I'd be more concerned if SDSU could actually get 10 wins. 11 DI wins with an FBS win is still better than 9 DI wins, all FCS.Catprint wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 9:43 pmNot an expert so some clarification. First, assuming SDSU wins are similar to MSU wins in last four games in terms of close ones and blowouts. Second, everything I know about Massey and KPI, at this point in the season, teams don’t usually move ahead of other teams unless the higher ranked team loses. Third, we both have two ranked teams and two unranked teams on the schedule. Finally, I said it was possible not probable. I do believe the committee can use their heads and the 12 D1 wins will mean something. I suppose my bigger concern is a 11-1 Cars team vs 10-2 Jacks team.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 9:11 pmEvening if they do, I'd assume the committee is also allowed to use their brainscatatac wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 8:34 pmThanks, and I don't pretend to know exactly how all the metrics work, but hypothetically if SDSU and MSU both win out, but the remaining SDSU wins are one point squeakers and the Cats blow out all four opponents by 40, including UCD and UM..... I'd have a hard time believing the Cats still land below SDSU in SOS, Massey, KPI, AND ESPN Power Rating.Catsrgrood wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 8:20 pmAccording to Massey, the Cats SSF (strength of schedule with future games factored in) gets up to 24th by the end of the season. Still will likely be the “weakest” SOS of the top 10, but not by a ton. The 24th hardest schedule isn’t exactly a cake walk, especially if the Cats get through it undefeated.catatac wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 6:10 pmAre you sure about this? That doesn't seem right..... but what do I know. I'll await the detailed breakdown. Cats at 12-0 would have several high quality, top ten wins, in addition to the FBS win.Catprint wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 5:53 pmNot sure what this means? All of our opponents - past and future can’t all continue to win because a) some of them play each other ( um, Davis, sac state, etc) and b) some are horrible ( Utah tech , UNC) and will continue losing.94VegasCat wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 3:46 pmIf all of our opponents past and future continue to win and we don’t lose, we’ll be top 2
I think it is now possible, although not probable, the Cats could end up #3 based on these newest criteria. More on that later but we will definitely have a lower SOS, Massey rating, KPI and ESPN power rating than SDSU if we both win out. The only items in the list we will have over SDSU is record and # of D1 wins (12 vs 9) which is something of value. Sure would be a travesty. Let’s see what comes out this week on the top 10.

Re: October 30th Committee ranking
Well no duh buddy. Clearly our future opponents and MSU can’t both win out. Think it through though. If everyone of our upcoming opponents wins all of their games EXCEPT against the CATS (are ya following along now) it should boost our SOS. hopefully one of the DSUs trip too.Catprint wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 5:53 pmNot sure what this means? Re: October 30th Committee ranking
I'll be very surprised if the rankings released at noon today are anything other than:
1) NDSU
2) MSU
3) SDSU
If all those teams continue to win, I'll be very surprised if those aren't also the final seeds when the bracket is released. That said, I also think there's a higher than 50/50 chance that at least one of those top three loses a game or two in November which will either provide a lot more clarity or introduce way more uncertainty depending on how the losses stack up. Should be fun and we should definitely appreciate being a fans of a team that has already all but clinched a playoff bid before Halloween!

Re: October 30th Committee ranking
Massey does have a ranking for future strength of schedule. I'm not sure if that is a component in his current week ranking. Based on a snapshot right of how the landscape looks right now, MSU's future strength of schedule climbs to 24 (51 right now). If we win out, hopefully it's enough to lock in a top 2.catatac wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 6:10 pmAre you sure about this? That doesn't seem right..... but what do I know. Too big is the main problem. Not very many ranked matchups this year.

Pretty dang close to Stats poll. Difference:
(Team, Stats rank, committee rank)
Davis, 4, 5
USD, 5, 4
Idaho, 10, 7
Mercer, 12, 8
gris, 8, 10
Tarleton, 7, NR
(Team, Stats rank, committee rank)
Davis, 4, 5
USD, 5, 4
Idaho, 10, 7
Mercer, 12, 8
gris, 8, 10
Tarleton, 7, NR

Re: October 30th Committee ranking
Obviously it won't happen because most of these teams play one of the others but with this ranking the bracket would have Montana would go to Idaho after its first round game and the winner would play MSU in the Quarters. I'd be ok with that.

Re: October 30th Committee ranking
Really interesting to see how this plays out down the stretch. Very curious to see the UM-UCD game, that'll tell a lot. Griz win? Maybe they actually did figure some defensive things out, or their O is good enough to make them competitive with some of the top teams. UCD blows them out in Wa-Griz, maybe they deserve a spot at the contender's table. Does anyone know if USD and NDSU play? That would be a huge game that would tell us a lot about who the real contenders are too.

How about UND and Weber, since they both beat the Griz? kidding, I know it doesn't work that way - but still.
