MSU WBB vs Troy
Women play in the Brick tonight @ 7:00pm. This is likely the 1st real test of the team this year. Troy is a good program, Chandra Rigby is in her 13th season, with a great record. Last year this team ran into the Fab 4 in the WNIT. MSU will be playing a team of 12 women, 7 of which are Seniors and 5 of which are juniors. Guards (7) avg 5'9", Forwards (4) avg 6'3" and the lone center listed is 6'4". So they have good height!
Should be a hell of a game to watch as I think with we have some great skill players, and with our depth we should be able to tire them out. Looking forward to a good game.

Good scout. Thanks. Good job by Coach to set up a game like this. The preseason is well set up to make us better. Looking forward to this one. Our freshman need to be sophomores already.CatRowdy wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 10:17 amWomen play in the Brick tonight @ 7:00pm. This is likely the 1st real test of the team this year. Re: MSU WBB vs Troy
Troy had 33 Team fouls in their 1st game VS Buffalo, and still only lost by 2. This will be their 2nd of 8 strait road games. All 12 players on the Roster played in their 1st game.CatRowdy wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 10:17 amWomen play in the Brick tonight @ 7:00pm. This is likely the 1st real test of the team this year. Edit: Also, 9 of the 12 roster players are new to Troy this year.

You know, I was gonna back and look that up; with the transfer portal as it is; seeing juniors and seniors on a team by no means indicates they started as freshman. Good info!

Re: MSU WBB vs Troy
So who starts tonight. We've seen Dykstra, Martin, Morales, Phillip, Robbins and then the same four and Johnson subbing for Robbins. Is there someone else who might get the 5th slot to see how she flows with the firm four? The way coach plays the preseason I just can't tell if she has decided on a starting five.

Bunyan started against Carroll, then Johnson against Chad. Robbins has not been a starter so far.CatRowdy wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 4:05 pmSo who starts tonight. Cats win! 73-63 is the final with Ella Johnson and Marah Dykstra both scoring 14 to lead the team. Didn't get a chance to watch much of the game but looks like MSU had a lot of balance on offense...much needed after last year's frequent struggles to put up points.

We are very solid and very deep. This team has potential to be one the best in years, and that is saying a lot! I was really blown away by how talented the younger players are. The future is very bright on the women’s side!

Must be redshirting some. Chirrick is good. Physical, quick, good rebounder, forced a few shots but impressed. Who was on bench with sunglasses. Concussion?

That is awesome to see Ella scoring that many points.

Re: MSU WBB vs Troy
Really nice win. Troy is a good program. They were very physical. Marah Dykstra had her hands full inside, but held her own. I'm telling y'all Taylee Chirrick is a difference maker. Not a scorer, but defense, rebounds, tenacity and toughness. When she goes and gets a rebound it's hers! I am really excited about this player.
Seemed like every time Troy was seizing the momentum, Ella Johnson would hit a three and put the fire out. I've never seen her take so many threes-let alone hit them. I remember her hitting a big three against the griz last season, but hits were few and far between. Great night for Ella.
As mentioned, this team just rolls athlete after athlete off the bench. Even Brooke Berry, who won't play huge minutes, came in just before halftime and hit a nice jumper and fed Dykstra nice assist at the buzzer. KJ and Esme Morales didn't have great nights shooting it, but KJ did hit a dagger 3 to put it away and Esme handled their very quick defenders pretty well. On nights when those two are hitting-look out!

That was Teagan Erickson. She was injured in the Chadron State game.
This was a fun game to watch. This team is so deep and loves to push the ball.

Good recap. Would add that Picton's efforts before halftime were admirable too. Feel bad for her as it appears she has fallen down the depth chart due to an embarrassment of riches on this team. Also, the return of a healthy Deden will go a long way in offsetting a team like Troy's bigs.BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 10:56 pmReally nice win. Troy is a good program. Re: MSU WBB vs Troy
Troy is a strong team and was predicted to finish second in the Sunbelt Conference, even receiving multiple votes to win it all. As is typical, Binford has some adjustments to make early in the season, but this group has the potential to be outstanding. If Deden, who was playing at a conference Player of the Week level before her injury, and Jannsan—an exceptional player with the rare ability to post up or shoot from three at 6'3"—are back, they’ll bring even more firepower to the lineup.

Re: MSU WBB vs Troy
Doesn't appear as anyone will redshirt this year. They have 15 roster spots. 3 players are still coming back from injury (leaving the 12 that played VS Chadron) and one other player was out last night VS Troy. So all 11 that suited up played, and expect all 15 to play this year.

Re: MSU WBB vs Troy
I hope we get to see the team at some point with all 15 players healthy and available! They could almost play like a hockey team with a first, second, and third line that could rotate in and out. I say that somewhat facetiously but they may in fact have enough talent and depth on the team to pull it off if they tried it!SACCAT wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 8:07 amDoesn't appear as anyone will redshirt this year. Re: MSU WBB vs Troy
I was at the game and I have to say that this team is a joy to watch. They play really fast paced, up and down the floor full stop. Great tenacity on defense. Excellent passing. In the past I have groaned when Coach Bin started subbing but last night it was just one outstanding young player after another filling in. No dropoffs. A very deep and talented roster. Troy is a tough team. They had some post players that we just couldn't handle. Troy out rebounded us. Our free throw shooting was below par but I don't expect that to continue. Really, the difference in the game was 3 point shooting. We had 11 and I think they only had one because they were so effective with getting shots close in. Also, our tough defense caused a bunch of turnovers. What a treat to have such a deep and talented team. It's going to be a fun season. Morales is an outstanding ball handler, passer and she can hit from three. Love all the newcomers. Way to recruit Coach Bin!

Re: MSU WBB vs Troy
Spark plugs. Energy off the bench. The eye picks them out, but the numbers bear them out. The Player Plus/Minus Summary, buried on pg. 25 of the Official Stats, includes not just the typical Points Diff(erential), but also Mins, Score, Points per Min, Assists, Rebounds, Steals and Turnovers.
The team scored over 2.00 points per minute with three different players on the court: Chirrick (2.06), Picton (2.34), Berry (3.56). Taylee Chirrick’s performance was admirable for a player in the rotation (17:00 minutes). So the Spark of the Game award is shared by Natalie Picton (7:15 min, 17-11 point differential) and Brooke Berry (1:58 min, 7-1 point differential). In a 10-point game, those bursts were very essential in increasing the lead. Good substitutions by Coach, good execution by the players.
