That's the kind of job I think Vigen would be interested in taking. A historically strong program that isn't going to be a massive rebuilding project, and a salary increase (their last coach was at $1.5 million plus incentives) that would be very hard to turn down. It'll be interesting to see how they handle their coaching search if MSU is playing into January as we hope they will be!CodyCat wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2024 2:44 pmhttps://footballscoop.com/news/coaching ... ng-arrives
At Fresno State, interim head coach Tim Skipper has the Bulldogs bowl eligible after knocking off previous conference division-leader Colorado State. Skipper earned a $50,000 bowl bonus per USA Today’s Steve Berkowitz for the win, and he’s certainly in contention for the full-time role.
But sources tell FootballScoop that Montana State head coach Brent Vigen is a strong candidate for the post; Vigen currently has Montana State with the top overall seed in the 2024 FCS Playoffs.

Man, watching the Stanford QB melt down at the end of their game with San Jose makes me appreciate Tommy more and more and more.

It was just mentioned on the broadcast of the BYU game that Jay Hill is expected to receive an offer for Utah State's coaching vacancy this coming week, so cross that one off the Vigen list.

Jay Hill is overrated. That is a bad hire for a Pac 8 school.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2024 10:52 pmIt was just mentioned on the broadcast of the BYU game that Jay Hill is expected to receive an offer for Utah State's coaching vacancy this coming week, so cross that one off the Vigen list.

Yeah, he inherited a total mess at Weber after Jody Sears was there. And now Weber is a total mess again after he left. Not sure how he can possibly be described as overrated as a head coach. He wouldn't be a "splashy" hire for USU but I think he'd win there.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 8:41 amOverrated? Hey I know there are some Oregon Ducks fans here. Watched the game vs Washington last night. Please tell me they are super senior laden and will be in full rebuild next season when the Cats play them?

Ducks will be breaking in a new QB at least (though so will we) and the defense loses quite a bit, though lots of 4+ start guys waiting in the wings. Hoping for the first ever matchup of 2 teams coming off of national championships!Prodigal Cat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 9:44 amHey I know there are some Oregon Ducks fans here. I used to think Jay Hill was a premier coach in the Big Sky, then I got to watch him coach against the Cats. He was always outcoached by our guys. His team regularly underperformed. I didn’t go back and look, but has Weber ever made a semifinals game? I am not ever sure they were ever regular quarterfinal participants.MSU01 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 8:56 amYeah, he inherited a total mess at Weber after Jody Sears was there. Jay Hill's Weber teams went undefeated against Jeff Choate's MSU teams. Vigen beat Hill a few times but those were all competitive games and at least one should have been a Weber win if not for the long snapper meltdown.Cataholic wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 11:03 amI used to think Jay Hill was a premier coach in the Big Sky, then I got to watch him coach against the Cats. They are swimming in cash now, and if they win the national championship, they’ll have more money than they know what to do it. I would imagine they will be able to pay for pretty much any big time transfer who may be out there.Prodigal Cat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 9:44 amHey I know there are some Oregon Ducks fans here. Re: Random stuff 2024
The fact that Weber was nationally competitive is a credit to Jay Hill. His teams always played to the max of their talents. Look at where they were before and after Hill. I don’t think he got out coached, our teams just generally had more talent under Vigen, and even then, those were very close games. Hill went 3-3 against MSU, never lost to Choate. I guess I don’t see how they underperformed, unless you’re blaming the long snapper mishaps on him. Furthermore, he’s completely turned around BYU’s defense.Cataholic wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 11:03 amI used to think Jay Hill was a premier coach in the Big Sky, then I got to watch him coach against the Cats. People love on Choate here, myself included, but Jay Hill is a better coach than Choate.
