
